Any chance the proton pack laser weapon some enemies use is obtainable? I wanna bust some ghosts.
>>
>>739949894
I like the chain damage one, when you have the flailing upgrade it's really easy to turn a missed strike into a low damage hit that keeps the combo going, and the hold to shock upgrade counts as multiple hits, only realized how strong it is for the combo trinket when I tried another weapon. You need like 3 hits to increase your multiplier, but a single shock does three hits so you keep climbing up with each strike with the whip.

It's not even comparable. TOR had millions of players in its first month; this has like 10k or something.
>>
>>739950375
You have to go west in town and then up under the train station. Get past the four vials block and you will tunnel there.
>>739950340
Purchase/find all the trinket slots and fill them with every Beastium Stone. Then you get an entirely new moveset and your health vials change you like Jekyll and Hyde. You get a free airdash and combo multiplier. It's a little too slow and big for tight platforming though. It's best for bosses or bone farming.
>>
>>739950502
There are other ways to that area. I guess some other subweapon could work too.

>go south, save Rhena
>go northeast, find the drill sidearm
>buy the upgrade that lets you keep your sidearm after you die
Congrats, you are now enjoying the game.
It's good advice. Another upgrade to the base that lets you refill sideweapons is also recommended. There's a very easy way to farm bones once you unlock the mirror world, you just go in the big mirror in Lionel's manor and can quickly kill the big enemy there for 400 bones, there's a save point right outside the mirror for easy respawning. I recommend also grinding to get sideweapon level 5, which lets you purchase the dual sideweapon permit in the West side of town, so you can have the drill and the mist potion permanently.

Feels like everyone has one or two (different) things that bug them but overall it's good.
Not sure why it's getting so many poor reviews for difficulty when Silksong was genuinely harder. I think people are reacting more to the strict sprites and hitboxes compared to the fluid presentation of Silksong.
It's also apparently been selected as the next shitposting target by online right wingers too poor to actually buy games. There's another thread on /v/ they're currently contained to thankfully.

Just starting out. How should I spend my bones first?
>level ups?
These get expensive quick after the first one. However it seems like these may not be as important yet compared to
>Items at the shop in town, including Health Vials and Sparks.
I just fucking realized that some doors you can't open in town need 2 'souls' or whatever are probably ones you need sparks to get in, yes? However the woman next to the giant fucking shopkeeper tells you things get more expensive each time you buy, so I figure its best to buy either Vials or Souls first? Or is it only that each thing gets more expensive each time (ie you buy a soul, the next one costs more but vials or health total or ammo are no more expensive)
>Keys for sale for souls
There's a vendor who sells keys - I've so far been using those I found to unlock shit, but I see there are some with multiple gear key totals on a given lock so I assume I need more
>randomly give bones to the paupers in town asking for gibs, plus the red fag under the train station who tries to eat you and then asks for 1000 bones to get his body back after you beat him down
I'm sure this is going to be important somewhere, right? Some of these guys aasking for 100 are probably important for something but others are not?
>The guy who talks about a dual sidearm permit, but says you need to level up first
I expect this will be expensive down the road.

Aside from this, I'm assuming that the graveyard or whatever it is to the East of town is the first/easiest dungeon (the one mentioned in newspaper vol 1). Outside that way, there's a dude who has you junk a haunted car - but I can never do so to get under 30 seconds with my default whip . Is there a trick to it or do I just need to level up/use better gear later on or something else?

I think early game you are better of spending your bones on levels and stuff at the guild hall (area to the right of the town front entrance. For keys you can find a lot of them by exploring. For the dual sidearms, just keep leveling sidearm power and check back later.

would totally just let shit level up, and save your bonestone for shops. You start getting bones way faster as you start exploring stronger areas.
>shops
the weapons all get more expensive with each item you buy but I'm pretty sure on the provisioner it's only per item. Pretty much all those items are good, the spark is important but I think the trinket bags are the most valuable thing there.
>sparks
Keep in mind on the spark doors if you die inside before you leave you're fucked out of your bones
>keys
The guy on the left tells you how many keys there are left to find in the world, there's lots of them and lots of locks, I would just buy one whenever you feel like you want to check something out right away.

Mina's great, probably my GOTY, but there are some issues:
>Just give us the three starting weapons to choose from in the chest for free, or at least when you unlock the Blacksmith. I picked the whip to start out but I guaranfuckingtee you that the Steam reviews would be above 90% positive if they could switch off the Hammer.

I really hope I’m the first to have thought of this. The bones actually are green in this game, and there’s even bonestone dust.

Also I don’t know why people at this game’s hard. There’s a steep curve at the start but once you buy stuff you can rip shit up no problem. I beat the big bosses first try except on the Carver guy. Halfway through and deep in some mirror world that I’m not sure is a bonus dungeon or what.

