I kind of wish the game took more from Link's Awakening, but I also get not wanting to repeat the "open the menu and swap your items until you get through the dungeon" type of gameplay. I also think they could add some additional weapons later, just rip off Zelda stuff or something.

Ignore the lying fag that replied to you first.

It's a solid game. Can be very difficult at times (hence the negative reviews) but nothing impossible and people who make it out to be "so hard it's bad" are just bad at the game. Takes about 12 hours to beat, and likely 16 or so to 100%.

Skill issue.
>>
>>739971587
This is the only real complaint about the game that is valid - enemies have all sorts of attacks and movement while you are stuck with your 4 directions (outside of a few exceptions). The enemies are also extremely aggressive, the game would have benefitted from at least some having more passive patterns. Only Mina is locked into "GBA style" gameplay, the rest of the enemies and bosses ignore that completely.

You eventually learn to deal with most things but I think the complaint is still valid.
>>
>>739972065
Honestly I just farmed this area for bones most of the game. You get 450 bones from a 12-15 second clear and thus far it is the fastest bone farm I've found in the game.
>>

I'm doing a max attack 1 level defense and that boss one shot me but i managed to beat him.
>>
>>739972258
tedium isn't skill
having to go to a specific place and get a specific sub-weapon just to go all the way back to where you were and use that subweapon to progress, is tedious playtime-padding
>>
>>739972258
What "skill", moron? Writing down their location in case you need something specific? Running back to them when you need them? That's skill issue on the dev's part.
>>
>>739972260
there is a trinket that lets you move really fast after attacking. I think a lot of the game complaints and outdated beliefs are completely solved by the trinkets and all the myriad hidden shit the game have lol

Like for real, the game hides so many things, you think you will need a upgrade or something later to get, but NO, you absolutely fucking don't

It'd probably be something like Pseudoregalia but with actual content and not just platforming. Don't see why not, that'd work for Mina 2.
>>
>>739970753
I beat it yesterday and I don't think it's worth it, honestly.
The difficulty is shit. No I'm not saying it's "hard", I'm saying it's shit, it's frontloaded at first and then an absolute joke, not as in "it's not hard anymore" but as in "I don't even know what bosses do and I don't care because I can mostly mash buttons", which given the type of game is really a letdown.

The combat is just not fun either, I did steel soul in silksong, I'm fine with hard, I'm fine with punishing, but give me SOMETHING in exchange, there's just nothing in Mina, there's a combat system that sucks that you can help in several ways through trinkets.
The kicker? If you can actually rub a couple of braincells together you can combo trinkets and become retarded strong anyway. Guess what, when you kill everything easy as fuck and and the system incentivizes not dying, then rewards you for it by making you stronger, you basically break the game.

Beyond that the game just has a million different flaws that each fuck the game up a little tiny bit, each a different way, and ultimately make for a mediocre experience.

the spark system is so forgiving that especially once you have more than one you're only really at risk of losing your bones on a boss who absorbs all your sparks and you still can't beat (and even THEN there is a trinket that lets you recover a spark by simply hitting an enemy holding it once)

as usual the difficulty outcry is over nothing, there hasn't been a single difficult enemy, platforming section or boss so far. it's all very forgiving and fun.
much more addicting than i was expecting though, the only Soulslike i played through was DeS and none of the other ones could hold my attention to the end.
i think it's because the movement and exploration are just more fun in this. combat isn't anything special but enemy and stage designs are really good

A 10/10 game needs to be very good (for its time) from perspective of both the common casual audience that rarely plays video games and is looking for something that will easily entertain them on one hand and on the other dedicated fans of its particular genre. The way I like to think about this is to have a 5 point scale for the former audience and a 5 point scale for the other and just add them up.
I personally can't say what should be 5/5 from a casual's perspective since I'm not one and their way of thinking is completely alien to me, but I have a strong suspicion that very few of journos' 10/10 scores are deserved.

