PC handhelds aren't portable, the switch isn't either.
Vita could actually fit into any bag reasonable, and if you had an inner jacket pocket, it could fit in there fine.
3DS/Vita were the last handheld generation.

The current state of the market are just glorified tablets.

I recently bought a 2000 model, and I’d like to know what kinds of ports people are bringing to the console. Could anyone recommend some?

To be honest, I’m still figuring out what to play on my Vita, so I’d appreciate any recommendations, whether homebrew or regular games!

Up until N64 get ported to Vita, most recent one being the original Animal Crossing from GameCube if you didn't know the GC Animal Crossing is actually an N64 game
>Unity
Cuphead, Hollow Knight, NITW and others. They are "demanding" ports that require overclocking for good (tolerable) performance
>Android titles
Games that were released on 32-bit Android can be ported to Vita using Flow's so_utils
most of these games are old (since modern titles are arm64), but available list is already insane (GTASA, Bully, Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance, WIP port of Black Ops Zombies, etc)

Since I'm trying to move away from pc it would be a great last piece for everything I'd need. Hacked 3ds, hacked Sony system for PS1/PS2/PSP, and a Switch 2 for modern Nintendo/JRPGs.

not happening, highest you can go is Dreamcast and DS, and DC emulation is spotty at best (Rinne refuses to fucking update it and there's no sign of a proper Flycast port yet despite the fact that builds for it are accessible through the git actions tab)
DS emulation works pretty well for the most part, been enjoying Re:Coded again

the best it can do is Dreamcast

>still has an active community that ports games to the system
From development perspective the device is really fun. Not too weak to be unable to run most open sourced stuff. Not too powerful to run it w/o any work. You still sometimes have to fuck around with memory management, CPU optimization and IO performance.
Device itself is pretty interesting. Two touchpads and a gyro can be used creatively (although those gameplay experiments are still somewhat rare).
Tools and community are pretty great too.
Had lots of fun with Vita while I was making HBs.

>>
>>740013843
I've played Arx but never beaten it. Ironically my last attempt was on the Xbox. Good game for sure. Also I meant the mod for Oblivion, Oldblivion. I think I remember that running on half a gig of RAM.

Strategy games mostly, since I love them.
SDL is the easiest starting point to familiarize itself with SDK, toolchain and their capabilities. Nowadays libc is pretty complete, stuff can be build right away and you just have to figure out controls and other platform related quirks.
Few years ago you had to re-implement a lot of basic libc stuff in the process.. which was kinda fun too I guess.
>>
>>740014276

3 and Vice city are PS2 Classics so it's just emulation so in that case it would need to use RE3/REVC.

oh yeah, for the guys who want a Monster Hunter on Vita, there's either FU or P3rd through PSP emulation, or Frontier's official port
it requires you to find the english patch, pull out the .elf using vita-fself, hex-editing your server's IP into that, and patching it back into the EN patch's eboot.bin.
it'll work with Erupe just fine since that project has PSV support, and I've been able to get to G-rank and beyond with it (picrel is sadly a PC screenshot but you get the point)

i had the plan to make a guide on it, but I'm too lazy, it's still in the initial draft

The first time I had put it against a vase on our kitchen table and was watching anime on it when my mom picked up the vase and the psp fell over.
And just from that it broke and coulnd't be turned on anymore.
I sent it in for repair and when I got it back, they had left dirt under the screen. Also, just three weeks later it broke again, this time seemingly for no reason.

And now used ones are half the price of a new Thor, is there a reason to use the Vita instead?

Not sure if I worded that well, I didn't put the psp onto the vase, I leaned the psp against it so it would stand slightly angled to make it easier to watch videos on it while I ate breakfast.
