What were they thinking?

>Let's make a new Mega Man on the Gameboy Advance

I find this game great, I got it on my GBA back then and had a nice time

>Let's be innovative and slap in an open world
>We want players to be aggressive, make Aztec Falcon a filter that teaches players to weave in and out constantly
>Let's encourage player choices in upgrades by giving them just enough crystals to pick the ones they REALLY want
>We're making a hack and slash, might as well give it a rank system
>>
>>740035575
>lets make the best megaman game ever
and then they made 3 of them
>>
>>740035575
The best.
>>
why did they make zero sexy
>>
>>740035936
>>Let's be innovative and slap in an open world
It's not even an open world intentionally.
>>We want players to be aggressive, make Aztec Falcon a filter that teaches players to weave in and out constantly
Not only is that a lie but getting aggressive against Aztec Falcon will kill you faster. Being aggressive at all in the Zero series will just get you killed because the enemies that aggro onto you off screen will only give you like a frame to react if you're using the dash button.
>>Let's encourage player choices in upgrades by giving them just enough crystals to pick the ones they REALLY want
The game not only doesn't give you EC that you need but it also punishes you for using any upgrades after you've spent a majority of your play time farming for EC.
>>We're making a hack and slash, might as well give it a rank system
Is it a hack and slash? The first game feels like it wants to try and be some half assed Metroidvania because of the idiotic map design.
>>
>>740035936
>>Let's be innovative and slap in an open world
did we play the same game?
>>
>>740035575
I was amazed when I played the original. I couldn't believe the GBA will get this good of a series.
>>
>>740035575
Inafune was thinking "Finally a chance to make my red OC the main character"
>>
It's crazy how the entire Mega Man franchise and all it's sub-series is dead.
>>
>>740036737
It's getting a game next year.
>>
>>740035575
I don't know but i'm glad they did.
All four games were great
>>
megaman really just got worse with each iteration is crazy
no wonder they stick to the classic series whenever they make a game now
>>
>>740036737
Pretty much every 90s series is dead and only gets remasters and ports now
>>
>>740035575
we need a cool protagonist but give him a diaper because we hate our audience
>>
>GBA releases
>play as Zero
>play as Zero
>play as Zero
>play as Zero
>DS releases
>NEW! play as the fusion of X and Zero, which looks and plays exactly like Zero haha
>>
I've never understood the appeal of MegaMan. I played MM2 and it wasn't all that.
>>
>>740036329
>Being aggressive at all in the Zero series will just get you killed
Aggressive is usually the best way to fight bosses in Zero. For example, a lot of people get filtered by non-final form Copy X and Elpizo 1 specifically because they sit across the stage or off screen when it's actually much easier if you just get in their face since you can easily react to what they're doing. Omega Zero is the same actually now that I think about it.
>>
>>740036915
He had a diaper from the beginning though
>>
>>740036948
In exchange ZXA went back to buster focus
>>
The most insane thing is the hid most of the plot outside of the games in audio dramas. Especially MMZ2 suffers from it.
>>
>>740035575
>Let's make Mega Man X but lame and gay
>>
Goddamn Zero 2 was just peak.

