Frankly, I'm having more fun with it than I had with Morrowind.TES 3 has better worldbuilding, sure, but it's basically a walking simulator with boring quests and unsatisfying combat. Oblivion has more engaging quests and a more fun combat, even with the difficulty spikes caused by the level-scaling.
>>740180823is there a mod that makes it less fucking ugly

These faggots don't understand SOUL, OP. But I do.
>>740180823Same, but both are great
>>740181458Why couldn't it have been a jungle, anyway? It's not like the Xbox 360 couldn't handle dense foliage.
>>740180823>it's basically a walking simulator why walk when you can ride?
>>740182118its not that it couldnt, its that todd watched the lotr movies.

i would love to hear your opinion after 10h or so, oblivion although different in art direction and atmosphere is still unique, but after doing the same dungeon 1000 times and learning that enemies scale with you so no matter how far into the game you are enemies are still massive sponges i bet you're not going to be having so much fun
>>740182118Go to Leyawiin, that's about the most dense jungle Cyrodiil could have.Dunno why you would've wanted the whole map to be jungle though
>>740182561bro had to give oblivion something
Oblivion is retarded. You can tell bgs spent all their time on radiant AI and making it look like minis tirith that they forgot to make a game.
>>740182657>Dunno why you would've wanted the whole map to be jungle thoughNot the whole map, just most of it, because that's what was already established
>>740182657>Dunno why you would've wanted the whole map to be jungle though
>>740182118The grass in Oblivion already humbled most PCs, it would've been many times worse with a dense jungle. Far cry is very likely a far cry from Oblivion in terms of complexity, no clutter npc inventories complex ais etc etc.
>>740180823Oblivion's combat is way worse than Morrowind's.
>>740184297

>>740182118have long have you lived, fucking faggot? are you dumb fucking oblivious to Bethesda using the same engine ever since Oblivion? have you seen a dense jungle in any Bethesda game even today? fucking fuckface retard?
>>740185113>Bethesda using the same engine ever since Oblivionoh my sweet summer child
>>740185205Creation Engine IS Gamebyro brownoid
>>740185310gamebryo is netimmerse
>>740183778There are jungle mods for Oblivion that run on potato PCs. There are always ways to get around the technical limitations.
>>740182128>why walk when you can manage a wallet instead?Truly engaging gameplay loop.
>>740183680I think it makes sense for the jungle to be the Nibenay regions especially down in blackwood towards black marshI think I prefer Colovia being rugged and hilly rather than jungle as well, I think this was the original intention of that text
>>740182601Only enemies that scale forever are npcs(daedra included), xivilai, liches, and ogres and only in health.Just get a mod that has more varied leveled lists and it's never an issue.
>>740182118>junglecucks still seethingOH NO NO NO NO
>>740188264Changing the setting to appeal to normalfags is bad, yes.
responding seriously to a joke post is primo aspergers btw
>>740189385I've grown to despise the normal cattle so much that I don't even mind being called a sperg anymore. In fact, I take it as a compliment.
>>740181231Go play the demaster if you can't handle unconventional aesthetics.
>>740180823i disagree which means im angry and i hate you.
>>740190981>he needs disagreement to be angry and hateful
>>740183680>>740186793Bethesda should have made at least some of Cyrodiil a jungle so it wouldn't feel like a massive retcon.
the magic in all 3 sucks balls so who cares
>>740182118Yes, and run at slideshow framerates. To put it bluntly, the main reason the jungle was replaced with normal forests was because consoles couldn't handle so much jungle. It's also the main reason Cyrodiil is only around Vvardenfell's size, instead of being over 4 times bigger as it would've been if Oblivion had kept Morrowind's landmass scale.
>>740186137But those were made YEARS after Oblivion came out, by the time PCs were able to handle such things without issue, and those mods were made by people who had greater understanding of Gamebryo/Creation's strengths and limitations than Bethesda did in the mid 2000s.
>>740182657> Dunno why you would've wanted the whole map to be jungle thoughBecause most of us really enjoyed the whole "volcanic island filled with mushrooms where people live inside dead crab shells in the ashlands" vibe, and could easily picture something like "inhospitible jungle horicultured into rice plains where not-Romans and no-Conquistadors battle against fire demons in Vietnam."
