What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play?Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?
>>740193172I'm 38, only play on PC. I do play modern but mostly stick to indies or party games (to play with my kids). Lately I've been setting up servers so my kids can have LAN parties with their friends. It's been nice learning about networking and just seeing kids enjoy a hobby.
>>740193558>Lately I've been setting up servers so my kids can have LAN parties with their friends.that is fucking based, dude. congrats
>>740193172I was going to play Marathon during free promotion on my pc but Battleye was required so I just noped and uninstalled ithttps://store.steampowered.com/app/3065800/Marathon/
>>740193172all of them look like dogshit except ace combat
>>740193172Ace combat is coolDon't give a shit about anything else
>>740193172>What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play?Absolute disinterest.>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?Mostly just indies.
I'm 33, lately I've been enjoying Mewgenics, Minos (Dungeon Keeper esque) and Never Second in Rome (Very low budget text-based RPG about being a centurion for Caesar's army)There's a shitload of games that were revealed in the past few days that I added to my already huge wishlist. Among them:>BracerMedieval Shmup?>ChivalwareWeird tile dodging roguelite>In Hope VoidenA first person horror shooter selling itself on the fact that you control 12 different characters with their own objectives and if one dies, it dies permanently and the rest of the game is affected.>Tenebris SomniaResident Evil ripoff with a shitload of high quality FMV added in>Curse of ResthavenA really ambitious mix of trading and exploration mechanics.Incidentally, when I saw the trailer for that, I bought the developer's previous and first game, "Lil Guardsman". It's kind of like No I'm Not A Human but humorous and set in medieval times. Been enjoying that too.I fucking love video games, bros.
>>740193172Ace combat looked cool even though I never played the series. The other decent looking games were the negro sushi game, the stuntman game and the new onimusha.I have mostly been playing old games or shit that I get for free on EPIC / Steam. Also a bit of Street Fighter 3 every day. Have been making people ragequit recently so I guess I am improving finally.
>>740193172Shit's fucked. I'm just out here playing MSFS.
>>740193172i am intrigued by ILL like everyone else. thats about it.
>>740194298curse looks cool
>>740193172Mostly nothing of value. Ace Combat isn't for me, Stunt Man isn't a arcade racist game so whatever. Sticking to old games.
38, ill looked okay and i might check out ace, everything else was forgettable slopI'm currently playing broken arrow, kenshi, vostok and synthetik 2 and I'm really looking forward to playing the guild 2 with friends with the new steam online support patch. I cant recall the last AAA game i played. I cant really stand the bad story telling or dialogue combined with shallow game mechanics that treat me like a child.
I've been playing Tears of The Kingdom on my Steam Deck. I tried playing on my gaming PC but something about the settings keep having it crash/freeze after like 2 hours and I can't be fucked to tinker or test it with a different emulator. I'm usually away from home for work anyway. Runs mostly fine on the SD though, mainly just minor visual issues and FPS dips in certain locations but good enough.
>>740193172>What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play?pic related>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?steam says the last game i purchased was silksong, before that it was elden ring SOTE dlc, and before that it was palworld in 2024 so that should be enough to tell you 95% of everything made is garbage
>>740193172I thought I was excited for Onimusha until I played the demo. That shit needs some work.
>>740194872>Avoided plenty of cool games that came out>Played mediocre slop and absolute trash (Palworld, seriously?) in the meantime
i have a pretty big backlog already. believe it or not i never played bioshock 1, 2, or 3 when they came out. so im playing those. just finished 1, i liked it. im not really interested in a lot of the games coming out. but i am playing avowed right now, which is a pretty solid 7/10 if you can get over the fact that 99 percent of the cast are black women, your dialogue and choices make absolutely no difference whatsoever, and only one of the companions is interesting.
>>740195073I enjoyed Avowed, and I think the fish, the dwarf and the black woman were all fun in their own way.The models are gay, but the environments are gorgeous.
>>740193172was fine honestly. too many manbabies and gen alphas bitching. since sony is making everything exclusive i wont be getting anything new, same for switch 2. maybe if either console goes on sale for 50% off (lol, never). i play anything that catches my eye, AAA, indie, mobile, etc.
>>740195185the (gay?) fish is the one i like. the dwarf is too tsundere, and the black woman is too corny. also so far the fish is the only one with a character quest, so i get the feeling hes the only one im supposed to care about anyway.but yeah i agree it is a surprisingly pretty game in terms of environment. the characters weirdly enough are like skyrim looking.
>>740193172I'l play the Tomb Raider game and maybe that stunt racer but everything else is shit,
>>740193172i've been spending this year clearing my retardedly large backlogand boy did I pick a good time to do it bc holy hell there is not a goddamn single new game coming out that I am looking forward to
>>740193172I work. I didn't watch it, nor would I if I didn't work.
>>740193172>absolute state of playAbsolute dogshit and anything I was interested in is multiplat and already got announced last year.>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?Maybe one or two new games a year. I used to be more excited about indie games but then I realized the majority of them are just imitations of old games that I could already emulate. Now I don't play indie games unless they do something meaningfully different or unique. AAA games are so bad that I can count the number of developers I care about on one hand: Nintendo, Capcom, Atlus, From Software, and Valve. Even they've been releasing some mediocre titles lately, which doesn't bode well.

