How do we save PC gaming from death?

Next week Jensen and Microsoft will announce the push for ARM architecture. We won't have a 60xx series line of cards and other part makers will be dropping it as a result pushing us to prebuilt ARM machines. This is what they want. The death of consumer built/managed PCs.
What can we do or who can we contact to prevent this? Gabe isn't going to save us, the steam machine will be too expensive and flop and Valve is pushing for ARM as well.
I'm scared bros.
>>
let it die. you're gonna have bigger problems when food quintuples in price soon. if you're lucky you'll be able to find someone to buy your pc just so you can afford a few more bags of potatoes.
>>
It's already over. Pc gamers are too complacent and think their current build is going to last them forever when all of their parts have a shelf life. The secondhand part market is just going to be like the retro game market, way overpriced.
>>
Arm will flop and they'll come crawling back, ezpz
>>
>>739970992
You're naive if you think that. Nvidia isn't even reporting their gaming sector numbers anymore because they just don't give a shit about us anymore. They're pitching ARM machines as a "here this is all you need now shut up and stop bothering us" option.

Games in general are dying. If you haven't noticed: Anything that doesn't run on a low-to-mid range smartphone is going to become massively unpopular.

Now
You may say this is the death of PC gaming
But did you see the kind of games that were coming out when PC gaming was 'unpopular' with normalfags? Literal kino directed only by creator-directors.

You're telling me you would rather have open world slop from ubishit instead of games like Duke Nukem, Doom, Age of Empires, the first Fallouts, etc? Because all I hear when I see people complain "GAMING IS DYING LESS NORMALFAGS ARE BUYING AAAAA" is that they WANT to reward the game industry for being trapped in mediocrity, chasing spec goals to make better movies instead of making better GAMES, and never punish them for chasing a trend that was sure to end eventually, anyway. RAM shortage or not.

Don't you want to return to kino that runs on anything? Because some of the best games keep coming out despite the doomposting and no one has ever vocalized why it's a bad thing that the Ubisofts and EA's of the world are dying. I WANT PC to go back to being niche, YOU want PC to go back to being niche. The only people who don't want that are the ones who should be spending their money on consoles anyway IE the faggots that used to get filtered by PC gaming.
>>
>>739972363

Also the deluge of chink parts means that the age of gated hardware is over. Everything is going to become Linux compatible and everyone is going to be running Linux machines and not care at all about NVidia and leather coat man demanding to own the consumer hardware market.
>>
>>739972437
Actually the ability for a console manufacturer to make affordable products is directly related to the ability of consumers to make an affordable PC
That's why when consoles were the cheapest, so were PCs.
>>
>>739972201
Are consoles dead? Even with the price increases the PS5 and Switch 2 are still selling a quarter of a million consoles a week. They kinda seem unaffected by all this even with the prices going up.
>>
>>739972694
They're doing a hell of a lot better than PCs are.

Not true, thoughbeitever. Doom, for instance, was tailor made for the most popular hardware at the time, not enthusiast machines. Almost everyone running an IBM computer had 4MB of RAM and a hard disk because that's what IBM and IBM clones had. Simcity and Rollercoaster tycoon, another game of the era, was made for toasters and had numerous efficiency hacks to make them compatible.

Game designers lost sight of the fact that these old games were good because the GAME part was good, not just the graphics part. The new technology gave way to better ways to make video games, new technology now only gives way to make better movies. Indie devs can now make a fallout game almost entirely with teams of a few people. If you shed most of the AAA game industry who is rightfully suffering for reasons people have been harping on about for years, the PC market is doing better than ever.
>>
>>739972694
They only seem unaffected if you're retarded
It's not a coincidence the two Japanese console manufacturers are coping and hoping big brother America fixes everything soon, so they're eating potential losses by selling consoles at less than current manufacturing costs, which will only hit their bottom line harder when that older stock eventually runs out.
>>
>>739972437
wow i guess consoles don't use RAM, video chips, hard drives, CPUs, etc.

