Piracy isn't theft. I am fed up of faggots with unshakeable conviction in their own moral superiority telling other people how to behave.

The solution is to let people lend their digital platform games to friends like we used to with physical, but we live in such an ultra-jew world that you don't even own the game when you "buy" it to begin with. So lead by example Fag Club.

>>
>>739998595
Everyone dislikes capitalism until they have something to lose.

It's funny how prevalent this is in the indie dev communities. I remember how everyone mocked NFTs because you can just save or screenshot the files, how everyone said they support Copyleft (real license, it's free and all content made using it must be free) instead of Copyright.
Then AI came and now everyone cries about GitHub stealing their code, cries about how their art is being stolen and so on.

Likewise I've seen many people talk about piracy openly only to start criticising it and trying to justify it to mainstream games but not their indie games. As soon as it's taken from them, they start crying about it.

Everyone is for piracy until it's their shit getting pirated.

Personally, I don't care. I don't think it's morally wrong at all. It's simply copying and pasting data. Just like I don't think AI code or art is wrong, it's simply parsing and processing data en masse. Data centres are a different topic from AI though.

Crying about it is retarded. They simply wouldn't play your game if they couldn't pirate it. They're a different economic system and trying to pretend they're costing you economically in a system they don't operate in is retardation.
>>
>>740002628
It's true that a lot of people don't know what it's like to put an enormous amount of effort into a single project.

That being said, open source software exists. Plenty of people work extremely hard without wanting to be renumerated.
>>
>>739998595
$20 is the low-end AA price point. Indies should be generally under 10 and maybe reach 15 if they're amazing. Know your place, indie dev.
>>
>>739998595
Nope, I prefer pirating anything I can and throw more money into index funds instead so I can retire years earlier. Imagine what a tard you have to be to consooom and then have to retire later than the pirate chads.

AI art isn't wrong because it's stealing it's wrong because it circles the drain of creativity. It robs the creator of the intense pleasure one gets from actually creating something and it robs the consumer of the ability to connect with other people through art.

>>
>>740002871
This is the most pretentious bullshit you artfags love to harp on about.
There's no "intense pleasure" for someone that can't draw for shit, is demoralised by how little they can make or how bad it looks. And there's no fucking connection to other people through art, you appreciate art because it looks beautiful.

I don't and you don't give a fuck if a beautiful painting was made by some autistic paint obsessed man in 2017 or some depressed world war 1 veteran in 1932. You care about it because it's a nice painting to look at, that is simply all.
Anything else is being little cunt trying to appear cultured.

Every dev complaining about piracy that you see is either a terminally online retard or is trying to get reach by baiting people. That one tranny crying about lost sales that you reposted on 4chan for laughs? Chances are your thread started a game of telephone, making trips on various discord servers with more and more of the context torn away from it, eventually bringing tangible sales to the thing you tried to mock.
>>
>>740003026
>And there's no fucking connection to other people through art,
wrong
>>
>>740003026
>I wasn't good immediately therefore there's no pleasure to be had!
Bet you play games on easy.

If what you say is true, there's no reason to consume art, the world has plenty of beauty in very high definition. Art is cool because it's gone through another person's mind. Whether you realise it or not, you are connecting with them. Same is true of books. Hell, I'm connecting with YOU right now even if it's in some minor, abstract way. I wouldn't have that experience if your post was written by an LLM.
>>
>>740002628
The only way I would feel ripped off is if the people copying it are then making a buck off it. Other than that no I don't give a fuck. It's my pleasure if someone else finds anything I make helpful.

>if your post was written by an LLM
And what if this is wrote by a LLM? What if I'm sending your comment into one and asking it to give me back a reply? You'd never know, because you simply don't care about the origin or the creator, you care about what's in front of you.

>art is cool because it's gone through another person's mind
Then AI art is cool too then. Another person thought of that image, they described what's in their mind in words, gave it to a machine and hand curated what output they want to share. Maybe they tried different models, maybe they tried different descriptions, maybe they had the machine iterate on it again to closer resemble their thoughts.
Unless it's made and posted by a bot, AI art has went through someone else's mind.

