How much do you use Nintendo Music? What are your favorite soundtracks? What needs to be added? What complaints do you have? I also wasn’t really done with the last thread and I want to talk a bit more….
you made this thread already
>>740031952Also are you still around? Interesting points but I couldn’t reply in time before the last thread died
>>740044520Not very often, but sometimes I'll open it for a bit to relax. My only real complaint is no xenoblade stuff so far.>>740044597Bot reply.
>>740044520>>740044742>Bot reply.No. You literally made this thread earlier today, nobody cares about this shitty app.
>>740044742>no xenoblade stuff so farSaying again that last Friday was exactly the 6th anniversary of XC1 DE and also an update day for the app so it was another perfect time to finally add one Xenoblade soundtrack…..but they added Pikmin instead, sigh
>>740044741Someone actually noticed my autism? Damn, thought it'd be swallowed up by the tides of time after the thread died, yeah still around, I just think the app has some neat stuff goin' for it even if very niche.
>>740045401I wanted to say that the weirdness around the pokemon soundtracks is because so far all the pokemon soundtracks on NM are exact rips of the soundtrack versions with no edits done to the track lengths or to support extendability, unlike every other soundtrack that’s still based on an existing soundtrack release
>>740044520I don't pay their bullshit fees because fuck them.
>>740044520this is my nintendo music
Oh yeah, version 1.6.0 of the app is now released and the app store now has a new screenshot showing Mario Kart World among the games with music on the app, meaning that it should be the next release (and also the next update day falls exactly on the switch 2 and Mario Kart World release anniversary) Which is nice…..but it fucking sucks that the soundtrack will probably not ever be released physically and commercially thanks to this, and that the composer, arranger and performer credits for the soundtrack will never be released either
>>740044520>40% of their tracks are "top tracks"how to lie with statistics
>>740045527>exact rips of the soundtrack versions with no edits done to the track lengths or to support extendability, unlike every other soundtrack that’s still based on an existing soundtrack releaseThat's... Interesting, wonder why they didn't touch up Pokemon given stuff like the Kirby Switch 1 OSTs are also very direct OST rips (i.e. Forgotten Land including tracks like "The Raging Lion Roars (Forgo Leon)" which was specifically mastered for the CD release). Makes the blanket lack of extension support for Pokemon even odder, given if memory serves it's handled the same way the game would handle an OGG, it's not different sound files with different lengths but rather 1 file with the looping section set to repeat for the time extension. All of this stuff is incredibly autistically specific but shit's just fascinating to me, looking in from the outside...
>>740045982It might be because of the more complicated ownership of the Pokemon IP (and thus its music)And about Forgotten Land, did you know that The Battle of Blizzard Bridge and The Beast’s Prey; and specifically only those two FL tracks, are new masters for the app to make them extendable compared to everything else that’s still taken from the soundtrack release?
Why did you make the same thread again?
>>740046414>The Battle of Blizzard Bridge and The Beast’s Prey; and specifically only those two FL tracks, are new mastersShit, they are? Disappointed in myself for not noticing sooner then, I've been listening to the OST since the CD came and then bouncing between that and Music ever since FL was added, what changed about them? I'm guessing the fadeout started too early for a proper loop on the CD version?
>>740044520I wish they released music faster, DK64 music when? It's about to arrive to the virtual console.
>>740045629That is actually super exciting. The World soundtrack is a fucking behemoth, I’ll get a ton of mileage out of the app when that drops. Hopefully it does coincide with a decent update for the game, cause I do really love it, but it’s gotten a little stale. Needs at least some new Ko Tours
And literally right now they added mario kart world music.... incomplete, will update as time passes.
130 tracks from Mario Kart World were just addedhttps://music.nintendo.com/They’ve also added a web player
I wish Nintendo got some licenses for third party SNES games like Lufia/Estpolis Denki. But I understand third parties want to release their own stuff elsewhere.
ahaha faggot
>>740047130I appreciate that they’ve released (part of) the Mario Kart World soundtrack now; but I wanted a physical CD release so badly, and this release method means we will NEVER get the composer credits or performance credits for any of the tracks
>>740047329>physical CD releaseTo be fair... how the fuck would they handle it disc-wise? The biggest one they've done to my knowledge is Tears of the Kingdom and that's 9 discs, how many would you even need for MK World? Would they divide the discs per source game? Don't get me wrong it'd be sick as hell if they did do a physical but the sheer size seems like a logistics nightmare unless they did it in volumes, but I imagine people would be iffy about that.