>>739972694
Consoles are the only viable choice if you want to play games right now in terms of price vs reward, but they'll get their turn. The savings only last insofar as the manufacturers are fine with eating losses on the hardware, and that won't last forever.
>>
>>739972862
Nintendo has no problem eating losses when Pokemon can print money for them and make it up.
>>
>>739970493
you have to vote with your wallets.
Stop buying anything that is intrinsically a proponent of DirectX. This means stop buying Nvidia products, stop buying Unreal games, stop buying Microsoft games, stop buying Sony games.
Make yourself aware of what a game is designed with. Make yourself aware of what technologies exist and where they come from.
>raytracing
there is already FOSS real time GI that is more accurate and far more performant than dedicated raytracing methods
>dithering
don't fool yourself
>dlss
you can get fsr4 and afmf globally for free. You don't need specific games to require it
>b-b-but windows
so just stop using it, you don't need to be a brand eco suckler
>>
>>739972526
consoles don't use pc components in their systems though, so the fact that consumer pc parts are going away is not going to affect the console industry
sure it will cost more for them to make consoles but they'll increase the price the customer has to pay
as it currently is consoles are not unaffordable enough to drive the average person away unlike with pcs where an ssd or kit of ram costs more than a console
all that said, this has nothing to do with pc gaming so stop obsessing over consoles

>Stop buying anything that is intrinsically a proponent of DirectX. This means stop buying Nvidia products, stop buying Unreal games, stop buying Microsoft games, stop buying Sony games.
i've been advocating for this, alongside a handful of based gamers, for many many years, nobody listens, everyones a goyslave consoomer, they never cared about the long-term ramifications for rewarding cynical monopolies.

I hate Intel-aviv, but if their next-gen gpu that they were supposedly working on, was a decent upgrade over my 7900xtx, and the drivers were improved, i would have bought it in a second if the price was right, simply to stimulate competition in the gpu-space.

>>
>>739972862
>wow i guess consoles don't use RAM, video chips, hard drives, CPUs, etc.
yes that's correct
because they don't use the same parts we do
their hardware is custom made and they buy it differently than we do. on contract with a deal that they and negotiate on because they're purchasing their hardware in bulk.
us on the other hand, we're buying individual parts separately from part makers who uncharged each of the parts they sell us to make up for product handling. every one of our components is bleeding money out of us. what's worse is when these part makers see we're not buying their parts anymore but data warehouses will buy up their parts in bulk and they get to name the price then all of a sudden these part makers are going to disappear and do business with big tech.
meanwhile consoles are still negotiating for their hardware needs in bulk because they have more power than us.
that's why this is a drastically different situation and world we're talking about. we're talking about consumer level pc components.
>>
>>739973318
They do use the same parts though

NTA but farms have been getting hit hard as an externality of the middle east war. Farms rely a ton on gas for their production from planting, harvesting, and shipping. Beyond that, they also ship in fertilizers, which have also spiked in costs.
Beyond that, anything that comes in a plastic packaging is also going to see an increase in costs, because plastic is made of petrochemicals which comes from oil.
It will not be a reckoning that comes immediately, but it will come.

It's probably for the best pc goes back to a lesser, niche userbase. Back when /v/ convinced me to join the master race I thought being unified on one platform would be for the best but honestly without the consoles competing against each other gaming has stagnated severely and I think it's because the everyone merged into PC briefly. Thankfully it sounds like both Sony and Xbox's new heads are backing out of pc in favor of exclusives, so I think between PC gaming getting priced out of everyone's budget and consoles going back to exclusives gaming will start healing back to the way it was.

Custom hardware, bulk spending, negotiated deals, no desktops or other stores, 30% tax on devs, locked-in optimization, actual retail presence, serve as a showcase for Nvidia and AMD chips, knowing what parts to have and which ones are too expensive. Yeah, consoles are in a far better position to tank this because Nintendo and Sony know how to make a console. It's clear as day that neither Microsoft nor Valve ever knew how to make one and it clearly shows.

>believe
If there's gaming's market cap mutates to what it was in the 80s/90s, it'll have same economic incentives and hopefully will result in similar executive structure. Was it perfect? No, but I hope it'll lower publishers expectations and drive them to want to push risker products.
>>739986417

>>
>>739986417
Why is PS6 a handheld?
>>
>>739986417
Yeah if the prices for pc handhelds continue to be retarded, that will be the case. $1000-$1500 is too much and the companies making them aren't getting a discount for buying 100 million units worth of parts and outside of Valve don't have a storefront to subsidize their purchases with like Nintendo and Sony have. But even Valve doesn't have the same scale to get bulk discounts so the prices are still fucked for their products.

The industry hasn't given up on cloud gaming yet though. Make no mistake, their end goal is to have NOTHING be client side in the future and it's going to be to stop random people from having access to local AI without guard rails.

Buying bulk for an even lower margin on terrible margins when demand for compute and memory is sky high is not going to make any meaningful difference. PC is a vastly bigger market than consoles are and all the major component manufacturers are basically saying they don't even care about that in comparison to AI. Even electricity companies are saying fuck powering people's homes, we can get way more money powering data centers. Thinking Nvidia, AMD, Micron, etc. will make exceptions for consoles is like thinking electricity companies may shut off power to my house, but they'll make an exception for my TV. It's pure delusion.