Piracy is a huge litmus test for devs and this faggot failed.
You make a piece of art, would you not want as many people to experience it as possible? You give people an option to support your work by releasing it thru a storefront / publisher. Pirates are doing you a favor by showing it to everyone else.
This furfagbait game looks so bland and shit that I lost my interest after looking at 2 screenshots let alone pirate it. Nigga should be happy people are playing it.
>>
>>740002829
if you need a financial incentive to make art then you shouldn't make it. for thousands of years people would make art out of passion and would not expect financial gain, there are many painters who only gained recognition after death
>>

Then you know that it's fun to be good at something. I prompted my poor GPU into pieces for years before starting to learn how to draw and fuck me there's so much more pleasure to be had versus just typing and refining an ouput.

>And what if this is wrote by a LLM?
For starters, I'd be impressed. For seconds, I'd look for conversation elsewhere. I mean if you're fine with it why not browse an imageboard populated entirely by LLMs?

>Then AI art is cool too then. Another person thought of that image
A prompt is just that, a prompt to have something else do it. They had the outline, the very abstract, and then they moved from there. I can see your point but it's like 1% their mind 99% the model. If I tell a friend to draw me a picture of a girl holding a balloon - their mind had a lot more to do with the outcome than mine.

piracy has no proven impact on sales yet publishers keep agreeing to denuvo deals. out of touch boomers are intentionally making the experience worse for paying customers to prevent a hypothetical loss, and you're blaming pirates? we went through more than thirty years of PC games being shipped without kernel accessing built in anti-cheat bullshit, but now that they have a cheap devil to cozy up with, you're swallowing the narrative.

and for what? what do you even gain from defending corporate leeches from your anonymous peers? projected moral superiority? a chance to call someone brown or poor? is all that really worth your hobby being made actively worse for everyone by people who only see you as a number?

Not necessarily, I simply think that lower difficulties remove the game portion of them and leads it to either objective chasing or cutscenes.
I get that drawing is more fun than AI art, I like drawing. I just don't think it's anything special outside of a cool hobby.

>I'd be impressed
Fair enough. I've always wondered why nobody prompts their LLM to make spelling or grammar mistakes and whatnot, they're all pretty easy to clock imo.

>prompt to have something else do it
Right but it's basically becoming a product manager at that point. People love to give credit to decision makers, especially in gaming, for things they simply prompted other managers to prompt their teams to do. AI art is the equivalent of that to me.

In any case, good conversation anon. I have to go but I wish you a good day :).

My unsubstantiated belief is that piracy is like attention, it only hurts shitty games. If you're afraid of piracy it's because your game is shit and you don't want people to see that before they've given up their money. Just like if everyone calls a game shit, but it's good, it stays good. And if a game is given a lot of positive attention but it's bad, it stays bad, like concord or highguard.

i feel like this is a massive holdover from the Napster/Limewire fear mongering thing in the early 2000s. that was the mainstream’s first brush with mass piracy. software piracy has been a thing since day 1 but before the internet you had to know a guy who knows a guy, or be lucky to live near a market with a guy selling bootlegs. with CD .mp3 music piracy then it was as easy as copy and paste. the thing with videogames or otherwise more complex softwares like photoshop, is that it’s not that easy, it has to get cracked first, users need to know their sources, be able to recognise potential malware etc. to add to your point anon, i wanna say you’re 100% spot on. videogame piracy only worries retards who know their game is shit, instead of people buying and then finding out it’s shit.

if you took away a pirate's means to pirate, those pirates (at least the majority) would probably spend money on video games
piracy is an issue because it costs the industry potential sales
you might think "oh I just wouldn't play that game if I couldn't pirate it", and that's all well and good
but let's be real; most of them wouldn't find another hobby they'd actually spend money on games and just grumble about the fact that their choices went from thousands of games to whatever they could afford

By and large I've stopped pirating PC games mainly to avoid having to think about things like malware. This is contingent on the game being reasonably priced for how much I desire them of course. I think the only PC game I've pirated in the last few years is Crusader Kings 3.

Live-service/gacha/gaas got popular because it makes more money due to the long-lasting inflow of cash they have, compared to a more traditional singleplayer/multiplayer game. Piracy has nothing to do with it.
With Gacha/Gaas, etc, you can keep a player playing your game for years, even a fucking decade and once they have bought some skins and shit they'll be hooked for ages.
You outright can't do that with AVP2010, or Deus Ex, or Homeworld.