>>740182561>>Morrowind>QuestsDid you like the "fetch me a potion boy" quest as a high level mage or the two escort missions during which nothing happens? People nowadays complain about basic quests such as "go to dungeon to get a macguffin" but that was the highlight of the mages guild, although the "dungeon" itself was more of a basement
>>740193958Cyrodiil was scaled down because people in the early 2000s cried bloody murder over Morrowind not encompassing the entire province. It would have happened even if it were a PC exclusive. Same with the jungle, as Oblivion has quite a few more polygons and lighting effects than Morrowind.
>>740195086> It would have happened even if it were a PC exclusive.True, because in one of his few lucid acts, Todd Howard cut out all the procedural generation Morrowind would've had and instead fully handcrafted Vvardenfell. Bethesda was also in dire straits due to Redguard and Battlespire's failures.
>>740180823Morrowind > Skyrim > Oblivion for me.Out of these three Oblivion is the only one that I didn't even finish.
I like it>>740180823
oblivion feels more like a walking simulator than morrowind. in oblivion you just follow the quest marker and go to the next destination. in morrowind at least you have to figure out where you're going
>>740180823Oblivion quests are shallow gimmicks set in a vacuum with no bearing on the actual plot. Morrowinds quests all intertwine with the main quest. Genuinely don't know how anyone can enjoy Oblivions quests more than Morrowind.
>>740181231it's insanely soulful. Oblivion is beloved and hilarious to this day because of all the characters and how they looked and sounded. you are wrong >>740180823the combat sucks ass in Oblivion and having fast travel and an arrow to follow from level 1 did a lot of damage to the series, and oblivion removed stuff people could do in morrowind, but it is really good. The quests are definitely better>difficulty spikes ya but the way oblivion does difficulty is very bad. enemies dont threaten you they just take 9000 hits to kill
>>740197308Half the quests in Morrowind just tell you to go meet X guy in Y city. Not exactly like trying to decipher a treasure map as people imply.
>>740198719Meant for >>740196463
>>740197308Hmmm let's check using basic game knowledge >1st quest in morrowindYou have to get to a new town and check in at the corner club to find where caius is by talking to people>oblivionYou fast travel to the quest marker.Oh... you are full of shit.
>>740196463How can Oblivion be more of a walking sim if you walk less?
>>740198719the main difference is how much info you get given, some quests give you next to no information and you're expected to just wander around looking for ittamriel rebuilt is even worse for this, great mod aside from that though
>>740197790/v/>enemies don't threaten youAlso /v/>AAAAH I GOTTA MINMAX MY ENDURANCE FOR MAX HEALTH!!!!!
I just turn the difficulty all the way down, the game is best served as a comfy amusement park that you are questing in
>>740200686>the game is best served as a comfy amusement park that you are questing inThat's Morrowind and Skyrim.Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion are all about actually trying to beat the game.
As someone who played the almost the entire series(skipped arena and the MMO) this year the only game i still think about is Morrowind.
>>740200058you might need to do this if you max the difficulty slider, i don't know.
>>740182118Todd watched Fellowship of the Ring and mistakes were made
>>740182118Literally because the LotR movies just came out, so they wanted to make the game more like LotR to cash in on its popularity. They've stated so themselves.
>>740201572>They've stated so themselves.Where?
>>740202004Interviews.
oblivion's combat sucks, i don't get why people like it at all. the stagger makes it unplayable. you get staggered so much, when you get hit and when you hit, even with decent agility. the only real way to avoid it is to block every time they attack and to get two hits in when they are staggered, then repeat, but this turns the combat into a really stupid pattern that you just repeat over and over. there is nothing fun about the combat.
>>740186776You know what I always wanted 1: mages guild teleports to send you to some realm I between the planes. Like some chaotic procgen stew, but you had a guiding light and you follow that and end up where you wanted to teleport to ....but if you didn't .....well...imagine ending up on some plane or oblivion with no way back.