That's why the end goal will be cloud everything so they can get away without putting any meaningful hardware in what you buy. You will be buying a screen that interacts with their servers without anything available locally.

Think the Playstation Portal but streaming from data centers instead of from your PS5. This will be their end goal for phones too, the RAM and storage crisis' are also impacting those. This might be 10 years away still but tech CEOs have already stated this is their ideal. An ultra thin device that interfaces with data centers and that's it.

It won't even be that. The problem with the cloud gaming thing is it eats compute that would have otherwise gone towards AI. Yes, some corporations might have wanted to push you will own nothing in this scenario, but not when that compute is still better served elsewhere for them.
It's why what's currently happening is unsustainable. They're so focused on prioritizing AI, they're cutting out the people who'd pay to use it. They're basically betting on AGI and it becoming so insanely capable they won't need anyone's money, or anyone at all, and god knows what happens after that.

Surely THIS random desert war will be the final nail in the coffin of for-profit farming.

If pc goes, consoles would go first. Consoles are entirely reliant on the same thing pc is, while being far less useful and lower profit for component manufacturers.

Nintendo and Sony would adore cloud gaming if they could get away with it. That is a real direction they could go in if things get to expensive for the average consumer.

PC will never go, PC gaming, on the other hand, that's a different story. Consoles are safe though.
>>
>>739990212
They are boiling you like frogs. The only reason Nintendo likes physical is for the physical presence in stores, not for any consumer friendly reason. They hate the second hand market and they hate you having any control. Key cards exist because it lets them have all the control and the physical presence. Their end goal will just be a slab of cardboard with a code on it so you can't resell it.

But it bears repeating: Valve is the ONLY "PC Gaming company" that is actually trying to diversify and do shit in the PC gaming/hardware business.

>Sees MS trying to pull an Apple
>Moves into Linux and makes Linux better than it was 20 years ago for PC gaming and in general
>Sees x86 being pushed aside for Broadcomm's ARM chips

Say what you want about Valve as a company (and rightly so in most cases), but their initiatives in software/hardware isn't the problem.

Unfortunately he was better then the opposition which is really all you need to be. Hopefully the next guy will do a better job. Imagine how low everyone's taxes could be if they just got rid of the fucking debt.

I was a waitfag, so instead of upgrading I waited and not due to the prices I will keep waiting and who knows when the new hardware drops in 2027 I might keep waiting some more.

Do you have any idea how much of a shit storm it will be to phase out x86 from the commercial business industry?

You ever played sims. Do you fucking understand the levels of infrastructure even in Industrial machines that are aged by 50 years now still in use?

Tech will always be priced and designed to fit a purpose.
The fact is the tech has reached a technological plateau. All these features developers are not using them for on a proficient level. The make believe dream that AI will fix this is abysmally hilarious. If someone does crack it it will be packaged securely and charged a very expensive monthly service.

This is great. A generation of groomable idiots makes me feel good about future aspirations of being a cult sex leader.

No it isn't. The "games" are chores to get pngs. The only good things that come out of gauchas are good soundtracks, characters and the endless amount of fanworks (most important part)

I don't understand, even if you believe that NVIDIA is going full ARM on every platform, it does not mean that you'll be forced to use pre-builts, you'll just a SoC that has CPU, GPU and unified memory on it in one package, and put it into your motherboard. Or perhaps the motherboard will come with a SoC soldered in. But you'll still be building your PC.

>son takes over
Except the son in question doesn't give a shit and doesn't want to have anything to do with valve. He wants to become a racecar driver or something instead.
Valve has no successors primed at all, so unless Gabe parachutes some random in sometime soon it's over the moment he kicks the bucket.

We do nothing
Console manufacturers are constantly saving PC gaming by fucking up massively with their consoles.
PC and Valve win without doing anythang

Nobody said anything about starvation, retard. He said things are going to cost more. Your example of the Ukraine considering things did get pricey partly because of it.

Having locked bootloaders and not being modular are much bigger issues.

false alarm. based on what they've shown, that thing will be super expensive, definitely over $5000, and intended for professionals in mega corporations. ARM makes sense for lightweight laptops and handheld devices and extremely long battery life, but x86 will always be a superior option for tradional PC setup.

ARM is in fact the perfect future of videogames.
Affordable mobile chips that can easily run up to PS3.
Cheap hardware, no more bloated dev budgets.
