The desire to get your kids into the things you're into is a logical psychological drive originating from how skills and trades were inherited from generation to generation, defining entire families and giving birth to surnames such as Smith, Sawyer, Miller, Merchant, etc). Problem is industrial society and its consequences have absolutely robbed man of any and all meaningful activity, and so most build their entire identity and personality around pop culture consumption. Trying to force your kids into playing the same shitty games you did as a kid is a continuation of that evolutionary behaviour which has become entirely vestigial.
