VR is shit because it's basically nothing but a 360 degrees screen glued to your eyes.

How close a light source is to your eyes is orthogonal to the frequency and amplitude of the light waves hitting your eyes. You shouldn't stare at the sun even though it's really far away and you can safely stare into a VR headset because the light it emits is dim.

And this is $3500 on top of that.

Basically the displays and lenses are tiny, but apple just shoved the headset full of dumbshit and they didn't move the compute to the puck even though they already had a puck for the battery. Then they had to do meme shit like a curved PCB to make it fit. It got hot which adds cooling weight. Then a lenticular external display. The retardation goes on and on for something that starts as a lightweight device. Then samshit copied them like retards and somehow gave it a quest pro style headband which was notoriously uncomfortable.

>>
>>739978279
I guess you won't notice the shake that much if you wear the visor yourself. Our brain filters that shit, that's why you don't perceive it when you walk or run
>>
>>739978279
Streamers need global stabilization for streaming really badly. Right now it's usually on a per game basis and games rarely have a spectator mode in mind.

Headset wiggle isn't disorienting for players for the same reason wearing loose ski goggles isn't disorienting. The world is still in the same relative location whether your head is coupled with the headset or not.
>>
>>739978527
yes, thats exactly why I filter out camera shake in games instead of turning it off.
>>
>>739978309
You can get a giant monitor or TV to do this, you'll need it to be 3D which basically doesn't exist anymore, and you'll need a head tracker and the game will need the correct distortion profile. And the result won't be as good as the quest headset that cost a few hundred.

The heaviest headsets aren't a problem for some games and the lightest headsets aren't light enough for some games.

My quest with the battery strap is over 800 grams. It's not super comfortable facial interface wise, but I was able to play as much blade and sorcery as I wanted. The game that made me realize this is not going to work for me is forefront because two handed weapons that you have at high ready all the time. You are holding two controllers out with one at foregrip distance. This will lever the fuck out of your back over 1-2 hours and it takes dedication after 30 minutes for me.

When I tried a reverb G2 years ago as my first VR experience I thought it was pretty comfortable and did not feel as I do now. I also don't like my quest for casual use. If I'm putting it on, I want heavy exercise, light exercise, or vehicle sim. I could never casually play a flat game in it. It's not comfortable enough. Is it the facial interface? I don't know. Either that or heft is the reason I haven't messed with UEVR. Although the weight is even less of an issue when sitting down. It's like my face expects comfort when I'm being comfortable but I got this brick on my head.

Oh man i love threads where retards who have never used vr are commenting as if they have. Go buy a quest 3s its cheap as chips connect it to pc via wifi6 and just boot up any game or just a cinema you can walk around in and watch movies (like vrchat). no head jitter isnt a thing for the wearer only retards think so who havent used actual vr besides cardboard phone vr.

Also vr is 3d, a normal screen is 2d. There is depth in vr, a monitor has no depth. You cant play tennis in first person on a monitor but you can in vr.

Vrlets are like the poorfags still on rx480s and tn monitors with membrane keyboards and ps/2 ball mice.

>>739989468
Both are finite and AR is less limited than VR in some ways. In VR you can't drink that beverage, sit in that chair, you walk through the walls, your natural locomotion through the environment is limited to what you can do in a confined floor space, and you're limited to controllers or your hands. AR is a different exercise where you bring virtual things into your space, where you can physically interact with what's really there, and everything real can be an interface device and not just a controller. So for example in AR I can pick up a real tennis racket and hit a virtual ball instead of picking up a virtual tennis racket. Or I can throw a real ball at virtual targets.

If we stuck a gopro on your head without stabilization it would look like you had parkinsons
>>
>>739993207
yeah there's no jitter to notice, like you see when spectating VR

When a human moves their head (try it yourself) they don't get sick even though that movement is unpleasant to spectate

When the headset shifts shakes or swings on the head the user also doesn't get sick because through the lenses the world is still in a consistent orientation. It's like if you had a gopro attached to ski goggles and wiggled the goggles. It makes no difference to the wearer what cancer and aids the gopro is viewing.

Now you can get stuttering/judder when the game can't keep a consistent framerate or your wireless network quality is poor. But that's not what people are seeing in typical VR webms.
>>
I actually believe AR would be the future once someone figured out how to mass produce those reflect glasses so it doesn't cost $1000 each.
The way Apple and Meta is trying to do is really not safe for using outdoors, and the Hololens style(Transparent glasses with "reflect scope" implementation should be the only way due to safety protocols in any country with strict rules.

>>

No one wants a screen literally in their eyes while outside. VR is fine as an at home experience.

Ick on eck fatso will be dead from diabetes by the time hardware prices have gotten sane enough for the frame to actually come out

We have meta glasses with a hud that are useful right now, they just suck because its monocular and they are still too fresh to do much. But having instant streaming information at a glance is a huge bandwidth difference than pulling out your phone. The only downside is well privacy apocalypse
>>
>>739997238
Only thing people would use it for would be navigation assistance or for work if it could be applied. As a consumer electronic I can't see people voluntarily strapping it to their face just to watch TV or something when a phone already exists. So I can see the work force using it but on the consumer level I don't really know what people would want it for beyond a heads up display for navigation which a phone can also do well enough.
>>
>>739997295
you can have instant encyclopedic information of everything you look at, you can interrogate AI about what you are looking at, you can see subtitles for foreign language speakers. It can get fucked up too. It can tell you what to say to be a master of conversation. Everything that's too slow to look at a screen and touch it with your thumb is now real time