So trinket bags are what you should do first? Not vials or sparks? At the moment I have a single trinket (shoes that give traction on ice or other surfaces) besides the a bonus "beat the kraken" bracelet that I dont' think I want to use. I'm guessing I'll come across more quickly.

Also you say weapons all gert more expensive with each item you buy. Do you mean other weapons you buy, or do items at the other stores also jack weapon prices?

>Spark doors
Even on the ones in town you're likely to die? That's pretty fucking devious to have doors that you "cant get back in" if you lost a spark meaning you can't recover anything lost inside. Outside of late game challenge shit I don't expect anything to work that way in the fucking starter town.

>Car crushing place
head east out of town and then go a screen north and then one screen west, its really close. Yeah the puzzle difficulty is all over the place, some are legitimately clever and some others are just ridiculous.

It took me a while to figure out that you could move the puff plants by burrowing under them, mostly because I thought the bones under them were their roots. Annoyingly this is needed in the lategame to progress, and though the game is normally really good about showing you the finer points of various elements this one is quite missable.

It's like Souls, use money (bones) to raise the stat, cost gets higher as it levels up. If you can raise a stat or turn them into bonestone it'll pop the menu up automatically, but if you want to focus on a single stat you can just turn it into bonestone or skip the level-up altogether.

>>739961387
If you die without any sparks (the blue orbs on your healthbar) you lose all of your currently held bones, bonestone is never lost and can be withdrawn in your den.
>>
>>739951440

>>739961387
That's cash you can't lose after dying sparkless. You can convert it to cash at checkpoints. This is only good for boning (leveling) up, as you can pay anywhere from the bank.

However, you can't convert cash into your bank outside of choosing the option on leveling. So finding those bank only diamonds is rather useful.

>>739961387
it's for when you'd rather save for a more expensive but preferable upgrade instead of being forced to use your bones

I did everything up to that point and it was the third try for me. It's not that it's punishing its that if you face it before you are ready you will get the shit kicked out of you. If you were maxed out then that's why you didn't have a problem. I'm guessing you also have the quick vial trinket on which is pretty much mandatory for the phase where they split into two. But I know for a fact that it is going to filter a lot of people.

The only time I went out of my do some was back in the Xbox Live Arcade days, where you could unlock unique avatars and not!mii costumes to dap up your dude. But 99.9% of the time they literally add nothing to the game.

It's just a pop-up. And psychological tic, to maybe do a challenge run if the people behind them were creative enough, and spent more than 5 minutes of dev time creating them.

A challenge you could just do without the pop-up to scratch your brain itch, you know.

>>739965634
I like doing them because 1) I want to engage with what the devs thought was worthwhile and 2) It’s an ego thing, I want to be good at games. My favorite cheevos are the ones that are like puzzles. If one is “Bounce off ten enemies”, I have to think about where I could do something like that. Least favorite are progression based like “beat chapter 3” or “Kill/Collect this many (blank)”, feels like padding. The story progression ones I guess I get because it gives a glance at just how many people bother to keep playing.

With Mina, I doubt I’m getting more than half of these, some of these are missable and get persnickety (maintain a combo at max for 10 seconds in a boss fight, etc).
>>
>>739965774
>You don't even lose your money unless you die twice in a row?
Up to 4 times in a row, once you collect more sparks.

Honestly the game just gets easier and easier the higher level you get. It only felt "dark souls"-like for the first few hours, then once I got more health upgrades and leveled up attack/defense a bunch, I felt like I could just bruteforce my way through most enemies and even bosses.
>>
>>739965774
Then you eventually buy your second spark and it becomes really easy to keep your money on you

That's the alternate entrance/shortcut, you can't access that area through the room you're in. You're meant to go through it from the other side to unlock it as a shortcut / alternate path between those two zones.

I beat Mina! Still want to 100% but I'll do that later.
That was really fun. I would say similar to Souls or a lot of different metroidvanias, the first playthrough is the hardest because you don't know where anything is and you're still trying to figure out where to go and your moveset and such. The 2nd playthrough will be much smoother since you know where things are and you can start mapping out your route and which upgrades to prioritize. All of my major complains (no map, no way to keep sidearms, Mina feeling sluggish) were fixed with various trinkets and upgrades.
Combat takes some getting used to and feels much better once you have more health and trinkets. Tunneling Codex is the #1 best trinket for improving game feel and honestly should just be part of Mina's default kit. I mained hammer + drill sidearms and that covered me well for most of the game. The weapons allow for a good variety of playstyles once you get comfortable. Daggers and Hammer are probably the best for being aggressive. Daggers become way better once you upgrade them. There's a big focus on using digs to pop in and out of range. Enemy attacks are telegraphed and easy to memorize. Some times it is just best to play keep away and watch what the enemy does when fighting a new one.
Biggest complaint would be exploration can feel obtuse at times. Stuff like needing a specific sidearm to solve a puzzle when it isn't nearby. Also, the difficulty curve could be smoother. The early game feels annoying hard because of how weak you are.
Very fun game. I'll call it and come back later for new game plus and 100%

