You are no longer the target audience! How does that make you feel /v/?

Every game where I'm not the target audience flops and studio gets broke. So yeah.
>>739927434Kinda annoyed if it was an ip i used to like but i will just move on. I hope they can find their target audience before going bankrupt
>>739927434I'm a gen y niggeraka the only generation that actually buys gamesI AM the target audienceyou can keep your gachaslop zoomzoom
>>739927434there's like a whole ocean of AA and indie games where you and I are, in fact, still the target audience
>>739927434I play games that appeal to me and when they stop doing that I play different games.
>>739927434I'll just keep buying to be honest. Women and minorities need my money, and they deserve it to.
AAA used to mean high budget action gamenow it means woke movie gameindie and AA golden age
I don't play corporate woke activist games
>>739927434It's like being free. When you're in the "target audience" everyone - especially your peers - are trying to pull you into something.Their interests, their opinions, whatever the market says you need to like, everything is depicting people in your age range, everyone and everything wants your soul.Then.Slowly.That attention grubbing bullshit fades away. At first, once you notice it, it feels like you've fallen out of the back of a truck and you're watching the vehicle speed away and leave you stranded. Then you look around and it doesn't look so empty anymore. That truck was blurring the countryside to bring you somewhere and now you're wherever you wanna be.
>>739927434makes me feel like that property is about to flop
>>739927434I feel as though I was only the target audience when I was a teenager because the age in which pop culture says I ought to be the target audience everything was subverted to score political culture war points. If I've grown out of that then I don't know whether I should be happy because it might mean I'll find good content again or bitter because I was supposed to have had content made to my tastes if not for politics.
>>739929045I dunno, are there that many good new AA games coming out?
>>739927434*bombards your studio with 'go broke' waves from my mind*
>>739927434That's not true.I am the mythical "wider audience". They are marketing to me specifically (I pirate it anyways and only buy 3 dollar school projects on steam)
>>739927434So why are they flopping then?
>>739929075You don't have to play them, just buy them.
>>739928894/thread
>>739929210Because consumers are no longer the target audience.
>>739927434Just play games where you are the target audience, like starfield.
>>739927434Kinda wish they'd not change up IPs and franchises that had me as a target audience and instead made their own stuff, but they've increasingly started doing so, I think.Either way fine by me, with the way the economy is going it's good that I don't feel like I need to buy every other game that comes out like in the golden age of vidya.
>>739927434I've been the target audience plenty of times recently desu
>>739927434Feels good. Can finally go back to literature and quit this childish self-destructive hobby.
>>739927434Ambivalent.Games have no target audience anymore, because games are not the product being sold. The illusion of a purchasing audience is being sold to investors and governments. In a sense I will always be the target audience if I take part in discourse. The people as a whole stopped being the target audience due to a century of illegal copyright extensions.>>739929045AAA basically died after 2008-2011 when retarded investors stuck their bailout money into anything that seemed like the next big thing, ruined it until it wasn't the next big thing and moved on.AA does not exist, because no one wants to deal with modern publishers that are more cautionary tales than they are publishing entities.
>>739927434>original target audience: people that like videogames>new target audience: people that... dont... like videogames?am i supposed to not be amused? i've still got plenty of videogames made for (me), i'll never run out while the "industry" is death spiraling.
Good, I actively feel disgust at what zoomers consume. Genuine physical disgust.
I was never totally the target audience, most of my favorite games are uncommon/have fairy few equivalents, and a lot of games I'd like have never been made.
>>739929045>Indie is a metric of budget
>>739927434The "target audience" always meant "people not already interested", as the idea is the people who like something will probably keep buying whatever you're selling, even if they have to hurt old fans in order to capitalize on new ones. The trick is to stop playing a franchise when they've alienated you instead of keep playing, that way you become part of the new target audience. This sometimes happens on a large scale, like when a studio completely alienates their fans and is forced to put something out that's a "return to form" in order to win the old fans back.
>>739929727the word you're looking for is normalfags, not zoomers
>>739927434Depends on which target audience you're talking about. Anything with spaceships and I'm probably still the target audience and worst case we still have like 30 years of good space games to play.
>>739929156Space Engineers 2 comes out later this year. Hell Let Loose Vietnam coming out in 3 weeks as well. Two off the top of my head.
>>739927434I don't feel like I've ever been the target audience so nothing changes. I continue enjoying my games while the world around me collapses.
