How does it hold up these days? Worth checking out? Any notable mods?
>>739984624Definitely worth a play. I've played it 3-4 times and haven't been able to get through the sequel once.
Worth a playBoth Legends games are booty butt asshole but their world and characters are so charming it hard carries themIn this 100-page document I outline how Mega Man Legends was the Undertale of its time
>>739984878It is awkward to learn to strafe and shoot properly like the game wants you to but it's fine once you get the hang of it
>>739984624If I remember it correctly MML doesn't lock on target unlike in MML2
>>739985047It does lock on targeting but you can't move while doing so.
>>739985047It does but there's no visual like in 2, it just lets you zone in on the nearest enemy
>>739984624I really like it but the controls are pretty wonky by today's standards.
>>739984624I replayed it recently just to be sure I didn't hallucinate it being a good game 20+ years ago. It's still a great video game, and I'd say there's nothing quite exactly like it. The whole adventure being located in a single town and the dungeon(s) underneath it is part of its strengths.MML2 diluting the game across multiple disconnected locations and more characters meant you had no time to really get attached or see them develop.
>>739984789Same here. What is it about the sequel that prevents us from finishing it?
>>739984624It aged pretty well. The artstyle and voice acting is outstanding and it's fun, but the controls are bad, particularly because they want you turning tank-style or with L/R whereas they should had put in analog controls but they didn't. The combat reduces to simply circlestrafing around enemies most of the time with lock-on. The plot is not very complex but it's enjoyable --the characters carry the game desu. They were definitely trying to compete against Ocarina and they succeeded in their own way.
>>739985719NTA but the sequel lacks that je ne sais quoi that first installments always have. It's better technically, but it loses a lot of the soul because they had to raise the stakes with the plot. It has good moments but it's not better than the original.
>>739984789>Mogs MML2Nothin' personnel...
>>739985719I find it slow and overly cinematic to start and then I get to the really, really obnoxious tribal kids and the torturous infiltration of the base of that guy from the Tron Bonne game and burn out immediatelyI've only tried twice though.1 just throws you into a dungeon immediately.
>>739985825I did enjoy playing this even though it was sort of just a collection of minigame ideas
>>739985723I don't think the dualshock was even released when MML came out
>>739985827Also I forgot to mention that a big part of the appeal in the first one is that over the length of the game you get to form relationships with the townsfolk and you get to influence and see how the Island grows. They also put a lot of care into their designs. Since there's no central locale in the second game that element is immediately forfeited.
>>739985827I always get filtered by the part where you have to shoot pirates out of the sky and your forced to stand in one place the whole time. Hard as fuck
>>739984624It's not a very good game. It's incredibly clunky and the only thing it has going for it is the art style.
>>739985941>Fight, or retreat? To me this has always been the weakest point in the game. It seems to me that they didn't bother rebalancing this fight and they lazily put in the option to retreat and reload the fight from that point with an automatic health refill.
>>739985941That part is miserable yeah, I actually forgot about it.2 has a miserable beginning and diehards for it swear it gets better but it is so hard to get to whenever that happens.
>>739986163But then you miss out on walking in on Roll fingering herself, seeing Tron naked and seeing a naked loli in the Tundra.
>>739986236I saw the 3rd thing, happens super early, and you see the first thing in MML1 anyway.
>>739986156i thought this part was really hard when i was a kid. i re-played it a few years ago and it was really easy.
>>739986389If you're like me you were bad at setting up your buster parts as a kid
>>739986491i wasn't. i figured out i needed to maximize my range that that boss. i was just bad at aiming and choosing which target to hit.
really needs a decomp/recomp glow up
>>739986620Maybe for mouse aiming. Otherwise, modern games strive to be like this game.
>>739986792the game feels like anime from it's time. i wish more games would try to capture that feeling.
>>739986620Honestly, Megaman fans are the prefect people to do this because they have the best most dedicated bunch of modders and programmers who truly love the series. Its surprising they haven't done so already and Legends is the perfect games to start. Someone really should suggest this.
>>739987157The most dedicated Megamanfags all seem to be turbo autistic and/or tranny tier and have a distaste for Legends due to Tron/Roll/etc. being sexualized minors that they don't personally approve of
>>739987217No that's just /v/ and the rest of 4chan. Actual MM fags have their own site(probably using discord by now though).
>>739986156If you beat it women around town reward you (sexually)
>>739987423capcom cannot do this in current year
>>739987135
>>739987330>that's (You) guys!>all the REAL MM fans are on discord!>not autistic and/or trannies you're gonna need to find a way to cope about this
>>739986236>walking in on Roll fingering herselfThis does not happen at all
>>739987861It does in my half remembered delusions, therefore its 100% canon.
