Could modern /v/ beat the original "git gud" trinity?
old /v/ was full of casuals toodon't lie unc, we have seen the old top 100s
sure they're only like 40 minutes long at most and you just memorize a few patterns. problem is they're just boring.
>>740049652You can beat all of these games except battletoads in like 3 hours of practice
A 5 year old could beat Castlevania and a 10 year old could beat Ninja Gaiden. A 15 year old could beat Battletoads
>>740049652Yes. There's also way harder than NG and CV but most people don't even care to look into the NES library. Adventure Island, Solomon's Key and Ikari Warriors are the true trinity of NES difficulty. Of those up there only Battletoads comes close to AI and SK. Absolutely nothing comes anywhere close to Ikari Warriors
Nobody can beat Battletoads without a game genie. The others aren't that hard
I beat Battletoads when I was fucking 8 years old. And can no longer do so at 38
>>740049652I play through these all the time.
>>740049652Modern /v/ermin can't even play 6th gen and below without abusing save states.
>>740049652i beat castlevania as a kid, even though it took a lot of time. as in, years of off and on retries. never beat battletoads, but it was partly because everything after the speeders just wasnt fun enough to try over and over. i never owned ninja gaiden and didnt play it until years past the point i would care enough to grind it out.
>>740049743Massive cope + don't LARP you embarrassing sperg
>>740051140I have a theory that people are getting the difficulty of these games bizarrely wrong in ways that will make zero sense because they're cheating through them with save states now and hiding it. But it ends up being obvious in how nonsensical their final opinion is because they aren't starting the game over when they die. They'll say off the wall stupid shit like Castlevania 1 is harder than US Ninja Gaiden 3 because they're cheating and have no idea the difference between Ninja Gaiden 3 sending you back to the title after 5 credits and CV1 allowing infinite checkpoints. They're playing neither under the in game rules. And then vomiting nonsense to people that actually played them.
>>740049652I'm a too old to be here fag and beat the first 2 as a kid. Never owned, rented or played Ninja Gaiden, though. But if I beat the first 2, along with Zelda 2 which everyone says is hard, I'm guessing my chances of beating it would be good?
>>740049652I've only beaten castlevania. the other two are insanely hard for me.
>>740051730you only beat battletoads because you cheated and used warps
I played through them on my dsi with a flash cart in science class in like 10th grade
Beat CV1 and Gaiden, but I kneel, because I can't fucking beat Battletoads. It's not a meme, it's not a joke. Battletoads on NES is real shit.
Ninja Gaiden isn't even that hard, it doesn't get difficult until the last couple of levels and then the final boss
>>740051769I didn't. I despised using warps. You miss some of the most fun levels in the game. I liked the snow level (level 4). I refused to even use warps in Mario 3. I never understood the appeal. Even if you think it counts as 'beating it', you're still skipping content. Games back then were fairly short, why would you pay for a game just to skip content? Never made any sense to me. At least if you use a cheat to make yourself invincible, you still experience the content. But outright skipping is retarded. Hell, it's been awhile, but isn't there a warp on level 1? If you skip level 2, you miss out on the best place to acquire extra lives. I did often farm a lot of extra lives on level 2, though. But that's part of the game as far as I'm concerned. It requires a level of skill to hit each bird enough times to get an extra life and the game was designed with that in mind so I don't consider that cheating.
>>740049652Hit a brick wall in Castlevania on Death. Never played toads. Ninja Gaiden gets impossible at like the fourth or fifth level (The one with the swamp.)
>>740051363says the unctroon larping as a hardcore gamer lmaotouch grass
>>740049652>CastlevaniaPretty easy, it's really just the Grim Reaper that's tough, and even that can be beaten easily with an exploit if you get good enough at the rest of the level.>Ninja GaidenNot easy but once you find your "path" for a level you're basically golden. It helps that spin-slash is broken and you can kill half the bosses in one hit with it. I beat it for the first time recently and the biggest headache was the final boss sending you to the beginning of act 6 every time you die. It wears on your patience to have to do 6-2 multiple times.>BattletoadsI've actually never played it, it's one of the only major NES games I didn't try out when I was 12So, maybe.