>>739929816Name one AAA indie game
>>739929283This. Most shit in the world right now has completely priced themselves out of their own market. This is partially due to corporate greed but mostly caused by a runaway real-estate market. We're on economic hard times during a lot of political turmoil, high unemployment and a lot of uncertainty where and how much AI is going to fuck everything up, so people are being tight-fisted with their money. No-one wants to chance is on $80~$120 for a AAA title that looks like shit, plays like shit, is 3 hours long and is full of woke messaging. People would rather stick to the same games they were playing 10 years ago or anything that's free-to-play or under $20 on a sale.
>>739930468Very antisemitic post
>>739927434non-buynary
>>739930456DeadlockValve fits every condition to be considered indie (no shareholders, no parent company, self-publishes.)
>>739927434i dont care, i stopped consuming modern entertainment completely like 5 years agothere's more than enough shit to last me for multiple lifetimes
>>739927434Autistic people were never the target audience so I don’t care
>>739927434Like I don't have to buy anything and I already have enough stuff to enjoy for the foreseeable future.
>>739927434Like they're going to blame me when their shit fails anyways.
>>739927434Fine by me. I'll simply not buy your game then.
>>739930325Is HLL Vietnam a new game or an expansion?
>>739936147new game but i just jumped over to the thread thats up right now cuz my buddies and I were getting excited for it, and turns out its got performance issues and bugs at least in the early access.so rip. they cant even copy paste the same game and slap Fortunate Son on it and not fuck it up.
>>739927434I'm perfectly fine with that. But is the industry?
>>739927434Imagine not making games for gamers
>>739930148t. zoomer
>>739928185it's uncanny. also they made enough games back when i was explicitly the audience that i have enough of them on my shelf that i'm set for life anyway. just got done with XBC1, shit was so cash.
i have money and pecunia non olet, so if i'm not the audience it's not a market economy
>>739929045Name a single AA game released in the last 10 years. And indies are just as much cancer as AAA. Derivative or low effort slop trying to appeal to nostalgia and also filled with wokeshit with devs that are just as insuferable and entitled and hate their audience. Realistically the only way to still enjoy this hobby is to take the retro pill and only play older games with the occasional Nier Automata and Elden Ring or whatever big game from a series or studio you deeply care about that catches your eye. But 99% of what you play should be from before 2010.
>>739929094beautifully put. now i'm bewildered whenever i hear someone younger at work being all stressed out over not being able to keep up with the latest fads anymore. or worse - those poor kids crying that their parents can't get them the new farting labubu or whatever.
It's pretty good since 10 year old games are cheap, look and play better and I get a free weekly sitcom called "modern audience".
>>739938114>AAisn't that most weeb games with any sort of marketing budget? i mean from Capcom and such, not like Spike Chunsoft or Idea Factory.
>>739927434then why am i the CIA target audience?
>>739930325>autistic friendslop and even more autistic milsim larpTry again.
>>739927434I haven't been the target audience since like 2005.
>>739938114Spacemarine 2
>>739938207>Space Engineers>Friendslop
>>739930325>Hell Let Loose Vietnam coming out in 3 weeks as well.Oh dear, i'm sure it'll totally be fine and not a turd
>>739938181That's kusoge, which is a genre on it's own, and the budgets for the games are more like a pair of scissors and a safety pin with most of it going into character design, lewd CG and VA to attract the otaku/weeb market.I remember the publisher being happy with Atelier games sellling 50k back when it was a PS3 exclusive and still niche. That's the kind of budget that would make modern western indie devs shit and piss their pants and lash out on Blsky over gamedev being too hard
>>739927434They are all going bankrupt so I'm assuming they failed to find another audience. I'll play the indie games that are for me and then I'll play the AAA games that come crawling back once 80% of them are dead.
>>739927434>i stop being the target audience>suddenly everyone is getting laid off and studios are being shut down
>>739937470Hope HLL doesn't have a drop in players
>>739927434That's just fine, I'm not a cattle who constantly needs new product to consumeI've been saving tons of money
>>739928274>actually buys gamesthis is not the own you think it is lol
>>739930456Mixtape. Buying perpetual music licences ain't cheap.
>>739938114>Name a single AA game released in the last 10 years. PalworldExpedition 33
>>739927434i 100% am the target audience for factorio.im autistic.
>>739938301i dunno, spengies IS better with friends, even just having someone you can show off your ship to (then immediately crash it into the ground near their base) adds a whole lot to the game.
>>739938207>TISTIC TISTIC TRANNY TISTICHave fun with your stronk womyn and LGBT niggers.
>>739927434Liberated. I have a backlog of literally thousands of games to enjoy, and I get to watch my enemies fail spectacularly to the tune of hundreds of millions of US dollars.
