A lot more effort went into the hard mode of 10 compared to hero/superhero modes of 9, all robot masters have new attacks, enemies are faster, levels have new/tweaked gimmicks and less cheap gotcha. Also the game has more use for Proto Man's slide and Bass is a lot of fun.

It's still based of X4's core movement system but with some minor tweaks and the rest of the game is designed by developers who clearly hate the player and don't want them to succeed, and if they do, not have a good time while doing it.