>>740049652>Uses save statesPsshhh nothing personnel kiddo
>>7400496522 out of 3
>>740049652Nothing is unbeatable with infinite continuesSo probably not battletoads lmao but I beat the other two as a zoomie recentlyI also beat NG2 but skipped NG3 as soon as I saw there were limited continues and autoscrollers (fucking hate those)
>>740049652I've beaten Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. I probably could beat Battletoads if I put enough time in to it, since I've gotten close before, but I haven't quite pulled it off. It's far more difficult than the other two.Even old /v/ was full of people who seriously struggled with generic JRPGs, though. /v/ used to be more full of enthusiasts rather than people who only play mainstream games, but at no point has the average poster ever been particularly skilled.
>>740049652I am too shit to get through the Grim Reaper's hallway and himself in Castlevania
The hallways before Death is where I broke and used save states
>>740049652I can beat CV1 in like 15 minutes no problem.Never played Battletoads.I can beat Ninja Gaiden up to the final boss.
>>740049652I would argue Ghosts and Goblins belongs in this top 3, but I don't know what I'd remove to make room for it. Maybe a quartet?
>>740053912That's gotta hurt. If you believe in light save state use, you could just use it to practice the final boss and then when you feel confident you can play from start to finish without save states.
>>740054437The problem is that they force you to fight 3 consecutive shitty bosses with no health refill and if you die you start from the beginning of the stage.
/v/ and modern gamers can't even beat NES Mario or Megaman without savestates
>>740049652I've beaten CV1 but fuck I hated the last two stages. I've gotten to the final checkpoint in battletoads but ate shit right after. I've beaten NG1. No savestates for any of those, but I did use continues. Fuck, I almost want to boot back up battletoads but my physical cart shat itself and that just kinda demotivated me a lot even though I normally just emulate.
>>740049652I beat Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. I could not beat Battletoads though and I probably never will. I don't think is a good enough game anyway for me to want to git gud at it. So fuck it.
>>740051363boomer got called out lmao
Where does Zelda 2 and Ghosts and Goblins fit in with those 3?
>>740049652I'll say it. Castlevania 2 is the best classicvania
>>740049652ive beat battletoads (no save states or rewind, obviously) but have no desire to play ninja gaiden, or really any castlevania game.
>>740055081Zelda 2 isn't really all that tough, but I might would still rank it as more difficult than Castlevania 1.Ghosts n' Goblins is is harder than Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden. It's still not nearly as hard as it first appears, though, and it becomes pretty manageable with a bit of practice. Battletoads is as hard as it is in part because practically every other stage is focused on a new, brutally unforgiving gimmick, and getting good at the earlier stages doesn't do much to prepare you for the later ones. Once you start getting good at something like Ghosts n' Goblins, that experience actually serves you well for the entirety of the game.>>740055174There are things I like about it, but the level design sucks, some of the puzzles are overly obtuse, and the bosses aren't very good despite there only being three of them.
>>740049652Castlevania yes.Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden aren't worth playing.Ninja Gaiden 3 (J) is infinitely superior to the first 2. The localizers ruined the USA version so make sure you play the Jap one.>>740055081GnG on NES is one of the worst ports in existence. It was so bad it forced Capcom to stop outsourcing their games and start doing them in-house.>>740055174I agree, it's my fave.
>>740049652Games really tried to be badass back then.
Of course. I do it for fun all the time. Battletoads is legitimately one of the best games ever made.>>740055174You should play Infernax.
>>740049652Castlevania is much easier than the other two games here. I've beat it in one sitting before. Ninja Gaiden is a jump in difficulty, I've also beat that and it's still doable though the final boss death thing is TRULY nasty and unfair. Battletoads, nope, can't do it.