Ok, I cleared the game, and I suspect there is going to be more to it, just from the 3 spark door in the crypt and the general tone of the ending.
But I don't really understand what the big problem was.
Like, unless I'm mistaken the world was already full of monsters and bullshit before the towers.
yeah touching the glowy orbs is bad for your health.
put up a railing.

Also the sparks themselves feel like an afterthought.
there are a couple of doors that need sparks to pass through, but the mechanic is barely used. Unless I missed a bunch of challenges. which is possible.

Also if you find one of those item spheres, I think they cycles through every item you've picked up before. So it doesn't hurt to keep in mind where one is and remember a route to get to it. Usually there is one before the boss room, and a lot of shortcuts from the boss room to the entry way are 2 ways.

I really love how the Bayou area made me completely switch my trinket loadout. Situationally useful gear is always a lot more fun than just minmaxing your build and never thinking about it again.
The Souls comparisons are obvious and will be made at nauseaum, but I think the most important one that is always worth pointing out is that it's MUCH more Dark Souls 1 than any other. At this point Souls has been a boss rush series for longer than it was an adventure series, so I'd be quicker to recommend this game for people who no longer enjoy Souls than to people who think it's at its peak right now.

I just waited until he trapped himself on the rocks and then hit him until he died
>>
What is the new peak on Steam?
>>
Honestly I died to the lion guard in the northwest corner more than any boss in the game. Having to fight that fucker in an enclosed space was a pain in the dick. Even the final boss, I beat first try.
>>
>>739967525
Nice, just delivered the froggy, will go there now then.
>>
I'd probably be stern like Mina too, almost everyone she meets is an asshole or suicidal.

From what? Another million of dated, cheap retro inspired nostalgic cashgrabs?
>style
What style? At least shovel knight had some style, this game has nothing. Looks good during cutscenes and then terrible during gameplay. The pixels are giant, inconsistent and look terrible on a big screen, some enemies are strangely detailed and it would never work on a GBA. What is this style called? Laziness? Couldn't they get inspired by a decently looking Zelda game.

there's a bar under the number that fills as you go

I did this with the healing dash trinket, was a pain in the ass. Maybe there was a better way.
>>
Is there a super secret in the game? Something you have to do something insane to see?
>>
>>739967806
The one in the garden? That's literally a final dungeon enemy. I just dodged him.

Actual madman.

Yeah, that fucker. There's a weapon upgrade in the chest behind him so I banged my head against the wall until I killed him.

burrow into the ground creating a groove near where the lava flow is, the lava will flow into the groove. when he stands on lava he turns red and takes a lot more damage.
>>
>>739968839
It turns out the overlap between overhead Zelda fans and soulslike fans is much narrower than Yacht Club was betting on.

It's not even THAT hard but so many people are going into it just expecting something like Link's Awakening and immediately leaving on playing it.
>>
>>739968839
Because all the negative reviews are either:
>wahh too hard
or
>wahh muh cheevos
>>
>>739968839
They don't call her Mina the Filterer for nothing
>>
>>739969013
That makes sense, I was just too stupid to realize that. I knew I did something wrong when he was taking Jack shit for damage, but being able to outrange him meant it didn't really matter.
>>
>gun is actually just how you get link's sword
well okay

Wait how the fuck do I pay the train if I'm forced to spend my bones and can't use my stash to pay?

caring about cheevos is such a 2000s-2010s thing it does feel bizarre that sony managed to cultivate people who actually care about the number of platinum trophy jpegs on their profile

the shield is easily the buggiest weapon, it just does insane contact damage basically at random
>>
Might do daggers or hammer mostly next playthrough, both seem fun but I've been mostly stuck with the whip and blaster. Shield seems like you'd need more playthroughs to get the actual attack timings.

anon, look at his heath bar and the damage numbers

Thinking of changing weapons from the whip just because it feels weird that neither Mina nor the enemy moves back on hit.
>>
>>739969584
that's specifically why I like it
>>
>>739969584
Funny enough that's why I like how the melee mode for the blaster feels. Plus it helps you eventually move away from the enemy and fire away from a distance.

For whatever reason for the train specifically I had to manually cash out using the machine in the Underlab, there was no prompt to pay with dust on the train till and pressing Y anyway didn't work either. There are labs near all train stations anyway, but yeah.
