They're right if I'm being honest, though personally I find SH1-3 (and origins if I'm being honest) to also be fun to play. Still, most people can more or less get the main experience just watching someone play the game or listening to the music + watching a lore video. SH2 especially isn't even scary.

But games had a wide variety of looks because the hardware advanced enough that you could have such diversity. Its not like a Gameboy or an NES. Stupid zoomers
It's just a cool setting and a lot of people first introduction to Psychological horror in video games (mainly 2), but if you think about it for even two seconds it's easy to understand why.

To them, liking anything or having genuine passion or interest is viewed as cringe, so if you're not hiding yourself behind seven different layers of irony, that's how they look at you. They genuinely view it as a bad thing to form personal longtime investment over something you enjoy.