>>740055081Zelda 2 is harder than Castlevania, but if you grind a lot and can consult a guide if you get truly stumped in a dungeon, it's doable. Ghosts n Goblins original arcade version is probably easier than Zelda 2, but the NES version is harder than all three games OP listed.
>>740049652I've beaten Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. I haven't gotten around to beating battletoads. Maybe I'll play it after finishing Rocketknight Adventures.
play this shit if you want something difficult, shame its only difficult cause it punishes fast reactions by eating your jump inputs.
>>740061784>Extra lives cheat on the first screenThey knew. Anyway I wasn't impressed, it's just know what to do and when to do it and a lot of tedious menu:ing. That face gauntlet near the end was rough but doable.
>>740061520This is because every stage in Battletoads is something completely new, so even if you master level 3, with level 4 you're still a beginner. You have to individually master every single level to beat Battletoads.
>>740049652I beat both Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden NES trilogy.
>>740049652I've beaten castlevania without save states. The other 2 don't interest me
>>740049652I can't even beat Zelda which is considered an easier NES game
>>740060424I beath both Ninja Gaiden 3 versions. USA Ninja Gaiden 3 is hard but with enough practice it becomes a walk in the park.
>>740049652No, I couldn't even beat Battletoads back in the 90s and I owned it and played the shit out of it. I could beat the hoverbikes; but I never got close to beating the whole game.
Castlevania is mostly about the shitty rigid jumps and knowing what sub weapon is actually goodNinjagaiden is a lot of muscle memory and once again abusing some sub weaponsBattletoads controls are really shitty, the perspective for jumps is super shit, and after level 2 practically all enemies and traps are instant death. You also need to learn many full levels frame by frame, the 3 races, the bomb, the snakes, the lawnmower. Overall the game is a torture
>>740064730sounds like battletoads is only hard because it's a shit game
>It seems to me like every time I manage to beat a "super hard" game, it suddenly turns out to be "not difficult". I have beaten the NES versions of Ghosts'n Goblins, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, BattleToads and Silver Surfer, and that online flash game The World's Hardest Game in one sitting without cheating in any way, so I guess that means all of those games are suddenly considered "easy" now. What do people generally consider "hard" games, anyway? Games that cannot be beaten? Or games that are so poorly programmed that the challenge lies in overcoming glitches and poor controls, like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and Dragon's Lair? I want to be able to say to myself that I have beaten a game that actually is hard, not just a game that "someone thought" was hard, but that "wasn't actually" hard.
>>740064767On the nes at least. I think some other versions are "better" but it was never a great game for sure, especially compared to the turtles beat’em all
>>740064881Who are you quoting?
>>740065194some guy on gamefaqs
>>740049652I've beaten Battletoads without using warps. Never given the other two games a proper try, like i've played them but usually just the first level. Can't imagine they're that hard to beat. Battletoads isn't that hard either once you get used to Turbo Tunnel the only other hard level is Rat Race.
They're good games, but they feel too long for how difficult they are. My zoomer brain can't take the limited amount of lives. It really does suck ass when you are super deep into a game and have to restart the whole thing because the fucking clinger winger outran you by 1 pixel.
>>740062443it's really more like 5-6 different kinds of stages they rotate between. >Beat 'em up (stage 1, 4, 8, 9, 12)>rappelling (stage 2)>vehicle obstacle course (stage 3, 5, 7)>extremely bullshit platforming (Stage 6)>Rat Race (stage 10)>Clinger Winger (stage 11)
>>740064767nah, anon is just shit at it. the game isn't anywhere near as unforgiving as he makes it sounds. you don't need to learn "frame by frame" to get through any of the races, you just need to learn basic pattern recognition. The snakes are the only actual bullshit section, which is why they give you a warp in the second room of that level.
>>740049652Man the newest Battletoads is so much better of a game than the old turds it's not even funny anymore.
>>740049652I could never beat these games. Compared to these Megaman, Mario, Ninja Turtles, etc. are so easy.
