it always made perfect sense to me that combat styles were a spectrum. melee is the most accessible and simple, but it requires sustain (prayer / food) and lacks utility. melee is the most resource-intensive, and something that you want to use when the cost of runes is outweighed by the cost of supplies or the benefit you get from using it. ranged is a happy medium between the two. this made sense to me even as a child.

also, leagues exists now if you want that mage main style power fantasy.

Sailing was meant to be an enormous content drop that expanded on the world and made things more interconnected, instead you just afk it like literally everything else and never engage with 90% of the content it has because ironmen or some shit.
That really bothered me, I voted for sailing, but I was expecting WAY more from its launch. It STILL feels barebones as we get near a year later.

The bigger thing for me though is that there just haven't been meaningful updates since sailing. A very small number of novelty quests (cow quest was actually kinda cute and I like it as an introduction to bosses conceptually), and a whooooooooooole lot of seasonal slop that has 0 relevance to the game at large. They're wasting significant portions of their dev time on shit like leagues and DMM when they barely hold users after day 4. Bingo, leagues, DMM, seems like there's almost always one of them running, and it's significantly hurting the main game due to it. I think they served their purpose. If they're running constantly it just makes people stop playing the main game, and they progress so fast it burns most new players out.

I'm still mad at sailing. Sailing as it was supposed to be around the zeah release would have made zeah an interesting landmass where you had to travel islands to interact with the houses instead of being in lava mcfirehotland one tile then icy snow wintertodt land the next. Just 0 cohesion. It's slightly better now but you can STILL see it, even after all the revisions, how it was meant to be an archipelago.
Sailing released with nothing like that. a bunch of small islands you visit for 30 seconds and nothing more. IT should have been held back for raids 4.
