or am I playing it wrong/have a suboptimal gameplay loop? every boss despite being slower than most action rpgs I've played, takes me more time to beat and forces me to learn the moveset. It's not like I don't enjoy it, quite the opposite, but I didn't expect it to be more taxing than every fromsoft entry (didn't play ER yet) + Nioh 1/2.I try to perfect block most of the time and rarely dodge, in order to break poise and maximise DPS. Yes I know how P Organ synergies work. Currently I'm using the first boss sword that scales on STR. Equip load is under 60%. It's not like a specific boss is hard, it's every single one that takes me more than I expect to make it through. I crafted my own build without any guides so it might not be optimal. At King of Puppets right now btw. Please use spoilers for anything past that, but feel free to talk about the gameplay mechanics.
Use the grapping arm jump attack
>>740061857>I try to perfect block most of the time and rarely dodge,This is your problem.Lies of P's Perfect Block window is smaller than the smallest Fromsoft Parry window in Sekiro, and spamming it to try and get lucky actually closes the window entirely and just gives you the animation. In contrast, Lies of P's Dodge is extremely forgiving, as the Iframes, afaik, start inmediately right along with the animation. This isn't a parry game, it's a dodge game with a really good yet equally risky parry mechanic.
>>740061857Further information: I started with Development build with coil stick, then I respecced into STR because I wanted to have a big slow weapon for once. I usually choose fast, nimble weapons and rely on dodging with light armor rather than heavy armor block. I figured since the main mechanic of the game is perfect block I'd go for a heavier, tanky build. My capacity is good enough to have the heaviest armor on. Damage feels ok. Thing is, the game is "slower" than most so bossfights take more time per attempt. Of course if you always perfect block them and break their poise every half a minute they can be quick, but it takes a lot to achieve that. Maybe I'm trying to block too much, but dodge and movement feels so off in this game, so I thought parry was the intended way to play this most of the time.
>>740061857I fell into this trap of trying to perfect block everything. Use your dodge more. Only perfect block those attacks you're 100% confident in receiving or the red attacks. It's not worth it otherwise.
>>740061857Lies of P is modern Souls slop. Instead of focusing on adventuring, dungeon crawling, and being just an RPG where bosses are just parts of the environment, it's just a hallway boss-rush game. It's shit and boring.
>>740062245filtered little bitch lol
The bosses in lies of P actually have pretty small health bars, relatively speakingThe posture system makes it very easy to "snowball" once you're adequate at landing attacks consistently, but you do have to be relentless with both landing charged attacks and small hits to make sure it doesn't go downAlso make sure you're not playing into a bosses strength, weaknesses make a significant difference in how long it takesHaving a fable art that lets you force the posture break with hyper armor is good too, avoids the dance of waiting for an opportunity to land a charged heavyThis >>740062061 guy is also partially right, yes parrying builds posture damage, but sometimes you get much more posture damage by dodging something pre-emptively and giving yourself room for a charged attackOr dodging something that would otherwise give you a big knockback on parryThat's all I can think of, good luck
>>740062245Dark Souls 1 and 2 are the only games with good dungeon crawling, under your definition, Demon Souls is Soulslop.
>>740062308Nah. Demons Souls is peak old school dungeon crawling the veins of early 3D action games like Deathtrap Dungeon or Die by the sword.
The game became easy once I picked a fast weapon and started dodging. Finished the game and dlc with the umbrella you get from the dog trader. It consumes very little stamina and I just spammed attack until the very last moment and then I dodged. Also memorize what type of enemy is weak to what and use your buff that replenishes at bonfires
Why can't From make good gank bosses when LoP aced them on first try?
>>740062061>>740062136I see, but attacking and dodging feels so clunky that I thought I had to avoid it>>740062245I like it>>740062295ok for some reason I thought that without parries you couldn't reliably stagger enemies, I will focus on never letting down the pressure>>740062492that's what I want to reserve for last because that's how I play these games normally and I wanted a change, but if nothing works I'll probably do that.I feel like this game offers you a lot of playstyle flexibility, and for faster light weapons it's probably "empty power cell" builds, they look pretty op on paper. I wanted to lean on a "more power cell" + "missing health recovery" + parry build but it might not be as good. What I'm missing is something to enhance block and parry like the Fuoco ring
>>740061857King of Puppets is the game's "git gud" boss, or at least it was for me. But yeah the bosses are supposed to be hard. IMO they get easier after King of Puppets but maybe that's just because he forced me to up my game.
