If you want a mixed sword/magic build then the swamp camp is the way to go. You won't learn the highest magic circles from them, though. For meele it's best to invest learning points into two handed since the best sword in the game is a two handed weapon. Regardless of build it's always good to learn some one handed and increase strength a bit first like another anon pointed out. Even if you want to play a mage it'll take until chapter 2 until you learn magic proper and with no meele training you might struggle. And one handed comes in handy even when playing a magic character since there are freezing spells so you can freeze the enemy and then just beat him to death with a sword if you wanted to.

As far as I can tell you are sort of meant to go from 1h + bow to 2h + crossbow/magic once you get the job advancement but regardless if you want to go full warrior you will need to be able to fight in melee. You can't stealth archer it up and magic isn't strong enough to clear enemies until kinda late.
