Depends on the game and the kid character. Some can be grating as fuck, some can be fantastic. Doesn't really matter if it's Western/Eastern. But yes, Japan is skewed because they tend to do it more often thanks to RPGs and so on, so they have a bigger ratio of good-bad comparatively. If they had an equal amount of games, it'd probably be about the same relatively speaking.

Children characters really depend on three things, voice acting, prominence to story, gameplay. Gameplay usually either being typically good for RPGs, or just escort missions. Prominence to story can go a myriad of ways depending on the story, and voice acting is typically bad in Western compared to Eastern just because of the difference in VA/Seiyuu quality control. A big thing for Western games is mainly "violence against children npcs".

that's the conclusion I came to from just playing the game blind. I wound up watching the american krogan videos months later and agreed with his take on infinite (because his video was just restating the things I already believed) and hard disagreed with his video on bioshock 1.
I actually have no idea how to interpret the ending of infinite as saying anything other than that white oppression of minorities is uniquely uncaused evil and suicide is the only way to prevent it.
The game had a very easy pathway to have booker and elizabeth redeem themselves without suicide: have booker and elizabeth actually join the vox and defeat comstock. Just do basic bitch steampunk star wars where booker overcomes his potential for evil and instead does good. The game even pretends like this is what its doing until it flips the script and becomes entirely about quantum time travel magical bullshit and then ends with elizabeth killing booker.