Zero already played like a fusion of X and Zero in the Zero games so not much they could do on the gameplay front there.
>>
>>740037196
elaborate
>>
>>740037196
This is a thing with Japanese media in general, they really like to fill drama CDs with lore and important characterization. Wouldn't be a problem if drama CDs were the least localized/translated media out there.
>>
>>740035575
Game play is great, art direction was made by a pedo with a diaper fetish
>>
>>740037528
weren't the least*
>>
>>740037084
Those are tighty-whitey you fuckin moron.
>>
>>740037000
>Aggressive is usually the best way to fight bosses in Zero.
No it isn't. The best way to fight bosses is to fight them like you would in Megaman X which is about the only time the Zero series actually has fast paced gameplay. Even with that, some bosses just have annoying wait phases like that phoenix boss in 2 which coincidentally these games were made by the X2 devs and X2 is notorious for its shitty bosses that take years to kill.
>>
>>740036737
it has been like 30 years, it had a good run
>>
I think it looks more like a speedo
>>
>>740037578
The only issue i had was the level scoring system.
You need to basically perfect every level to get the elemental skills and if you score poorly on one your score will never recover.
>>
>>740035575
>gaijin wouldn't be so bad at games and struggles with screen ratio, light?
They believed too high of you.
>>
>>740038042
These games didn't sell well in Japan either so.
>>
>>740035575
This game is good though.
>>
>>740037838
In Zero 1 it was worse since plenty of stages had pseudo sneak portions that resulted in less enemies than the required amount for perfect enemy kill scores so you had to farm respawns for a bit before finishing.
>>
I really didn't like that the game included a collectable power up system that had permanent consequences that were important for the lore but then actively punished you for actually engaging with it. Weird choice
>>
>>740035575
damn imagine capcom actually making videogames. nu-capcom would fucking never, those lazy assholes
>>
>>740038616
Z3 does that shit too in a few stages.
>>
>>740038826
Yeah but by then I'm pretty sure the enemy count was adjusted to account for that.
>>
>>740038873
Clearly it isn't if you're still farming enemies by that point in the series.
>>
>>740036329
It's very clearly intentional.
>>
>>740037109
And I love it for that.
>>740037196
What's funny is that for X4 and Z2 half the plot is in side material yet the games work pretty much just fine regardless.
>>
>>740038673
It's not weird at all. It's an incentive to git gud by adding grinding and a narrative consequence to using your power ups. That's really it.
>>
>>740037650
Then you have Gunvolt series which innovated waiting for your enemy to stop being invincible in ways we wouldn't see outside of Fromslop
>>
>>740039175
I don't recall ever having to farm enemies in Z3 for mission score like I did in Z1.
>>
>>740039568
You need to in a few stages like the sunken library.
>>
>>740036569
Yes. Maybe you didn't notice why there's chance for you to roam around.
>>
>>740038542
>muh sold units
Not a argument.
>>
>What if we made Mega Man X but made it 30% more annoying
>Also we'll let some fag redesign everyone for no reason
>>
>>740039894
>Not a argument.
It kinda is.
>>
>>740040106
Not at all. Do you think people that bought it didn't like it and undo the purchase? or that game didn't sell more because nips got filtered by a game they didn't purchase and play?
>>
>>740040485
>Do you think people that bought it didn't like it and undo the purchase?
Yeah people tend to return games they don't like, novel concept I know.
>>
>>740040582
Not a thing in Japan. Also; you're not talking about products owned but digital licenses.
>>
>>740040731
Not sure about that but by this point you're just goalpost moving.
>>
>>740040882
>Not sure about that but by this point you're just goalpost moving.
Don't feign ignorance nor cope; Japan has no physical refunds at the time. What Japan does have is a big reseller culture (You already know this btw). Your "argument" trying to bind quality of a game to its units sold numbers has no weight at all.
>>
>>740039825
The only thing to do when roaming around is farm crystals or weapon exp. It's not like there's much reason to do it.
>>

>>740041050
>mfw triggered a mission without realizing by just roaming around
Also; you don't really need to farm besides the chance for it for skill level ups.

>maxing out the rod in one mission using it like a pogo
>>
>>740041172
You can upgrade the saber by slapping Ciel with it when the golem has her.
>>
>>740041385
That's a more recent discovery also it's very easy to hit the Golem which will die in one hit to the saber so it's not really optimal for a casual's playthrough.
>>
>>740041385
>>740041503
>it's true
damn, they though on that as well
>>
I just didn't use cyber elves. Tough ass game for me.
>>
>>740041793
It's more a bug because Ciel's suppose to be unkillable and she takes some of the hitbox space.
>>
>>740041831
Kinda just a classic MM game desu
>>
>>740041894
I don't get why people say Zero is the hardest series when classic is right there.
>>
>>740041793
You ESLs give way too much credit to Inticreates.
>>
>>740041894
I was bad at those too lol.
>>
>>740042010
I'd say Zero is harder b/c of the bosses and the screen size
>>
>>740042136
I would say classic is harder if we're using handheld screens as an excuse
>>
>>740041831
It's not hard at all. Just need to keep a steady reaction pace and you're golden. Almost every boss can be looped in a pattern if not all, Harpuia is the biggest offender of this

>>740042010
They get filtered by the screen size and they can't adapt to it
>>
>>740042307
It's not even reaction it's memorization.
>>
>>740042307
Oh yeah, I just had to learn the patterns. It was still challenging for me though. Though the greatest challenge was continuing to play the game when I had to babysit an npc. Fucking garbage ass stage. Wasn't even fun. Just tedious.
>>
>>740042493
Bosses don't have more than 3 patterns/attacks, not enough to need memorization
>>
>>740042708
Shut the fuck up nigger.

>>
>>740042978
Nice health and rank, you kill elves more efficiently than you kill enemies.
>>
>>740042865
no.
>>
>>740035575
Mega Man Zero is the best Mega Man series and it isn't even close.
>>
>>740035575
Hardcore gaming.
>>
>>740043157
That webm is probably older than you kid.
>>
>>740043214
I'm here to prove you wrong.

But i can't.

Have a good day
>>
>>740043157
Honestly the ranking system is ass. You don't really get to use the moves from bosses unless you're good but by the time you have a way of keeping your rank high you don't even have a reason to use them because the way you play to get the high rank is better.
>>
Mega Man Zero 5 where you collect cyber elves like Pokemon.
>>
>>
I liked it
>>
amazing game have no idea how i beat it as a kid. because the game is brutal at times
>>
>>740045458
She's so cute
