>>

I feel like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is pretty close to what JSR "should" play like. I'm a little worried Team Scalie is going to take too much "inspiration" from the zoomer "movement plus" retardation where you move so fast and get so much air you don't even really interact with the actual level anymore.

Looks like pure shit. How did they fuck it up so badly? World design is flat and ugly. Characters are too realistic. The whole idea in the first two games was the character designs evoke the stylish and wild designs of the graffiti.
>>
Not a fan of the visuals much, the faces look pretty meh
Hopefully they've been changed since then.
>>
>>740168763
It'd make sense if they make use of a lot of all the new moves but tone down the speed and momentum.
>>
Needs more color. The level design looks very bland and flat.
>>
I only care about this new game for one reason, the soundtrack, and there is a 99% chance they fuck it up
I give BRC some leeway, it is technically its own thing, but nuJSR must curate a perfect playlist blending the first two games

I think it's solely the controls which, once you learn them, removes that as a problem. Otherwise, I can spend hours in jet graffiti (although that's also largely because of the soundtrack).

Buy a Dreamcast and an Xbox.
>>
Have they even worked on the game since the last leak 3 years ago?
>>
>>740166754
Dang this is old, wonder when we'll get to see the actual trailer. I like it, though could use some more color I guess.
>>
>>740171689
The problem with the first game is the DC version has pop-up but the full soundtrack, and the 2010s remaster has fixed draw distance and widescreen but some tracks missing. And there's no mod that fixes both

>>740171882
Yeah like Sonic Crossworlds it's likely moving from UE4 to UE5

LOVE seeing people complain about it online. Most, if not all, haven't even played the originals. They didn't own a Dreamcast or OG Xbox.
Then you look at the Steam achievements and see that most of the people who have played the game, couldn't even complete the fucking tutorial.
Now you've got contrarian hipsters dooming over JSR3 and sucking off the ripoff of it.

>>
Oh rightttttttt.....they did announce a remake I believe, but I had heard nothing about it for quite a long time, so I assumed it had been cancelled or swept under the rug.

My biggest fear is the OST will not be nearly as good as the original, which is what part of the charm was for the original. It's like the original OST for Sonic games as well. Video game music in general was so good in the 90's and early 2000's, and it seems like developers got away from it as time went on and culture and trends changed. Disco tech style music just doesn't seem as popular as it was 25-30 years ago.

The cutscenes look fine, but the presentation of the gameplay is so utterly devoid of style, which is not what I think of when I think JSR. Hopefully they've improved it significantly by now. I was like you and didn't really like JSR for the first hour or two, because the controls felt clunky and unresponsive. The controls need a lot of getting used to, but once you do (like I did) the game gets good. Now I have very fond memories of JSR, it's good; it's just that the momentum and movement feels weird at first when you start out.

The most infuriating and baffling decision was the fact that none of the races tell you where you are even racing to or provide any signposting in these large 3-dimensional areas with multiple paths.
You basically just have to hug the AI opponent's ass and lose your first half dozen attempts just watching where they're trying to go before you can even attempt to race against them.
Genuinely baffling design.

Genuinely anon, try thinking through a lens that isn't modern day politics for a moment. The whole point of being in these gangs, spraying paint, and tearing up the streets (with rollerblades) isn't about leftist ideology, it's about anti-establishmentarianism and finding one's purpose while doing so. Put less wordy, a young caste of individuals finds wrong in the powers that be, and decides to makes themselves and their views known to those they view as oppressors. There is nothing inherently left-leaning about this; indeed, it is among the popular iterations of the hero's journey, just with teenagers, rollerblades and graffiti.

As it's depicted, JSR and JSRF both feature a villain that is much more fascist than conservative; conservatives are typically people with a belief system and are often slow to act, leading them to be largely ineffectual even when they gain power because fascists move very quickly to stamp out competing thought. The story and protagonists of JSR/F clearly favor a structure and want to create (even while they "destroy"), so they are not anarchist. They aren't quite left leaning, since they do not advocate for a more progressive society for its own sake. They are not quite conservative, since they do hold a belief, but it is a very personal one, rather than something akin to a religion or a dogma others should/must follow.

No, they are much closer to (lower case L) libertarians, since they want to be able to be individuals without others repressing their freedoms, with hopes for a better Future. That's how I see it anyway.

JSR's "tutorial" is harder than the entire rest of the game
Although it probably doesn't help that JSR had been free at a point, so a lot of people would've grabbed the game and then never played it anyway.

>Onishima and the cops are updated to have choppers armed with fucking lasers
Damn, Tokyo-to police does not fuck around

I'm both interested and afraid of the parkour segments. How do they plan to mix them with the skating mechanics? Or is the idea to have skating levels and parkour separate? I feel like there's some potential but i'm not sure of the execution
On the other hand, i absolutely hate the idea of cutscenes with dialogues as the trailer suggests, because it kinda feels like they're gonna develop a detailed plot, which i think it'ss exactly what this kind of game does NOT need. Just leave us with a simple arcade game about funky graffiti vandalism.
Then again, if they really aim to extend the map that much, i guess you need any help you can to avoid the game from getting repetitive

Overall, i'm interested. They better add the Dragula remix song

If it is anything but a brand new game I don't care. I don't want a remake / remaster / reimage / rebirth / reunion etc. New game, new levels, I'm not budging. Same reason I'm not buying Starfox.

