Will video games survive the arm PC era
>>
yea but theyll all be mobile games
>>
>>740031296
Why wouldn't they?
>>
I dunno how many ARM native PC games have there been since WinRT released 15 years ago? Zero
>>
>>740031357
so it's a PC game in the current year, got it
>>
>>740031296
considering this piece of shit is going to be expensive and useless? I think it'll be fine.
>>
>>740031296
>arm PC era
isn't ARM just phone shit?
>>
>>740031296
>arm PC era
chat, wtf is that supposed to mean
>>
>>740031858
It’s a computer you wear on your arm, the future is now.

ARM is a type of CPU architecture, kinda like how x86/x64 is a CPU architecture.

Most desktop PCs today use x86-64 CPUs:

Intel Core i5/i7/i9
AMD Ryzen

Most phones and tablets use ARM CPUs:

iPhones
Android phones
Many tablets
Most handhelds

Recently ARM has started invading laptops and desktops:

Apple M1/M2/M3/M4 Macs
Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite laptops
Some Windows ARM PCs

Why people care:

ARM chips are usually more power efficient (less heat, better battery life).
x86 chips traditionally had better software compatibility and gaming support.

The thread is basically arguing:

"If PCs switch to ARM, will PC gaming survive?"

One anon says:

"Sure, why wouldn't it?"

Another says:

"Because nobody writes ARM-native PC games."

Which is only half true. Plenty of games already run on ARM Macs, ARM handhelds, consoles, and phones. The real issue is that Windows gaming has 30+ years of x86 baggage. A huge amount of PC games, launchers, anti-cheats, mods, and middleware expect x86.

The funny thing is that gamers already play tons of ARM games without realizing it:

Nintendo Switch = ARM
iPhone = ARM
Android = ARM
Steam Deck's competitors like many Android handhelds = ARM

So PC gaming won't disappear. The question is whether Windows-on-ARM can get compatibility good enough that your random 2007 jank game, mod loader, and anti-cheat still work.

The anon mentioning WinRT is talking about Microsoft's failed ARM push around 2012. Back then ARM Windows was basically a ghost town. Today it's much more serious because Apple proved ARM laptops can actually slap.
>>
ARM is fine, the problem is decades of shitware legacy code for windows that needs to run on it.
This nvidia shit is cancer though, literally intended for no actual human beings, it's a spambot server, jensen's words not mine.
>>
>>740032343
>x86 chips traditionally had better software compatibility
Well actually that's an inaccuracy.
Software is written with x86 in mind, it's not explicitly better at it.
>>
>>740032343
Holy BASED post
>>
>>740031296
i don't see why not. consoles used to switch CPU architectures every fucking generation, and the industry adapted to it.
switch is ARM, too, so there's no shortage of game devs with ARM experience.
>>
Games can be built natively for ARM, and for those who aren't on ARM we already have FEX. Compatibility is very feasible between the two architectures, anon. It will be fine.
>>
>>740031296
Jensen needs to have his own Luigi moment.
Luigi Mario Bros that is, of course. :^)

i can't believe the highest valued company in the world has this guy as their public face.
he makes a damn fool out of himself every time he opens his mouth.
>>
>>740031296
Shan't be buying the new PC U.
>>
>>740031296
there are no more eras
you will pay to stream games because you will have no other hardware to choose from.

get ready to play all your old games through a bloated translation layer

Thanks, Grok. I boughted Switch 2 with Pokopia, and I will be completely switching to console gaming once PS6 drops. My gut has been telling me for a while to jump the ship.
>>
>>740031296

it's gonna be funny when the AI bubble pops and this guy has to reverse course and suck gamer cock
>>
>>740031296
Yes, nu-PC gaming and console will be fine
The PC uncs who refuse to adapt to nu-PC gaming because ARM will basically be always on DRM for everything will just die out with their current builds.
>>
>>740032343
>can actually slap
You have to go back
>>
>>740031296
You can't play any of your old games on it because the emulation is so slow
>>
>>740031296
Video games aren't even surviving this era
>>
Gotta see how the benchmark of the things are, it'll bring in a new era of cheap and affordable gaming once those come out since ARM is way cheaper.

Once ARM PC is in the mainstream, you can kiss piracy goodbye.
The ARM security system will check if your file or content is licensed or has correct DRM and if false, will refuse to run it.
No one is talking about this.
ARM PC mainstream adoption and to kill piracy forever on PC (media and games) is the true goal.
Then will come subscriptions that you won't be able to opt out of.

Informative post
>>
>>740046652
>buy Chinese cpu and gpu
It’s gonna be a while before it’s mainstream, half of desktop users still are running windows 10

By the time all software companies switch to arm. The Chinese will have a fully developed computer industry
>>
>>740031296
yes because someone, be it microsoft, nvidia, whomever, will have to create a compatibility layer if they drop native x86 hardware
will we lose some performance? probably
but someone's going to make it work
>>

I'm not one of those gamers, because all of these are dogshit. This is just another scheme to make old media inaccessible so they don't have to compete with the quality of the past and feed retards slop unhindered.