I just realized that Banjo Kazooie's music is out of question...
>>740047529Yeah that was always a concern, the MK World soundtrack has well over 300 tracks lmao and that sounds difficult to release physically You can look at the Xenoblade Trinity Box for a release of such scale, but this kind of release would also be really expensive (and the trinity box was made to order too)
>>740044742>Bot reply.the fucking irony
>>740047282>>130 tracks from Mario Kart World were just added>look through "All Tracks" listing>it's just the main cup tracks, reoccurring music (menus, results, etc), and the SNES rips (likely due to Super Mario Kart already being on the service)...how fucking huge actually is the soundtrack? I never processed that until right now, jesus
>>740048045In addition to the race track and battle arena themes; there are 116 Mario Kart arrangements and 119 Super Mario arrangements for routes and free roamThe Nintendo Music update added only the 11 arrangements from Super Mario Kart so far
>>740047529TOTK reaches 344 tracks; using the numbers from the Mario Kart World update today; there would be 119 non-free roam/route tracks, followed by 116 Mario Kart series arrangements and then 119 Super Mario series arrangementsThis totals up to 354 tracks so a TOTK-style soundtrack release for Mario Kart World would be possible….But that seems unlikely now, ugh
>>740047587Sadly BK's rights were sold when Rare was bought by Microsoft. A BK soundtrack would have to go through Microsoft's licensing. Though that would be more plausible to do than Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
I wonder if this is how they will do Smash music. Like segregate them by IP. It's one way of avoiding 3rd party licenses.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=3yhshnFDHaEVideo for the new updates
Huh now there's a browser version.
This is so fucking based. Now they should add the music player in Mario Kart World
>>740048431>This totals up to 354 tracks so a TOTK-style soundtrack release for Mario Kart World would be possibleHuh, fair enough there then, maybe they'd bump it up to 10 discs from TotK's 9 if they did it.>….But that seems unlikely now, ughJust gotta be hopeful they'll do it sometime. Given how high effort the Zelda OST releases are for the most part I'm sure they know they very much still have a market for CDs (even if nicher and very Japan-centric). I'm personally just glad SMRPG 2023 did get a disc release. Still wish Paper Mario Origami King got one, damn that game's got great music.
Will rippers use the website now to grab tracks?
>>740048475I know, anon, I know. Also you sound extremely... mechanical, in fact several posts in this thread feel very robotic.
>>740048663>Just gotta be hopeful they'll do it sometimeSplatune 3 Ordertune is literally the only Nintendo soundtrack to have been physically released on CD after the Nintendo Music app released and that was announced before the app released; I’m losing hope That and Pokemon Legends ZA but that isn’t fully controlled by Nintendo..
>>740046738The soundtrack versions have proper endings and don’t work as extendable tracks I thinkThe app versions of those two tracks have notably different track lengths and are in 48kHz instead of the 44.1kHz that tracks reused from previous soundtrack CDs are in (including the rest of FL)
>>740048991Considering the amount of Nintendo music rip channels on Youtube it would not surprise me if Nintendo stops publishing music on physical media in the future to prevent piracy. That said I wish Nintendo would get into music publishing in the US to publish CDs and records here.
>>740044520Why would you ever use this garbage?
>>740048991I mean, to be fair it's not like they were ever too consistent with OST releases (Origami King never got a CD, nor Bowser's Fury, nor Brothership, just going off Mario stuff), so I feel it was always a bit of a tossup whether a game got a CD or not. I imagine Kirby will keep getting them at least (seeing as they just released the 3rd soundtrack for the cafes in Japan), and most likely Splatoon will continue getting them too (seeing the whole "in-universe musicians" angle is aided by having the Splatune releases). Animal Crossing and Zelda I also imagine will continue getting them. We'll just have to wait 'n see how shit develops.
>>740049275>That said I wish Nintendo would get into music publishing in the US to publish CDs and records here.Would be nice but isn't the US music industry notoriously hellish when it comes to rights (even more than Japan's)? I figured that might be part of the reason they don't directly do it overseas, even if it's not particularly hard to import the Japanese releases.
