According to public information Shovel Knight made Yacht Club at least 40 million dollars in profit.
Despite that company is on a verge of bankruptcy.
Devs reported that they need only 500k sales to stay afloat. But this doesn’t make sense, with them wasting 40 million dollars while developing one game, Mina’s pitiful 500k sales will translate only to ~5 million dollars after Gaben and California taxes. They will stay afloat for 1~2 years only while games have 6 years dev cycle

It is basically impossible for them to have made 40M in profit with the hilarious player peak this piece of shit has
Anyways, what the fuck did they spend 40M in? It was not the game

Serves that stupid smug looking boat right.
>>
>>740003593
Considering they're a commiefornia based company I can only imagine the amount of fees, taxes, ordinances, reparations, social programs, and mandatory lgbtq+blm funding they've had to spend just to operate in that shithole of a state.
>>
>>740003593

10m was pissed away during Mina’s development. The rent for their Santa Monica office probably ate whatever wasn’t used up by the SK expansions.
>>

>It is basically impossible for them to have made 40M in profit with the hilarious player peak this piece of shit has
Retarded zoomoid nigger. Games used to have long-term sales, that's how Shovel Knight made 40m while costing 15 bucks and never peaking beyond 3k players at any given time. It also sold quite a bit on consoles, including the 3DS.
>>
>>740003520
didn't they blow it all making all the shovel knight expansions for free?
>>
>>740004821
>Games used to have long-term sales,

Note the word 'used to'

Shovel Knight is a game I consider an 11/10, but the sheen on that fades before it becomes just another old game you wait for a 90% discount on.
>>
>>740004914
That didn't help but the majority of their misspending was on having an office in the most expensive part of Santa Monica.

General mismanagement allowing for two games to be worked on independently with neither reaching anywhere near completion for years didn't help either.
>>
>>740003520
why the fuck do you care how much money a company makes? This is not a discussion about vidya, it's not about gameplay, it's design, it's aesthetics. It's not even about whether the game is well received, about it's reception or about some fan shit.
It's just idiots totally brainwashed and rotted on capitalism, counting money they have no connection with.
I honestly hope you fucking kill yourself some day.
>>
>>740003593
Previous success don't guaranty future success, the market was different back then
>>740004941
>11/10
Shovel Knight was enjoyable but it never really made an impact for me. I remember like 5 things, and most unusual one was using slime to land on lava. The game was very generic
>>740007119
>why the fuck do you care how much money a company makes?
Because watching faggots go bankrupt is funny and it makes other faggots mad on their behalf
>>
>>740008616
>on their behalf
If Yacht Club does go under I'm sure some of the devs will post on twitter blaming the gaming chuds or whatever. No need for proxies.
>>
>>740007119
Companies going bankrupt has consequences for the gaming industry, Anon. It’s the same thing when companies do stupid things like suing everyone who uses their ideas (as Fender apparently is doing now in the world of musical instruments). Although it’s a legal issue, it directly affects musicians, music producers, and the entire culture.

What if they move their headquarters to a cheaper state?
How's Nevada?
>>
>>740007119
you'd do the same to another company, you're just mad it's them
>>
>>740008923
They already sent all their employees to telecommuting after selling their office (and yes the grill). I doubt moving HQ would do much at this point unless they get better business tax breaks.
>>
>>740008923
How about a return to making indie games instead?
Is it really so hard to branch out and have 10 garage band studios instead of masquerading their multimillion project as one of the little fellas work?
>>
>>740003694
Their office is right next to the Santa Monica Pier, the most expensive neighborhood in the most expensive city of the fucking country. I think they're still there but they had an office sale recently.
>>
>>740003593
>It was not the game
Overhead. You have to pay for salary and benefits, rent, equipment, electricity, water, etc. It's why these retarded smaller studios need to get the fuck out of California. If they were located practically anywhere else in the USA their overhead would be 1/3d the cost.

Truly the ultimate metric for retards.
>>

It doesn't effect faggots in this thread one bit, since they don't actually play video games. literal retarded cancer.

>yeah Greg I’m gonna need you to sell your house and move to bumfuck Montana next week
>>
>>740010335
How brainwashed do you have to be to think being unemployed in LA is better than having a stable job for the next 40 years and living in the top 5% in a Midwest state?
>>
>>740010640
Well you need to live where the companies that can hire you are. Yah LA sucks dick and there's better options, but I'm not going to move to bumfuckville where there's a total of one company that could hire my skillset. You'd be completely fucked if you lose your job or the company fails for some reason.
>>
>>740010335
mmm, Montana.
I like how that sounds, like somewhere you want to retire and do nothing but your autistic hobbies till the end of your days.
>>
>>740007119
>why the fuck do you care how much money a company makes
because it's actually fucking frustrating seeing talented devs bankrupt themselves through mismanagement while bullshit c-tier devs make bank simply because they are laser focused on profit above all else.
>>
>>740011621
That's nothing more than a self fulfilling prophecy. People will go where there's work. That is a proven historical fact. Yacht Club Games isn't in Santa Monica because that's the only place they could find employees. They're there because they wanted the luxury and the luxury is probably going to cost them their jobs and company.
>>
>>740003520
If Mina the hollower was the exact same game with a shovel knight skin, titled “Shovel Knight: Adventures” they would have sold way more copies.

Silksong really has set everyone's expectations out of wack hasn't it. That game is such an outlier, that game's levels of successes is ABSOLUTELY NOT the norm for indie game. For what it is, Nina the Hollower has done quite well. I don't think anything can save YCGs form they're financial nightmare
>>
>>740014345
>indie
Mina the hollower cost between 10 and 40 million dollars and requires half a million sales to break even. In what fucking world is that Indie game?
>>
>>740014901
>>740014345
> the studio co-founder Sean Velasco stated he will be "disappointed" if the game does not ultimately shift 1 million copies.
Scratch that, one million copies is disappointing sales for devs.
Indie game expects ONE MILLION COPIES SOLD AT LEAST

Yeah. And it was a measly 20k, whereas lots of other businesses donated hundreds of thousands, if not millions.

but of course, /v/ has to laser focus on a tiny donation one time six years ago and constantly bring it up in every mina thread

someone made a video on yacht club not too long ago and in the end they were just not good with money at all.
>>
>>740016483
Considering those donations were used to release murders, rapists and other scum, it’s even worse
>>
>>740003593

Being in a Yacht Club, obviously. It's in their fucking name.
>>
>>740014984
That's some pretty unrealistic expectations unless it's a banger of a game with staying power or AAA slop that's marketed to the tune of 100 million dollars.
>>
>>740016342
Not guilty! Case adjourned.