>>740062760Parries help, and you can theoretically win the game just by doing them, but there are some attacks that will knock you back miles if you parry them while giving you multiple opportunities for a charged attack if you dodge themDon't tunnel vision one option if you feel it's not adequately paying off
>>740061857Like the others said, use all your defensive options. Perfect guard, regular guard, dodging and running all have their uses. Also, don't hesitate to use your attack items. The shot put is particularly useful.
>>740062760Generally the lighter the weapon the worse your block is, the more compulsory parrying becomesThey do tend to come with really strong defensive fable arts though, to compensate
>>740062760The dodge definitely feels clunky at first but you do get used to it.
>>740062593Because it would require effort. Here's a room full of npc summons instead. You like shadows of the Erdtree right?
>>740062760Dodge is very strong when used as spacing tool, red attacks ignoring iframes doesn't matter if they can't reach you
>>740061857easiest roll slop I've ever beaten
You should try wuchang, axe(heavy weapon) feels very good there
>>740062245>muh dungeon crawlingbuzzslop
There are many ways to play lies of p until you reach the final boss of the dlc and then the game invites you to sit on a cuck chair and watch the boss do combos until he literally gets tired of hitting you and then its your turn to do the critical strike and then back to the cuck chair
well to beat Rabbits I had to switch to light equip load and used dodge a lot against the smaller guys and for some attacks of the big oneStill, the feel of beating a boss after learning how to counteract its moves feels so good. Nioh bosses I just DPS rushed and spammed dodge block and even if it was fun I felt like I didn't earn it.
Anyone else feel like Lies of P is a bit bloated when it comes to mechanics? I'm about halfway through the game and there's so many systems I just never engage with.
>>740063295I forgot about my mecha hand and only used it on humanoid sheep with a hammer in the dlc because I was really struggling
>>740062308Wuchang and AI Limit are both games that do it well
>>740061857Welcome to 'modern' soulslike design which is just a boss rush with corridors in betweenThe bosses aren't THAT hard but everything else is a joke
>>740063493AI Limit is the best souls game since Dark Souls 1.
Nigga dodge is overpowered in this game and you're a chump if you use it. Leave it as the last of last resorts.Just press parry on time. Yeah, it's hard. Le get good.
>>740062061Wrong its definitely a Parry game
Is this worth getting?I heard good things, I tried the demo but it felt clunky
>>740063871It rivals the great soulslops
>>740063295It's a roleplaying game, you choose what you want to use
>>740063871It is best Soulslike, From lost the plot
>>740061857They nerfed this entire game into the dirt OP. Lies of P is a pathetic shadow of what it once was. The dlc in particular is a joke. I got curious because I saw a streamer playing like a retard and progressing easily through the game so I rebooted it and started a fresh save. I was appalled at what they did to my boy. Lies of P is now on the level of ds2 difficulty at its hardest.
>>740063871It's good at the start but becomes a slog that will make you hate it later
>>740064249This is literally the polar opposite of the truth. The start is by far the worst part of the game and it only gets better the further you go in.
ENTER
Lies of P is runslop
>>740061857the game is inherently trial and error in some ways that souls games usually arent. This causes a weird thing to happen where the souls vet boss rush enjoyers who enjoy trial and error soi face over the game because they have shit taste and the shitters are right for once about the game being stupid.
>oooohhh the boss is attacking me a again, better block it>oops thats not any attack thats a grab. well there goes 90% of my HP in one hit, ill have to remember for next time that when the arm is bent at a 85 degree angle its a regular attack and when its bent at 75 degree angle its an unblockable grabyou can tell so much of the souls "fanbase" are fags because they call lies of P the best soulslike because of the femboy protag despite its combat being mid as fuck.
>>740064437Bizarre copium "Shitters" would just summon the NPCs are cruise through the game without caring a bit The only people who get mad are the ones who think a decade of playing soulslop immediately qualifies them for a no hit run in lies of P
Pretty easy actually if you're a souls veteran. But BOY you don't know what pain is.This mf could make Arlechino cry.
>>740062593From's issue is not the boss design but rather how terribly clunky the combat system is. They are basically 15 years behind the competitors.
>>740064569>they actually gave a unique model and attacks to a simple one-off enemy you never see againThe DLC is full of cool shit like this.
>>740064658It's funny because they can do better combat systems as you find in Bloodborne, Sekiro and AC6 but they just don't bother with DS and ER.
>>740061857my brother (normie has a wife and 2 children) beats that in a day maybe you just suck?
>>740065017the game takes like 30 hours to beat man is your brother neglecting his family?