>>740200795>>the game is best served as a comfy amusement park that you are questing in>That's Morrowind and Skyrim.thats so insanely wrong i have a hard time believing this is a genuine opinion. daggerfall and oblivion are both flawed in a way that makes them best played as casual experiences. they both WILL fuck you over in one way or another. quest items will be inaccessible, quests will break, npcs will die/break/disappear, and oblivion's combat can be extremely unfair on high difficulty with enemies attacking with zero windup or just running into an overleveled minotaur lord that oneshots you because you took too many dirty levels.skyrim's combat is far more fair with the only worries being the cinematic instakills and frost mages. its very hard to level wrong and the game is so streamlined that maxing difficulty is challenging but approachable. and morrowind makes it very easy to make a combat-viable character at level 1 with basic understanding of the mechanics, on top of giving you a ton of survivability tools that youll never need to use on lower difficulties.
>>740202930*pats behind shoulder*Thanks for the backup friend
>>740195069You are just cherry picking. Except not really because cherry picking is a real example, what you are doing is straw manning a cherry pick of an argument. i could cherry pick bad oblivion quests too, like the fighters quest in anvil that is almost verbatim the same as the first fighters guild quest in balmora ieMorrowind:>i have a rat problem, go to my attic and kill the rats!Oblivion>I have a rat problem go to my ... BASEMENT , and kill the .... CATS that are dangerous to my rats!wow what a twist, we clearly went from boring quests in morrowind to an intellectually stimulating art form in oblivion, much wow many fun! cant wait to tell r*ddit about this one!
>>740203091Oh no, not a joke.. I'm on your side, but this example is shit.
>>740202619The special attacks are fun when they trigger, and crafting spells to instakill enemies is fun. Draining all fatigue from enemies so they ragdoll (for actual in game years if you do a strong enough spell because draining fatigue is cheap) is fun. Then you can send them flying through the air with other spells, which is extremely fun.I respect Morrowind more as a game but I must've spend hundreds more hours in Oblivion, it's such a fun sandbox.
>>740180823>engaging questsAh yes, the paranoid elf behind the church and the dark brotherhood "lock-room" mystery.I'm also partial to the encumbering ring at the bottom of the well that killed that one guy.
>>740195069Oblivion mage quest>hey I want you to retrieve a ring from the well behind the guild>oh it's actually a trap and the ring is enchanted with a burden spell because the guild leader is a necromancer who hates the Mages Guild and retarded people... ok? How is this relevant to anything at all except the absolute dogshit confrontation with MannimarcoMorrowind guild quest>hey I want you to research why an entire race of people just vanished from the face of the earth>while exploring dwarven ruins you learn more about the Battle of Red Mountain, the Tools of Kagrenac and viewpoints that contradict the established Tribunal vs Dagoth Ur narrative
>>740203803Morrowind's bare bones quests are a blessing in disguise too. You want to just fill like you're picking up tasks to serve your roleplay choices imo, so oftentimes less overt "gameplay" with scripted shit and epic twists serves that better. With Oblivion the quests are very theme park, but they did something cool with like, the Dark Brotherhood headquarters that you don't really get in Morrowind where you want to visit this place and retalk to all the npcs after every mission you do.
>>740203512say what you like but those were all great the first time you played them Oblivion does have great quests, they just might not be better than Morrowind's more plain ones for an rpg
I saw an anon the other day, nasty critters
>>740203512That guy was fun, especially breaking into his house and reading his journal and watching him get more and more schizo
>>740181125It was always hideous, even when it released honestly. Despite what todd says, you might need to wait till skyblivion releases or play the remake for decent visuals (i havent but it looked fine to me)
>>740182561>oblivion >combat
>>740195756What happened to bethesda between morrowind oblivion and daggerfall? These games are so drastically different in scope and mechanics and even setting and feel it really is a wonder. Oblivion feels like very inspired by LOTR, and Daggerfall obviously by shit like Conan the Barbarian. Morrowind is the only one that feels like pure originality and vision, not saying that as a slight against the others, but it makes you think
>>740203803See thats what the fuck im talking about.. there was only a few years between these games so why the MONUMENTAL SHIFT in tone and themes?
>>740205096oblivion was made for consoles first and like young adult 360 owners
>>740205245Undeniably correct business decision
>>740205731they would have been fine making a pc sequel to morrowind aimed at adults too though, and the game would have been better
>>740207032>they would have been fine making substantially less money
>>740207225yes
>>740205096>MONUMENTAL SHIFT in tone and themes? What shift?