ILL is the only thing that looked interesting for me and as much as I'd like to share Ace Combat fans' excitement for a new entry, I still haven't played the games to care, I actually still have AC7 unplayed in my Steam library since the last Steam sale.Other than that, the only thing the Absolute State of Play did was continue proving that a PS5 is worthless if you already have a decent PC.>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?I play fun games, so yes. I was supposed to start Mario + Rabbids, but the sad worms are keeping me very unmotivated at the moment.
>>740196326i mean i keep seeing >huur durr playne gam numbah 1it was a cringy ass airplane sim with woke/ugly characters, it looked like shit. Rayman looked good, Tomb Raider is actually bring back attractive Lara
I'm 35 and any guy we play with who makes the "im so old haha" jokes gets kicked. Go be insecure somewhere else.
>>74019317238>What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play? Of the things I looked at, nothing inspired. I enjoyed the old Onimusha games but I'm not liking the direction this new one is going. It's disappointing to see Ace combat get a battle pass. >Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?Sometimes, more often indie. I played Silksong earlier this year and I'll probably pick up Mina sometime soon. For AAA I usually wait until they're patched, complete, and deeply discounted years later. The last one I bought on release was Elden Ring. This last weekend I was on an SNES kick. Played MMPR (super short and easy), Soul Blazer, and UN Squadron.
I'll play Stuntman
>>740196738Looks cool, thanks for the recs.
Turning 36 tomorrow. It didn't look bad in my opinion but I'll probably skip anyways.I'm in a weird phase right now. I grew up on Nintendo stuff and JRPGs, but then got convinced to join PC gaming a few years ago because everything is on it so why not. Makes sense. I also became a little anti-Nintendo during that time. Here lately I've felt no desire to game on my PC though. Just not feeling it or having fun. I just end up closing anything I start 30 minutes in and doomscroll. So I've been getting back to my Nintendo roots on my Switch 2 a little bit. Honestly I think it's what I've needed. Bouncing between a bunch of different series like Pikmin and Smash and Fire Emblem in handheld while chilling in bed and it's been very relaxing and fun. It's reminding me why I love vidya.Thinking about picking up Echoes of Wisdom and playing DK64 since it's coming to NSO tomorrow.
>>74019317234. I'm unironically playing Morrowind for the first time and I played WOW Classic hardcore for a bit. I play wc3 and heroes of might and magic 3 and super smash brothers melee. I don't think a new game ever needs to be made desu but I'd like some new Elder Scrolls games which are improvements on Morrowind
>>740193172I might pick up fireteam elite 2 but otherwise I didn't take care that much. I'm having kids at the end of the month so when they're old enough I'll just let them play some of my old signified consoles until they get curious about PC gaming
>>740197985>Signified Softmodded* idk why I thought swipe would get that
Howdy marketer-kunDidn't care about the state of play. Too much cinematic crap or worse takes on existing franchises. I don't really enjoy modern triple A games because everything either goes with a live service model or is really cinematic, and these just aren't that fun. The only franchise to get better by becoming more cinematic was resident evil 7 onwards. Indie Games and double A games can be really fun. Loved the recent robocop games, dusk and cultic for example. A bit sick of roguelikes and souls slop.
>>74019317239 and I play games like this unapologetically in the living room with windows open. AAA games be damned, I just ignore them.

