Why do I have to join a Discord for a game when the board is already there?
>>
>>739993651
what?
>>
An imageboard for every game. Why hasn't this happened yet?
>>
>>739993651
Well it's a chatroom, it's different from the board.

I don't remember tutorials, walkthroughs and the like being gatekept in the chat back when we used superior services like irc though.
>>
Steam gives devs a very accessible forum, still every game is join the discord for updates, news and other things. It was never Join IRC for this shit
>>
>>739993651
So you can respect the trans queen moderators duping their nephew's cereal with xanax and estrogen
>>
>>739994128
I just ignore it. If they don't want to give info on Steam, fine. I don't give a fuck about game then. Maybe I will pirate it if I remember about it in the future (probably not even that)

what's way way worse
>join the discord
>have to be approved by some gayass bot
>go in expecting 2-3 channels for chatting and q&a
>there's a thousand fucking channels for bullshit like animal pics, all of them get posted in about once a month
>get banned for no reason
>>
>>739993651
I never know how to act in discord. I accept the invite and then see the general filled with inside jokes and I just don’t bother interacting. It’s like walking up to a group of people you don’t know that will probably say something to make you uncomfortable and leave
>>
>>739993651
>board
4chan, by its very design, sucks for actual conversations. It's only good for shitposts.
>>
>>739993651
If you don't join the cult, you won't get groomed.
>>739994128
That one at least I get. Only niche communities even know IRC exists anymore. It's like asking people to post their issues to a usenet group.
>>
>>739994363
Its mostly small group of people that spend most of their day there. In some cases, discussions have absolutely nothing to do with whats server is about. Idk why these people cant make another server and take off topic shit there.
>>
>>
>>739994375
what site structure/app is actually good for conversations?
>>
Where the fuck can I talk about games with people who actually like games? People here hate video games, and Reddit is filled with fags.

>Where the fuck can I talk about games with people
you can't, everyone dead
>>
>>739994608
You'll just have to add individual people to talk to games about. I haven't had much success in a group setting. It can be done but understandably, the more niche your interests are, the less people will engage unless they're genuinely curious. One of the people I talk to games about the most is from /trash/ however, and surprisingly we don't talk sex very often, and never with it involving each other.
Maybe it's a case of a board's home topic being the worst place to talk about that thing.
>>
>>739993651
>ask tech question in discord
>get answer immediately
>don't have to deal with clickbait videos or some idiot on 4chan just flat out lying because they are desperate for someone to interact with and there's zero consequences
>don't have to worry about stalkers or harassment, no rogue mods abusing their power since everything is out in the open
>servers are split up for very specific purposes so no having to share a server with retards playing unrelated crap
I don't even like talking to people, but how is this not the obvious best option? Anyone afraid of discord is clueless. I am extremely socially awkward and have never had a problem with discord.
>>
>>739994363
I never bother being social on discord. I just join for organizing groups, voice chat, and asking questions/searching for info. If the channel you're in expects any more of you, you're in the wrong place, just leave.
>>
>>739994729
I should be able to type in Google and get what I want, not ask a live person in glorified mIRC. It worked just fine for 20 years.
>>
>>739994729
The problem is that when I, another anon, also have your problem, there's fuckall way for me to find your community, find your post, or find the answer myself. It's a walled garden.
>>
>>739994839
>I should be able to type in Google and get what I want
Filling out wikis is also a "tranny activity" according to /v/ and maintained by discords. And for some people the question is too complicated for the internet to answer. Not every game is braindead.

>discord bad
>the result of discord organized on a wiki good
>>
>>739994854
Not really though. Most active games and other types of communities have large public discords that are easily accessible. And it has a decent search system to find old posts.
>>
>discord
>decent search system
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAHAHAHA
>>
>>739995035
And when that community shuts down because the mods move on, or the official representative says to nuke the server, or because discord shits itself? I can pull up a gamefaqs guide for a PS2 game that's older than the fucking author was when he wrote the damn thing. I don't want to have to navigate to the "right discord", join, deal with their orientation process, use discord's dogshit search, and then maybe get my answer. At least steam forums are right the fuck there and ping the devs directly.
>>
>>739995094
I mean it's not amazing but I've never had any particular issues with it. I do some modding and use the search all the time to find answers to niche problems. Sounds like a skill issue on your part.
>>
>>739995117
Anon there is not a single thing of value on gamefaqs. All of that is garbage written by 13 year olds.
>>
>>739995117
Idk man kinda sounds like you're just preemptively making up problems that you haven't actually had.
>>
>>739995153
I bet you complain when you read books without pictures too
>>
>>739995153
I'm on /v/ at midnight when normal people have work in the morning. I thought it was already clear I was in the market for taking advice from teenagers.
>>
>>739995184
No anon, you don't understand. There is not a single thing helpful on gamefaqs. I don't think we're even perceiving games on the same dimension if you think that's helpful.
>>
I imagine an anon going into a completely random discord and saying
>about to play this braindead rpg, what am I in for? I havent even touched it yet but explain every single detail to me so I can't miss a single thing and don't have to think at all
Perhaps he even attaches a screenshot of the game off google to his post to get attention, so people really know he means business. Then he proceeds to not play the game and dump MLP porn.
>>
>>739995473
which pony though
>>
Discords are clique shit

Just use an anime girl pfp???
>>
>>739995686
Yes if you have no personality, you have ol’ reliable, the anime girl avatar.
>>
>>739993651
What game requires discord?
>>
People who willingly choose the NSFW role are the real scum
>>

>garbage written by 13 year olds
Autistic 13 year olds who detail step by step how to 100% a game like FFX-2.
>>
>>739994569
Internet forum software was perfected in the early 2000s just in time for forums to go obsolete thanks to social media.
>>
>>739993651
What, your don't like being forced in a high school like environment, grown adults with arrested development and having to walk on eggshells? (ha!)
>>
>>739994569
Anything where you're not anonymous. For proper conversation, you need to be able to tell that you keep talking to the same person.
>>
>>739995014
>Will pop up in search engine results
>Don't need to make an account or register or anything
>Can't be banned for no reason even if you never write anything
>No need to LARP to gain access to the information you want
>Organized in a way that doesn't force you to scroll past months of conversation or know the specific word or sentence you're looking for
>Don't need to specifically ask for help
How is that even up for debate?