>>740049293https://music.nintendo.com/shared/en-US/US/tracks/285eb026-dad2-4f43-96f3-a5def525d23d/
>>740049436The music industry in the US virtually invented copyright trolling.
I've been listening to Mario Kart Worlds soundtrack during work. There were moments I had to stop working and just listen, because it's just fucking incredible. If you have played any Mario or Mario related game, this shit will blow your mind.https://youtu.be/nfodXxZyCRg
>>740049684It's annoying how you have no control over what tracks play in game
>>740049684>opens with the Mario Drawing songHonestly a bit surprised they called back to this one, it's a very nice arrangement. When was the last time they acknowledged it before World? The Game & Watch? Very neat regardless, they definitely got a lot out of its melody.>>740049768playlist update soon trust the plan
>>740048623They should have a slider of FX and Music.Imagine driving around just listening to that, no engine, yells, whatever.https://youtu.be/FGoQ8SlOVDg
>>740049275>>740049301Another problem I have is composer/arranger and performer credits; did you know that for Skyward Sword, BOTW and TOTK amongst other games; we had NEVER gotten the performer credits for their soundtracks until their soundtracks were officially released? None of the performer credits can be found in the game credits at all and for the Skyward Sword example here we didn’t have them at all until the soundtrack released (ditto for exact per-track credits but the game credits at least have the composers listed)Mario Kart World has a giant soundtrack that was probably worked on by a huge number of performers playing various instruments yet all the game credits say is “Mario Kart Band” for the performers; and with Nintendo Music it’s almost certain the performers for this huge soundtrack will go forever uncredited and I hate that, it’s a huge shame given the quality of the soundtrack and performances
>>740044520Anyone who uses this shit needs serious help.
>>740050405It’s actually very intuitive!
>>740050405>anyone who uses a music app needs serious help???
I wonder how frequently Mario Kart World’s music will be updated lmao
Why would I use this instead of ripping the music directly from the game? I hate the idea of renting music, it's absolute retardation, especially if it requires a proprietary app.
>>740051772Professionally mastered music will always sound better than a rip from the game, game files usually use different formats and always have some form of compression to fit the game
Is anyone listening to the Mario Kart World music that was just added?
>>740051772Mainly the quality (usually better than the game files would be given OGGs are still compressed compared to OST masters) and the looping feature, if you don't care about that much yeah game rips do the job perfectly fine for the most part. I already have NSO so it's more of a nice bonus if anything.
Still waiting for anything Xenoblade to come to the music app, sigh
>>740044520The music for the Photo Channel from the Wii is surprisingly kino desu
GIVE ME THE CUSTOM ROBO OST AND GAME ON THE GAMECUBE NSO NINTENDO YOU USELESS FUCKS
why do tendies like making infographs about everything? is it because of the lack of games to play?
>>740051772How do you plan on doing that, Anon?
>>740057353Nta but there's some tools out there to dump a game's files (like some emulators) and sometimes the music is in a decrypted format like .brstm and .bfstm that just requires a plugin for Foobar to play them. I've done that a few times in the past for some niche 3DS titles that nobody else played so I couldn't rely on uploads for that as well as some Switch games before someone eventually gets around to uploading them.>>740057221Probably so.
>>740051772yeah good luck ripping switch 2 ost
With the new web tool is it easier now to rip the raw Nintendo Music files?
>>740058238they aren't raw either
>>740051965I am a mastering engineer so this app is as basically useless
>>740059194If you've figured out how to rip from the Switch 2 already, then you need to tell the world
>>740057221still seething snoy?
>>740059261No switch 2 OSTs that I care about
>>740059381>I know how to do it but I have nothing to show for itlmao/v/ posters in this hour and day are wild
>no mention of REQUIRING an active membership in the thread.I'll stick to youtube. Fuck this walled garden shit.
>>740059421I did not claim to know how to do that
>>740059276why would I be seething? I had my fun with nintendo during the SNES, N64 and Switch eras. I didn't buy a switch 2 and I never will. I'm hoping what comes next may be worthwhile but I doubt it. I don't feel a need to fill my time with creating infographics though, that's pretty weird
>>740059194I’m curious, if you really are telling the truth do you think the work of people like mastering engineers is underappreciated? A lot of people are involved in creating music from the composers to the arrangers to the orchestrators to the performers, which is all supported by people like schedulers and coordinators and sound engineers (recording, mixing, mastering etc) Nintendo Music completely erases all of that effort by not bothering to show any credits, even especially for a soundtrack as high-effort as Mario Kart World, and it makes the roles and effort of all these people feel even more invisible which I hate
>>740059849It's underappreciated in the video game industry in general, not just Nintendo. It is better appreciated in the music industry itself, somewhat ironically.