>>740193172>Gitaroo mannice. the rest of it was whatever. i liked Control, so i'll probably get the sequel. i don't think i actually care about any of PlayStation's established franchises except whatever Fumito Ueda is cooking, but that game probably won't come out for another 3 years at least.i play modern games and mix of AAA and indie, but my backlog is big enough that i play basically everything on a 2-3 year lag. i finished playing Rabbit & Steel and now i'm playing FF7 Rebirth, and i have Mario & Luigi Brothership queued up next. my friends are big into Deadlock right now, so i've been playing that with them, as well.
>>740198683never played that game. only played 2023 AAA like BG3, starfield, lies of P, elden ring
48, i thought the sop was absolute trash. I would maybe play through AC in VR once other than that it all looked awful. I only play on PC though so not my problem.
>>740193172Wasn't as bad as people said and I'd probably play at least 1 or 2 of them. However, that'll be years down the line when they're under $19.99 (on sale) or free. I'm in no rush and that guarantees all the DLC is out and maybe even included and the patches have been applied.
I feel like Im living in a constant state of dread. Feels like the everything could blow up at anytime. Having two kids is a fucking monster. $150k is somehow just not enough. And uhh ya factorio space age and slay the spire 2 are made for old farts like me

>>74019317237 here.>What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play? Not bad, I suppose. There were actually a few games that caught my eye, namely Tomb Raider, Onimusha, Control Resonant and Stuntman. I don't know how many of those I'll end up actually playing, but they seemed alright.>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?Mostly emulate older games along with indie titles. I've got nothing against AAA games, they just don't get my attention very often. Planning on picking up Mina the Hollower once I'm done with my LTTP run.
Gotta say fuck Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker
>>740199995>called out>get desperate>no u
35, Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered was the only game I'd be interested in. I mainly play indies, I just got Nuclear Throne and Mina the Hollower
36 hereI only play Resident Evil 1-6 now, this began after playing Requiem. I dont plan on playing anything new and I dont plan on stopping.
>>74019317238>What is your opinion on the recently announced games on the absolute state of play?More like the absolute state of shit. Was awful.>Do you even play modern games, AAA or indie?Yes, I play plenty. Playing Slay the Spire 2 atm
>>74019317235 here, I'm in the situation where I really don't like modern game practices but it's becoming increasingly difficult to go back and play and old games because I've become so accustomed to all the increased qol. Is this a skill issue? Am I becoming a casual?
>>740193172Just uninstalled Resident Evil Requiem after 45min when "Grace" wouldn't stop her insufferable exaggerated whimpering and crying all the time.It was so annoying that I couldn't think of anything else while playing. Just "will you shut the fuck up already you pathetic cunt".Also had to skip several unnecessarily long and boring cutscenes.I have no idea how people find this crap entertaining.I hate hysterical foids and cheap drama.
>>740201067>It was so annoying that I couldn't think of anything else while playing. >>740200779yeah youre a shitter
>>740193172It was shit but expected it. To answer your question I also don't play modern games (although I did break down and get Forza 6 since I do enjoy those games). The one modern game that came out this gen that I do still play is Starfield despite the shit it gets online, but I never have a more than maybe an hour and a half to spare in order to play it. And most days I don't really want to play anything regardless of how new or old it is.I have a question for you though. How come younger people aren't into video games like we were? They play phone games sure, but how come they don't care as much about PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo like we did?
30 sharp. I admit, I still game on Mobashit.I am either replaying the Souls trilogy, emulating, or no-lifing Griim Dawn. The new God of War looks cute, though I cringe when I think of how lacking the product may be as a video game. Good to see Onimusha back — plenty of folk feel fond of that franchise. Elden Ring might be the last big release I will ever play.
>>740201939>I have a question for you though. How come younger people aren't into video games like we were? They play phone games sure, but how come they don't care as much about PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo like we did?Not sure what you mean by that. Vidya makes more money than ever in general.
>>740202291>Good to see Onimusha backyeah, too bad we are getting remaster / ports of every onimusha but the best one, which is 3. Even dawn of dreams is getting a port. The fighting game one would be cool too.

