Supposed to be an "archdruid". In order to evoke the whole tree-wizard aesthetic for an experimental-model-prototype robot, he's got "roots" made of pipes and tubes and "branches" made of antennas and receiver dishes. I'm not entirely sure the branch-antler-antennas is working, it feels sort of busy and part of me feels like I'm just redesigning Siren Head. After it's textured/painted I may tone that down or cut it back to just the antlers. I feel like aesthetically the antlers are cooler on their own but it just doesn't make any sense functionally.

Mechanically, this is a boss encounter that does phase 1 rooted to the ground spamming projectiles, then phase 2 it breaks off of its "roots" and can fly around.

oh forgot to mention that this weeked I had a real playtest thanks to a relative that was visiting me. It was cool to see someone else play the game live, figuring out stuff and killing goblins. I'm quite happy because there were barely any bugs (all fixed now) and feedback was positive, specially regarding difficulty: I was fearing the game could be too easy but it seemed to be "just fine" until the final part of the demo which seemed quite hard, but that's fine since that was my intention

its kinda like baking, but not really. basically it'll take the realtime lights then cache them into a buffer, and only recalculate once every X frames, when there's a dynamic object entering into its probe volumes, when lights disabled, etc.
and its pretty fast cus light calculations doesnt have to be on the surface shader at all, all the surface shader needs to do is sample a texture or since it uses APV it can be pushed onto objects with a post process.
its basically jumping through a ton of hoops to make deferred lights lmao. except instead of lighting happening near the end, i can inject the lighting before or during post processing.

im hoping to someday recreate something like Splinter Cell or Hitman Blood Money one day, so the little raccoon game i'm making is a nice start even if its super inspired by Untitled Goose Game as well as regular stealth
basically doing a small tech demo of the raccoon, then i'll either go back to my weird dreamy game again, or start the stealth splinter cell one. prob the stealth one since thats my fav genre for games anyway

Look i'm actually not going to shit on you I acutally quite like the chorus effect you put on the guitar, I'm mainly a guitar player myself so that's kind of where i base everything off of. I like the overall like sound of it but i can tell you definitely need to add like a melody or some other hook to carry over the chords and strumming, which i'm not sure if you are intending to do or not.

Also i guess it totally depends on the game you're putting it in. Just a lot of mud when that chorus kicks in

I'm the producer/engineer of the track so I didn't write the main chords, it's a vocal song so the vocal melody is what carries the track and I won't have at that done until the vocalist comes over tonight after work. I wrote the bass line and added the secondary guitar octave riff to the chorus as well as notes on the direction of the drumming. I think I used the TAL Chorus free VST for that chorus effect on the guitar and then a bunch of processing eq and stuff afterwards, it also was recorded through a sansamp RBI. This track of course isn't for a video game but for a vinyl record release bonus track. The original song is just acoustic and vocals from a previous EP. Although I have done video game tracks.

nahh i ended up deleting a bunch from that project, now its a skeleton of its former self
i had an idea for redoing loading into new areas/levels based off of this webm rel i had made, but doing that would've forced me to completely restart everything, cus all of the saving, levels themselves, and a few other things would need drastic changes

i still have the core parts of it, so if i were to restart it'd be possible, but idk. A lot of the game didn't feel focused and it was all over the place, so it'd be a ton of half-baked ideas put together.

Thanks, yeah I tend to gravitate towards a sort of industrial cyber sound when doing video game stuff and I start blending synths and distorted guitar (which somehow always turns into feedback and pinch/regular harmonics). I don't know if that's just the "everything is crab" outcome of blending those things or if it's just my 90s childhood. When I do other types of music like RPG songs or something I always limit myself to a more narrow synth scope.

at the start I would advise to just apply common sense when it comes to the code, building a solid foundation so you don't end up with a ton of copy&pasted code nor a lot of if - else chains. Was originally going to go for an old desktop look for the computer console but anything not abstract looks out of place, so I just decided to put a few rotating donuts in a cylinder and call it a day. During playtesting I had an issue where people were skipping the computer console entirely so they didn't read the story text logs they unlocked after each level, but I finally came up with a possible solution: force players to interact with it to unlock the doors to the next levels.

Personally I think that texturing can be more than opening Substance Painter, especially for more stylized art styles.
Rigging is a better example as most people rely on automatic weights and dislike weight painting.

Yeah texturing can be more if you need it to be, especially a stylized game but for some stuff you can already get away with "x texture" google search results or simple things within blender etc. So going to AI and getting a unique texture and slapping it on something or having it do UV unwrap or something could save time I'm sure.

It's a fight that never made sense. Textures are pretty much universal like, a brick is gonna be a brick, dirt is gonna be dirt. There's ways to differentiate what you're doing and the output can change as well with how you are actually using the final assets but a random base line png isn't really important. In fact, multiple times I've used pictures I've taken in real life as the start for a texture because it's just fucking easier. Having AI morph a unique new "tree bark" or whatever isn't a bad thing it's just saving time.

Looks good but the moment the stone falls which starts the transformation is way way too understated, I even missed it the first time watching it. I get that since it's interruptible and the stone is not part of a single animation but rather its own separate entity it falls with gravity, but maybe it should only do so if you're interrupted, while if not it could follow a more "explosive" sequence. That goes for the actual transformation too, it's a 5 second build-up but when it actually happens it's pretty subdued, making it more explosive would feel like a better payoff to the 5 seconds you just risked. It could even do actual damage/knockback, then at least you know that you invest 5 seconds but if you do manage to pull it off you get some breathing room.

Also this almost certainly looks better when actually playing than in a shitty compressed 4mb webm (hiromoot is a fag) but 80% of the visual is taken up by the rocks, I can see the water, fire, and some air going into it but maybe they should be more prominent so it really looks like it's 4 elements merging.

The characters remind me of the shadows from Heart of Darkness a bit. Not having detail on them is fine, but that makes the elements even more important. I think your main problem is visual clarity with the background, which looks great but bright as it is makes it hard to see some things, especially some elemental effects. I was going to say that the highlighted area in pic could have darker details BUT your characters are black shapes with outlines so that might make things worse (though it would make light elements like fire, air, and even water pop way more).