>>740059923Again, I feel like what Nintendo Music is doing isn’t helping because physical soundtrack releases always (or usually) used to display more detailed credits, like for example the TOTK soundtrack in addition to the per track composer credits also lists out all the performers as well as all the staff involved in the technical end; like for example Yumiko Yamashita and Toshiyasu Shiozawa of Nippon Columbia are the mastering engineers of this soundtrack Yet of course you see nobody talking about these kinds of roles in music production, and when this soundtrack came to Nintendo Music of course all of these credits were erased even though the Nintendo Music version is the same as this soundtrack version Is this common?
>>740059849The problem is that currently, creative work has become so devalued by Globalization and AI that people don't really care about music anymore. They care about having background noise to silence the voices that threaten their meaningless passive consumption based lives.
>>740060190What sucks is that I care about seeing the people behind the Mario Kart World soundtrack credited properly in all their roles yet literally all we have from the game is >Music LeadAtsuko Asahi>MusicMaasa MiyoshiTakuhiro HondaYutaro Takakuwa>Music ArrangementMasanori SasajiJun AbeShoya KitagawaMaoki YamamotoYoichi MurataJun TomodaKeiji MatsumotoYoshihiro AritaTetsuya OhyamaSatoru ShionoyaTetsuro Toyama>Recording and Mixing EngineeringNobuyuki AoyagiTakehiko Naito>Music Assistant EngineeringChie SatoSo ShiibaAsuka Anazi>Music PerformanceMario Kart BandAt the very least the sound engineers are credited in the staff credits but it sucks that there’s nothing beyond this; especially for the performers because it’s clear the entire ~350 track score was performed live and with huge effort yet the only credit is “Mario Kart Band” (also no recording studio etc) And with Nintendo Music seemingly killing off physical soundtracks, it feels very unlikely that these credits will ever be known; and ditto for future games
>>740060178AFAIK Nintendo owns full copyright of their published music, so legally they can do this if they so choose. I just do not understand why they would want to deliberately leave all their music uncredited. Apps like this are for fans, and said fans would be generally be interested in who was involved with each track. It's possible they had to credit people for physical releases as mechanical copyright is separate to songwriting/composing/recording rights and their legal requirement may have been different for physical release attribution.
>>740060521They would literally need 100 CDs to release a full physical MKWorld soundtrack. That's never gonna happen.
>>740059710I'm not the one thinking that "infographics" is something that would consume so much time, anon>>740060545dependssome games like Rhythm Heaven and Xenoblade have separate music copyright
>>740044520What's even the point of it?
>>740060615>some games like Rhythm Heaven and Xenoblade have separate music copyrightIn what sense?
>>740044520is this thing free or paid?these fags dmcad all the extended versions of the music from youtube
>>740060545It can also just depend on publisher and staff, for example Twilight Princess (HD’s) soundtrack was published by another label and this was all the credit it had, no per-track composer info nor performer credits Compared to this, Nippon Columbia’s Nintendo soundtrack releases have always been top quality in both product/package design as well as included credits
>>740060883Tsunku being the musician that created the music.
>>740060607TOTK is 344 tracks and was released as a 9-disc set; Mario Kart World should be 353 tracks in total, that’s very workable with a 9 or 10-disc set with TOTK’s precedent (even if it’d be a bit expensive given that number of discs)
>>740061167The Japanese still buy and use CDs, believe it or not. It is only the Amerigoy that's streaming-only.
>>740044520Not much because I usually listen to music on my PC. When I'm driving or walking I usually listen to podcasts or commentaries on my phone rather than music.