>>740193172I'm 35 and barely care for AAA anymore. Mostly play indies or older games, plus I've been getting into gamedev since last year and it's a lot of fun
The west can't make videogames anymore. They make propaganda. That's all they're capable of, and probably all they'll ever be capable of until they deal with foreign nations occupying their countries.
39 here, anything with half naked anime girls
I'm an old head now (41). I haven't played on any console in almost 10 years. I only use PC handhelds now and play games for usually 1-2 hours a day if I can. Playing P3R right now. Bought mina but who knows if/when I'll start that. That state of play was truly abysmal. The only game that looks interesting is ill and hopefully it isn't shit when it finally comes out.

>>740208063see how far you can get on one life. playing with only one life gets my heart racing on these older games ive played a half dozen times already
>>740193172The State of Play just made me think about what it is about the modern industry I don't like. Turns out it that I didn’t really ‘grow out’ of games, but it’s more that modern games aren’t making the kind of stuff I like. I’m much more into arcade-y, systems-focused games and new ways to play and experience games, and most of what’s coming out now feels like the same kinds of games I've been playing in the past over and over but nicer looking and different assets. Also the moviegame shit that ruined the industry, at least to me. I think I was a fan of video games because I looked at them as fun toys/gadgets to mess that felt like new era with every generation. I STILL stand by my unpopular opinion that the Wii and Wii U were the last video games consoles that had any reason to exist and despite getting shit on I enjoyed them. The Switch is a Gameboy Ultimate that can dock to your TV so I don't really count that one much and I can't explain to you how disappointing the Switch 2 is (just a Switch yet again but stronger and a little bigger) for me. I'm in the minority obviously but that State of Play and the state of the modern gaming industry in general just made me think about why the fuck I even still try to follow this stuff anymore. Basically the occasional indie/AA game is all I can muster.More power to everyone who loves the industry today though. If you're loving it, that's a wonderful thing.
>>740209489>Basically the occasional indie/AA game is all I can muster. And by "occasional" I mean maybe 1 or 2 games every 2 years or so..
>>740193172Born in 89, I mostly stick to battletech and mechwarrior stuff, with sprinkles of random stuff. I don't really focus on any given genre. Currently playing through Dragons Dogma 2, Stellar Blade, Ape Escape, and Legend of Dragoon.

>>740200636im 30 and infected with the T-virus too, it's lit. making my way to requiem when it goes on sale (with hope at the steam summer sale). enjoyed re1r, re2r, re4r, and re5, which i bought on that crazy sale before requiem was released for like $4 each. i also played re7 and re3r. pretty happy with my haul, but hope they do another sale so i can pick up the original trilogy, code: veronica, and re6, which i think i owe a try despite so many people putting it on blast. not super interested to play village though, the winters and mold stuff was uninteresting to me. re7 was well-made, but a bit overlong for my taste, and the environment was too unpleasant to enjoy a replay. do you have a favorite? i think re2r has grabbed me the most, i've played through it three times, learning the layout is interesting and i like the structure of the game. good feeling guns too, neat. i like the locations, the characters, and stories, i like how unserious they are, and the designs are all entertaining to me too. i like to think playing this kind of game helps me improve quick thinking -- at the very least, my reflexes. then again, that's most video games i enjoy.i just played a demo of "tenebris somnia" for 40m, it was cool, nice puzzles and a cool gimmick where the cutscenes are live-action, and very neatly done. made me think of the upcoming cregger resident evil movie, which i don't have high expectations for -- for me, the appeal of the games is more than half about the gameplay, and the lore, while entertaining and charming, is no high art with particularly interesting things to say, and the thrill of the setting is that you are put into it. i will watch it though and talk about it on this website

>>740212448i understand your frustration, but the real answer, as it often is in our wide world, is "it depends." while i'm certain you encounter people who excitedly consume the trending game on the steam front page and gamer youtube or wherever that is just as you described: a reskin of a great classic, or in some cases, utter slop designed only to stimulate dopamine production. but the major companies who create games are doing so with increasing pressure from the studios who need to make as much money as possible; game developers that have been sold to those who desire profit above all else, and so game designers, like screenwriters, create based on "what will sell?" as opposed to "what is interesting?" this extends to the indie market, but outside of those structures, there remain hobbyists, developers who are interested in making games, and even some people with money who are interested primarily in funding interesting ideas, and so there are interesting games that come out of independent development. there are innovative people creating in all genres of video game. anyway, i think you're right that wolverine is a bargain bin game, if that.
