>have a bunch of extra shit in the game with no purpose: ....
>have a bunch of extra shit in the game that goes towards 100% completion (pointless): UGH WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?? THIS IS SO TEDIOUS. GAME FUCKING RUINED.
what causes this autism?

Except people complained just as much about the korok seeds in nu-Zelda.
>>
They screwed up by giving you a moon for every little thing though. Past a certain point moons stop giving you your little dopamine hit, and it isn't fun to explore anymore.
What they should have done is had a lower tier collectable. like the blue coin system in Sunshine, and then keep moons for real objectives.

That's retarded, you find the easiest moons first so once that gets boring you get a hit as they get harder
>>

Moons are basically like playing a Mario game where you get coins for beating a whole level. I have no idea how anyone working on this game didn't realize that a collectathon should have more varied collectables when it has a larger amount of things it's making you collect overall.

the weird thing is they're moons, right?
You could have had full moons as the main collectable, and then five crescent moons would make up a full moon.
>>

Yeah that would've been better. It's a huge problem that they made platforming challenges have the same value as having a dog dig up the right spot for you on the beach.

They fucked up so bad the moons are less satisfying to collect than fucking kong letters in DKC and that's not even a collectathon.
>>
I collected every single moon just because the game was so fucking fun and amazing I wanted to play it as much as possible
I think you faggots just hate video games
>>
remember everyone whining about getting every box and 100% completion in Crash 4 and they all sounded like a bunch of babies who didn't want to actually play the game, btw I loved the game, actually played like 2 the peak of the series

Yes, that doesn't make Odyssey any less mid. The vast majority of them are either boring or tedious. No amount of copium about how "It's the moveset that matters" will change that. Lots of complexity yet no depth whatsoever.

I don't even know how they did it, no other Mario game had this issue besides NSMB2 which made its gimmick shitting coins at the player, but even that game didn't try to devalue reaching a flagpole.
>>740200432
I like every other 3D Mario because the rewards didn't feel like a grocery list.
>>
>>740200593
The difference is that Crash 4 is actually good because the main objective is not to break boxes but to beat platforming challenges. Odyssey is all about collecting moons and most of them are trash.
No matter how many or how little moons you get in Odyssey, more than half the content to do isn't worth it.

Better than the game warping you out a stage each and every time you find a star. Yeah I get that some stages changed in older 3D mario games depending on previous stars obtained but still.
>>
Children yearn for the banjo kazooie scheme where different collectables do separate things.

true. also i dont think any game has surpassed collectible hierarchy of DKC2.