>>740065162he said didn't take that long also had 2 days off his family.
bloodborne will never be topped
>>740065162>the game takes like 30 hours to beat man>1hour and 30minhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGIX_UzIpMAmaybe you just suck?
>>740065276idk that doesn't seem representative...
>>740065276Speedruns aren't representative of a game's length you fucking retard, or Morrowind would be considered a four minute long game.
>>740065352>bethesda game so bad you can finish it in 4minlol
Arlecchino was a fantastic final boss. I'd say the phase transition cutscene was as good as Ludwig's.
>>740065453just looked it up. that was so cringe. it's like if Micolash was the final boss of bloodborne
>>740065797>that thing you like, actually it was bad and you're a stinky doodoo headYou need to be 18+ to post here
>>740064529Which enemy are you specifically talking about? If it's Scrapped Watchman he only grabs with his left hand. If he winds up the left slowly then it's a grab, just dodge it.
>>740065843Uh. I mean YOUR left. The hand on the left side of your screen. So HIS right hand.
>>740061857Yes, they're meant to have unintuitive patterns and animation timings to kill you over and over again. It's just rote memorization, the only real challenge is figuring out which moves should be parried and which should be dodged
How does dlc work, narratively? I heard it's a prequel, do I need to start a new game to play it?
>>740065896>Enemy strikes with his left>Then with his right>Then left againSeems pretty intuitive to me.
>>740065827>>that thing you like, actually it was bad and you're a stinky doodoo headi didn't say that
>>740065896Memorization is a trainable skill.
>>740065985>anon says thing is great>"um actually I just looked it up(no you didn't) and it sucks actually"Only a 12 year old would post like this.
Why did Gepetto make him so zesty?
>>740065991and it's a boring waste of timeOG Souls games were good precisely because you didn't have to memorize much. challenges were intuitive even on a 1st try
>>740066079He modeled him after his son
>>740066089I don't like to turn my off my brain like that when I play games.
>>740066079Wouldn't you?
>>740066090Why was his son so zesty?
>>740066163I would but that's besides the point.
>>740066189Zesty genes
>>740061857The combat system is notorious for two reasons:>Poor on-boarding in all the mechanics.>Simple and to a degree vital combat upgrades gated behind Quartz and later NG+ rounds.I've played through the game a ton of times and my biggest gripe always is that first round. It isn't even about it being challenging, it's that you're gated from a lot of options that make a lot of encounters much more fun like the Perfect Guard Destruction bonus and multiple Legion Arms. Beyond that i think Lies of P is fantastic for what it is, it's just filled with non-sensical stuff. Like who the fuck actually thinks the Gold Coin Tree is fun?
>>740062061Blocking is the most reliable defensive option.
Lies of P reminded me that Souls games could have been so much better mechanically than what they went for with Elden Ring. I did find a weapon I really loved early on and struggled to stick with anything else for long though, unless the boss fight was fast enough to feel like a duel, at which point the rapier came back out. Also the first few sections up until the cathedral felt a bit samey, but after that it really picks up and only really drops back down a bit at the very end.But it had such a well balanced set of combat systems and none of the bosses ever felt like bullshit to me. I always felt like I had multiple ways to counter boss attacks and that my deaths were usually from impatience. And then knowing there's a parry mechanic that could allow me to do DMC Royal Guard style hitless runs if I take time to master it sick as fuck. Also, idk, I just really loved it's Pinnoccio + alchemy + gnosticism setting.
>>740061857Just turn on easy modo, devs specifically added it in for people like you.
>>740062061lol dodging will ruin every stalker including romeo. if u cheese the game like this u cant complain about mimic tear users.
>>740066764It's kind of funny nobody talks that Link-Dodge exists too, so for some builds there honestly is barely any reason to do much Perfect Guarding, except in maybe completely obvious cases like Door Guardian or the other bosses and enemies that have ridiculously easy parry windows.
>>740061857I’m stuck on the final boss and on the kinda duo one in the aviary in DLC. Tips?
>>740066843For reference I had to summon for Laxasia after getting killed so many times in phase 2 so maybe I just suck
>Beaten the game three times>Only weapon I use is the great sword of fateAm I boring? It just everything I want. You can stab endlessly of you can slash endlessly.
>>740061857The hardest part about the game is trying not to get distracted by all the hot characters
>>740066843During the duo fight, the color of the string shows which one will be attacking. Try to time a kill on the puppet to happen around 50% health on the main boss. Phase 2 will be delayed until the puppet has healed. A shorter phase 2 will make the fight notably easier.
>>740065927Time travel. You can't access it until after the raid on the hotel.
