When the opportunity to make games look like movies presented itself, it was all over for the good ol' gaming. Photorealism made games look ugly, cheap and creatively bankrupt, with the ability to just scan someone’s mug and then turn it into the stuff of nightmares with bad shading and bamp maps and whatnot. The level design also degraded to “let’s just make a forest” and fill it with an anti soul gas. It also opened the floodgates for all the wannabe movie directors/writers, who now started using gaming as an outlet to compensate for their failed hollywood careers. Which, in turn, attracted the unwanted attention of the MSM and NPCs.Even now they will tell you that photorealistic graphics are better. Fuck photorealism. Fuck it up the ass.

Everyone always using Arkham Knight to make a point about the degeneration of gaming graphics always annoys me, because while it is a good example that game also suffered from the worst decline in style I've ever seen. The super stylized comic book appearance of the characters in the previous games was so much better it's unreal. Poison Ivy looks like a grandma in AK.

The ability to realistically portray emotions on a character's face in combination with improved voice acting brought with it a lot of female interest too. Gaming only had the odd autistic or cool tomboy chick involved before the 7th gen but now like half the audience and the studios have female voices within them and the quality of gaming, socially and mechanically, has plummeted drastically.