IGN's 10/10 is very much a cabal score for their friends over at Yacht Club. Don't get me wrong, Mina is a good game but it has some glaring issues that prevent it from getting that high. I would rate this a 7 for casuals as many will be filtered and 8 for the truly invested / hardcore.

Yacht Club vastly over estimated the audience for people who wanted souls in their Zelda. And to be honest the audience of people interested in top down Zelda in general, that's an aging group since the Zelda fans that started with the 3D games on average don't give a toss about the 2D ones.

>>
Of all the games that try to be like a 2D Zelda, this is the best one in my mind. Too bad it cost ten fuckin million dollars and took six years.

I think my only real gripe about the game is the grinding involved to buy literally everything. It's a game about exploration, I want to FIND, not GRIND. The bone loss has only happened to me like three times, whatever. The difficulty mostly flattens out after the first boss, it doesn't bother me. It's just the grinding. I would love for some sort of mod to come out where instead of Bonestones in chests, it's the upgrades and items instead. The bonestones are fucking worthless after like the first area you explore because soon there are enemies that will give you as much as 100, 200, or even 400 at a time.

From the Steam partner site
>For each game, we roll up all the player spending from the trailing 24 hours, and then add extra weight to spending in the last 3 hours. That extra weighting of the most recent spending helps Steam to more quickly reflect changes, like a popular new release or a game trending upward.

Yeah, that or they just couldn't think of a way to cap everything off. Are sparks good or bad? Was it the towers just malfunctioning on their own or were they being subverted?

We don't find out enough about the past and how all this was developed to know (or care).
>>
Game is cool so far but everything about the sidearms is just annoying to me. Would like it way more if you did not lose them on death and they were just equipable also taking two would be nice so you can have a traversal and combat one since it feels like you have to just take the traversal one or miss a bunch of stuff but that makes the combat less interesting. Oh and having to farm back mp everytime you die sucks balls.

My interpretation is that the Spark of life is basically using the souls of the dead as a power source. This can obviously have an effect on living organisms as well if they come in contact with it.
Mina invented a way to tap into this underground power source thinking it was just oil or something not the fucking River Styx

Mina shows it can kind of be used for good but likely using it constantly eventually corrupts completely regardless of Plasma use. Early onset corruption can be cured by Plasma.
Lionel was obviously an asshole and wanted to use it for absolute power regardless of the consequences to those around him.

Btw, I wonder if they got inspiration from the game Tunic?
>>
>>739990253
Unlikely. This is kinda not an uncommon symbolism cause similar ones come a lot up for environmental symbolism. Like you could argue this isn't that different from Mako for instance.

>>739989769

>>739989340
>and what the fuck was lionfuck planning to do with them anyway? It was never really explained
He genuinely wanted best for his city. He liked being the ruler on top of things, sure, but he's also funding the arts and orphanages and stuff. The entire city loves the guy, and for good reason.
Lionel doesn't give a fuck if hillbillies are turning into monsters since they're not part of his city. The city wouldn't survive if the generators got cut any more than a real city would survive if electricity got permanently cut, so obviously he's on team "it's a brand new technology, we can probably find a fix for it" rather than Thorne's "the Spark Generators and their consequences have been a disaster for the Tenebreous Isles".
>>
>>739990532
he turned himself and his butler into monsters and experimented on people directly to turn them into monsters and merging them together and shit. He was obviously corrupted by it and would have just escalated until everyone was a corrupted monster in his city or not. He wasn't just innocently using it for electricity
>>
>>739990837
But the ending shows that vials can also revert the transformation. They weren't permanently corrupted, just entering their combat forms, and you kill them before they can turn back.
Yes he melted a few people, but by all accounts they were volunteers, and the research worked — that's the reason he has control over the transformations now.
Obviously he sank the ship from the start of the game killing all bar two aboard, the man's not perfect. But his confidence in being able to stabilise things doesn't seem misplaced.

Unironically he did nothing wrong.
>>
>>739991125
Why didn't Mina just build better generators that don't leak their shit everywhere?
Is she dumb?
