Are the yakuza games worth playing if i dont care about the casino minigames and wacky sidequests about toy cars or whatever and just want a good crime drama and fun combat?
>>740075154Yes, but some substories are really fun
>>740075154Not really
>>740075154you can ignore all that EXCEPT MAHJONG
>>740075154No, you can't enjoy some japanese tattoo models manly grieving about the loss of his friend if you didn't beat up some diaperfags during their ageplay session 15 minutes prior.
>>740075154>good crime dramaevery single yakuza story is fucking retarded>inb4 some faggot "x game r-ruined the plot"ALL OF THEM ARE AWFUL
>>740075154Good crime drama is questionable but yeah generally you don't have to engage in side contents, I usually skip them if they don't interest me enough, these games are already long enough.
I feel like majority of the stories start somewhat well, but by the end the amount of crazy coincidences or dragged on bits can be hilariously bad. Earlier Yakuza's are still my favourites, 0 being included in that. LAD was a decent entry too.
What's wrong with nu-Kuza fans?
>start Kiwami 2>everyone acts like Kiryu is this wise old mentor they all should look up to>he just a meathead that solves every single problem by punching it and cant form sentences with more than 5 wordsCant tell if this was intentional or not.
>>740075154>Yakuza>good crime dramaThe appeal of the Yakuza games is that they're a little bit of everything. If you're only interested in serious plots then you'll only enjoy maybe 10% of the series.
The stories are soap opera level, the only one that stands out is Yakuza 0, which is soapy as well but not as much.
>>740075154Yes but not all of them are worth playing.First of all, skip all the Kiwami games. They fucking suck ass. Yakuza Gaiden and Pirate Yakuza are also dogshite. Rest of the mainline ones are fine to play, but you seem like a zoomer so maybe skip 7 and 8 since they're turn-based, and PS2 versions of 1 and 2 might also be too much for you.
>crime dramaThere are some dramatic crimes
>>740076270In a nation of effete cowards the gorilla man is king.
I just finished Yakuza 0 last night. I think they should have killed Makoto to cement Majima's transition from straight man to Mad Dog. I get that he was upset over being used repeatedly by higher powers throughout the course of his story but he still seems rather measured right up until the end. Having the woman he did everything to protect die in front of him would have sold the "Mom's gonna freak!" transformation better in my opinion
>>740075154>if i dont care about the casino minigames and wacky sidequestsYou are expected to play all aspects of the game. Substories, minigames, the main story, and roaming around for virtual tourism. If you are only going to do the main story you likely will not enjoy it as the series is paced and structured expecting you to play all content equally, not just rush the main story. Rushing the main story means hours upon hours of cutscenes slammed at you headfirst. The complaints people have about MGS4's cutscenes and their length are a normal day for Yakuza. Yakuza 3 for example has an entire chapter where there is no combat outside of the last five minutes and the entire thing is spent watching cutscenes or exposition. 7 and JE also do this.>good crime dramaIt is a j-drama. Each game is functionally a playable season of a j-drama, ridiculous twists and all. If you for a single second think it's a crime drama you will be disappointed because it is not that.>fun combatThe combat is fun due to how freeform it is, but if you are expecting something super in-depth or difficult this isn't the series for you. You are outright required not to use specific aspects of Kiryu's moveset like the Tiger Drop, not get damage upgrades in cases like Lost Judgment, 8 Gaiden, and Kiwami 3 or you massacre even bosses, ignore grabs and Heat Actions in 6, not use Gunman or Wild Dancer outside of the Battle Dungeon in Ishin Kiwami, not using Boxing at all in LJ, not use Extracts at all in JE or LJ, etc. There are so many easy ways to completely trivialize each game's difficulty with very little effort.
The new one looks like it will have amazing combat, I hope its well utilized
>>740076270He survived some SHIT in the first game>KiwamiFucking cut content.
>>740075154how the fuck did they improve combat so much in infinite wealth?
>>740077319Agreed, it felt like it was going that way anyway first time I played.
>>740077556instead of copying from DQ, they copied from Atlus next door.
>>740077556it's pretty easy to improve when the starting point is the absolute dogshit
>>740077319I disagree, her living is a contrivance but it's way better for Majima's character to see the difference between them, to know that even if he cleaned up his act, even if he played the hero full-time, he's never ever going to be a civilian. He's just a thug in her eyes, and even if she recognized him, it wouldn't change what she sees.
>>740077319I assume you haven't played 5 so I'll try to be as vague as possible here.Makoto is a means to an end for the story and was more just to get Majima to where he needed to be story-wise but not really character-wise. The character aspect of it is tied to the abuse and lackadaisical nature of Shimano, Dojima, and Sagawa as they used him for their goals via her escort. I don't think they really cared about her to such a serious degree to think about doing anything serious to her or with her because she directly causes some issues with Majima's statements about a character during 5 that is important for that entire game's story.Makoto in general feels like them mulliganing that character.
I'd play 0, if you like it check out 1 and 2. Like a Dragon for being a more modern game was it's own story too that you can jump right into if you wanted. Wouldn't bother touching Pirate Yakuza, shit spin-off at best where the pirate sailing was the only half decent part.
