Which video game would you say has the highest media literacy bar?

I'm trying to impress a girl that goes to film school, and she says video games are the lowest denominator for media literacy. I want to prove her wrong.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog

>Pepe originated in Furie's 2005 webcomic Boy's Club. The character became an Internet meme when his popularity steadily grew across websites such as Myspace, Gaia Online, and 4chan from 2008 onwards; by 2015, he had become one of the most popular memes on 4chan and Tumblr.

but extremely cynically. it's not deep but a generic film school student might think so.
>>
>>739981671
You can't. The only category in which video games are better than other media is in their ability to evoke emotions in the viewer/player, and only good games achieve that

Tell her that we live enough in a postmodern world where references are nothing more than a fanservice for people with a bachelor's degree. In this case, Nier Automata with all those Marks, Engels, Paskal, Immanuel, Plato... robots should work well

Deus ex in the sense that if you are not well read you won’t understand that the game is making fun of le deep themes.

Just talk about dorf and how it dynamically generate stories that interact with your actions.
Trying to shove a book in a video game is a waste of potential of the media.

Any game that makes no sense if you don't love videogames. Something like a bullet hell, Ninja Gaiden Black, a good fighting game, Nier Automata (though this recommendation to an outsider is guaranteed to go over their head) or Doom Eternal.

In a way yeah. But conversely they tend to be simple enough to also work as great entry points, so it's not quite accurate to say they "require" media literacy, they'll teach you how to read.

Team Ninja games

>ut conversely they tend to be simple enough to also work as great entry points,
Not really they dont teach you or tell you anything on how they are played or what you have to do in them. Try beating the first legend of zelda its literally impossible

Also point and click games in general they are super obtsue
>>
>>739981671
If she doesn't know about Disco Elysium, this game always work for this kind of idiot. You can't show anything that's actually a game because they have 0 experience and would struggle to even walk properly, but blame said "inferior medium" instead of themselves.
>>
>>739984615
I mean they worked for child me. Point n click maybe, never been really into those so I guess they did filter me.

Garage bad dream adventure

what the FUCK is media literacy?
>>
>>739984668
>I mean they worked for child me.
Most people here have fond memories of games from that era specially things like battletoads but most people even people who played the whole day every day never made it past the first stages most games from that era are super hard even someoen who grew up with them would get filtered by a lot of them
>>
>>739984654
If she knows about Disco Elysium, try Garage Bad Dream Adventure. Worked like a charm for a dude I met once who had similar opinions.
>>
>>739984691

I agree that Disco Elysium will have your highest chances of "impressing" her. But it probably won't.
>>739983220
If you've ever read in your entire life outside of having to read for school, you'll be fine. I'd love to say most people would get it, but most people are retarded. You need some very basic knowledge (like I'm talking High School College Prep tier) of political science, history, and have played at least one isometric CRPG to "get" it. It's not a high bar afaic, but it's one the majority of people on this planet won't pass.

She's not. Quite a few games are deliberately designed to have minimal cultural literacy needed, so much so that dolphins monkeys and crows can play.

I'm not going to dig up games you don't give a fuck about and aren't going to understand.

>>739984983
The only winning move is not to play.

>>739984654
>>739984923
Disco Elysium isn't good. And even if it was, writing a glorified Choose Your Own Adventure book and gating it behind a videogame doesn't change anything about the medium of gaming as whole. The strengths of videogames as a medium are its interactivity, atmosphere and ambience. Games like Ico, Shadows of the Colossus, RE1 and Silent Hill are the most artistic videogames that play into the medium's strength and you won't get anything better than that because it doesn't sell. Games that try to be movies or books are absolute fucking trash and don't deserve to be mentioned at all in the discussion of videogames as art.

video games are very close to books

There is a very fine line betwen cool and cringe and many cant tell them apart

You should take a photo of her, and then show her a video of you ejaculating onto that photo. Works every time. Also, video games.
>>
>>739981671
Tell her that film can never be Art, unlike videogames