God if it's a JSR remake instead of an original game... I mean, it has been like 20 years, but still. And even then, it's not like JSR ever had a continuity. At the least they should just make it a series where each installment is different, focusing on different aesthetic of the times.
The 90s was the more grungy-punk aesthetic which is what OG had.
Future was the early 2000s future copium that was going on.
So I wonder what a modern take would even be about.

I think it's an upgrade.
Also the cutscenes implying we will see more of these characters in depth is great since they didn't had much going on for them in the previous games aside from looking cool.

They really need to remaster/port JSR future over to modern platforms simultaneously with this release. It's been trapped for too long.
>>
why are they remaking all these ps2 games? they only came out 4 years ago.
>>
They should get rid of those facebook like buttons but that's just me. I disliked seeing Kojima using that for Death Stranding. Putting social media influence into games is weird. At least just make your own stylized version of it if we can't ignore commenting on this reality.
>>
Why did they delist JSR anyways?

Not sure of the others but I know you can't get Nights anymore. No clue if there's a problem with licensing or they're just planning for remasters or what.

>BRC wouldn't exist without JSR
None of these games would exist without Tony Hawks Pro Skater. But then again Tony Hawks Pro Skater may have not existed without Sega's Top Skater model 2 arcade cabinets.
Anyone can do a stylistic skate boarding game is my point. Neversofts games were stylistic to a certain extent because they ignored realism for pure absurdity at times in regards to challenges/maps/courses. Plus by Underground they did graffiti anyway.
I don't understand why people pretend that these games from Sega are so special that they can't be replicated. To this day the older Tony Hawks games are carried by actually experiencing the older non polished versions of them (not the remakes) because they feel like a time capsule. The same is true for Jet Set Radio.
If Tony Hawk was completely cell shaded then it might be considered indistinguishable. If not for a bunch of funky hip hop like tracks.
Unless you maintain the position that Jet Set Radio is really just Marc Ecko's Getting Up or something. The graffiti mini games were it's weakest aspect though.

The two jsr games are wildly different from each other but they know what they want to be. Brc doesn't feel that way and I don't know how anybody puts it close to the same level. Every single showcase of the game is people installing mods so they can noclip through the stage at 500 miles per hour so maybe it's for that audience. The campaign outright sucks and isn't fun, the enhanced mobility gets old after like 20 minutes of playing and then there aren't any redeeming qualities left to piggyback on
>>
>>740166754
where is pomni
>>740167000
they already delisted the original on steam
>>
>>740211415
I played it on release and never got around to mods because I have an autistic, baseless personal bias against r2modman and thunderstore. I agree that the campaign is kinda nothing and that really sucks, but the underlying mechanics are fine, it's just coming from the angle of making a stylish platformer featuring characters that are skating rather than a stylish skate game featuring a fair bit of platforming as the Jet Set games lean toward. The fact that the vanilla mechanics are open enough to let you drag a combo out pretty much forever in pretty much any area feels like the start of potentially interesting design, and speeding the player up to require more tight inputs to maintain such a combo is an interesting sounding way to develop it, but if it works out as you described and the player just winds up blitzing past everything and barely interacting with the level anymore then it's probably poorly tuned as it stands.
>>
>>740211879
If the goal was to be an extremely fast paced combo game everything about it had to be designed differently to the point that it wouldn't resemble the flow of jsr at all because those games aren't that fast. They clearly had a boner for them from the start though going by lethal league (a much better game) so it seems like a case of shoehorning in a literal jsrlike dream project without having solid fundamental ideas for it but at least it wasn't a 1:1 copy on the mechanical side which is respectable. Now I'm wondering if their new game is all about having another go at the idea but having it actually make sense this time in this way
>>
>>740211879
>it's just coming from the angle of making a stylish platformer featuring characters that are skating rather than a stylish skate game
I don't really understand when people call it a platformer because it just felt like a skate game to me akin to THPS when i played it on release and then played it later down the line too. I don't see how it's anymore platformer than even the more inferior versions of THPS style games like that game called Aggressive Inline released in 2002 for example if you want apples to apples comparisons on rollerblading.
>>
>>740212708
I don't think the goal was to be a fast paced combo game. I think the goal was to be a very loose and open platformer that happened to have momentum and tricks and grinding and "manuals" to live up to the skate inspiration. The fact that I can see it developing into a combo game if that's how they want to build on it doesn't mean anything about the intent.
The fact that all the modders decided what the game needed was to be way faster was probably a symptom of 1.) Sega derived fanbase and 2.) modern platforming sensibilities.
>Now I'm wondering if their new game is all about having another go at the idea but having it actually make sense this time in this way
Can you define "make sense" in a way that's meaningfully distinct from "how you in particular like it"? I still don't see what's supposed to be fundamentally bad about how BRC plays, you've once again only talked about what the modders did to it.
>>
>>740212765
Quite simply, it just doesn't commit hard enough to the basic feeling of the characters being on wheels. It's too easy to feel like you're playing something where the characters are just free running around rather than skating. Too much traction, too easy to stop and start, too small a turning distance at low speeds. Fuck man, Hover felt more like a skate game at times.
>>
>>740212987
>It's too easy to feel like you're playing something where the characters are just free running around rather than skating.
Yet this occured by THUG though. Being one year after JSRF's release about how you can jump into any trick combo by running into it whilst standing or positioning yourself wherever you want. I assume that was always originally Neversoft's goal to achieve this but it likely had something to do with programming limitations at the given time.

Real talk, this game is gonna be made or broken by the soundtrack. They cannot just hire some random French guy and Naganumbles to put Malcolm X samples in it when they’re going up against the NEO: TWEWY soundtrack. I have no idea what they’re going to do, but it needs to come out of left field.
