Nothing gets changed except the tiny bits you're meant to interact with. Losing Square's funding really hurt the games. IO couldn't even manage to do intro cutscenes. The loss of extra mechanics and difficulty after 2016 just stings too. There was no reason to remove things like guards hearing footsteps, or not being able to see you when they turn their heads.