>>740060883I can explain for Xenoblade (just copy and pasting the explanation I wrote last time):Tracks from Xenoblade 1 and 1DE have composition and arrangement copyrights all owned fully by Nintendo, except for Beyond the Sky and Beyond the Sky (Acoustic Arrangement)Tracks from Xenoblade 2 and 3 have the underlying compositions jointly copyrighted to the respective composer and Septima Ley Co Ltd even if the master recording are owned by Nintendo and Monolith; additionally their rights for specifically streaming are managed by NexTone and not held internally (except for the two tracks The Exhausted Victorious, the Speechless Defeated and Ultimate Enemy whose composition copyrights go to Nintendo and Monolith since they were done by an in-house composer Yutaka Kunigo, but Septima Ley also has a share of that copyright unlike XC1’s tracks)Tracks from Xenoblade X have their composition copyrights owned by Sawano and Legendoor (his former label) and streaming rights managed by JASRAC, again even if the master recordings are owned by Nintendo and MonolithThe new tracks from XDE (2XDLB and Umase’s tracks), unlike OG X, have their composition copyrights jointly owned by the composer (Sawano for 2XDLB and Umase for her tracks) and Septima Ley; with NexTone holding the streaming rights specifically unlike OG XAt least, all this from what I’ve uncovered on my own, take with a grain of salt
So will we actually get proper credits for all the composers now? Still no? Well fuck off then,This is like the only reason I'd be interested, since most games have zero information on this. All the recent Paper Mario soundtracks have been fucking phenomenal, so it would be cool to know who did what. Even tho Yoshito Sekigawa can be recognized from a mile away, he's not the only composer there.
>>740061167I honestly think that these huge track counts just ruin games. If you asked me to name a single track from TOTK, I would seriously struggle. It's 99% ambient slop that adds nothing to the game.
>>740060883most of the sound side having their own company
>>740061627they are credited in their respective games, the app is more for a quick listening
>>740044520I saw they added a web browser version of this so I might at least check it out, not worth downloading a whole ass app for but in browser I may as well give it a look
>>740061794Not an excuse to not credit people for their work.
>>740062706Looking online at discussion about this app; it still baffles me how quickly people decided to just ignore let the huge issue of completely missing music credits in a music app
The new Star Fox tracks are genuinely incredible. Really looking forward to the rest of the OST.Though I am hoping that the next game is a sequel with original tracks instead of just SF64's.Exception would be SF2. Getting something like Surprise Attack remade would be sick.
>>740047282Where's all the free roam tracks, I need those Vanilla Lake and Frappe Snowland tracks.
>>740061041Paid, part of your NSO subscription.
Is buying physical CD soundtracks really that niche of an interest now…?
Now you can bing while you drive.
I wish I had a reason to use it more but I have all the ost downloaded already, evrn the one from that mkw radio are fairly good and ill probably replace it with the one from Music, still thinks it’s a great app I sometimes do listen to the mixes but it's rare. Thing I like the most is the extended mode for most tracks
Now that the web browser version is out; please is there a resource to find the ripped files from Nintendo Music?
>>740069860bump for same question.
>>740067357Actually kinda cool.
I read that a place called Squid Board has the raw files already but I’m not sure which site this is; any link?
Bumping for more updates about if the tracks are more easily rippable now
LmaoFucking tendies are the only people that would post topics about what music their friends allow them to listen to that week. Who uses this app outside of you subhumans?
>>740066395>Is buying physical CD soundtracks really that niche of an interest now…?Unless you're Japanese, so it would seem, which is definitely a shame. At leats it's not the hardest thing to import but still annoying there's hoops at all...>>740064612>Exception would be SF2. Getting something like Surprise Attack remade would be sick.I think I honestly like Surprise Attack better than the 64 Star Wolf theme, makes me wish it would've gotten a remix for Smash Ultimate or something like that given the SNES Mini (and 2's official release by extension) came out a year before
>>740075754>At leats it's not the hardest thing to import but still annoying there's hoops at all...They’re still easy to purchase and I’ve been doing so for years, it would really suck if Nintendo-related stuff just stopped coming out on CD….but that’s pretty much already happened, argh
>>740053448I have been listening to the OST for months nowhttps://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/album/mario-kart-world-gamerip-2025
>>740076359At least there's the discs included with the collector's editions, right? Last one I got was Emio while I was in Japan and that one came with 2 CDs, I can only imagine they'll continue doing stuff like that. Though, even then it's a tossup what kind of disc release a collector's edition will include... Some have the full OST, some just a Sound Selection. Really wish CD stuff wasn't so niche in general. Still holding out hope they'll do more disc releases though.
Was it autism?
