Reminder all you people who voted on the Club Nintendo survey in 2007 killed Paper MarioWe are still feeling the ramifications 19 years later
>what if the last long slow boring stretch of TTYD was the entire gamemaybe they should have made Super not terrible before asking
I think Tanabe's a total bullshitter anyways because Mario & Luigi ignored the "Mario mandate" all the way up until AlphaDream was pumping out remakes to try and save itself, and the artstyle + genericization was a pretty big shock for that series, especially with Brothership immediately not following it anymoreOn top of that the moment Tanabe wasn't involved with a Paper Mario game we got the TTYD remake that was super-faithful and had new NPCs in the style of the TTYD ones and more in line with the non-Toad NPCs seen in developer art for Sticker Star, Color Splash and Origami King
Is Tanabe or Miyamoto to blame for this shit
>>740200002Both. Miyamoto probably threw a fit because Super Paper Mario has LITERALLY FUCKING NOTHING to do with Mario in any way outside of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, goombas and koopa troopas, and going by the TTYD remake, Tanabe has been lying his ass off about creative control over Paper Mario for the better part of two decades
>>740199498>not even 1% said the story was interestingwhoever wrote the story should have killed themselves.
Sticker Star was the only game I ever played that felt like it hated me for playing it
>>740199615If by super faithful, you mean censored and rewritten and butchered to hell, then yes.
>>740200478Oh shut up
>>740199498tanabe was never going to make a good game no matter what any surveys said, the man's track record is incredibly consistent. He's responsible for about 30 stinkers in a row
>>740199498SPM is a bad game, just because the stuff that came after was worse doesn't make it a good game. That being said I am so fucking glad this hack fraud Tanabe is gone and am patiently waiting for Miyamoto to be gone as well.
>>740200585>the man's track record is incredibly consistent. He's responsible for about 30 stinkers in a rowThan why has he not been fired?
>>740200620he has
>>740200002Probably 65% Tanabe, 35% Miyamoto. Miyamoto probably saw some of the things going on in Paper Mario and was like, "I dunno bro, this doesn't feel very Mario." The Universal movies also show he has NO concept for stories, even in a format that requires stories. But Tanabe in general went ultra retard the past 15 years. You can see it even beyond Mario, with Metroid. Federation Force? Him. Prime 4? Him.
super paper mario's story is extremely cringy
>>740200519No, you keep your whore mouth shut, you lying faggot. The demake killed all hope for the series.
>>740200620Living under a rock anon?
>>740200961It's so funny too. He "retired" after Prime 4 flopped. Dude all but admittedly he failed.
>>740201164Good
>>740200663Whatever. I'll always respect him for SMB3.
>>740202914Homeboy directed and designed SMB2 as well. Goddamn. Jewyamoto stole his credit.
>>740201164He was producer of the first three Prime games too though. It has to be the former Microsoft and Sony guys they hired after the original Retro staff basically all quit.
>>740203132I'm sure they're not great, but Tanabe is clearly senile. Paper Mario for the past 15 years was him, too, and those were all Japanese devs. The devs for Luigi's Mansion 3 were told to not include a progression system in the game, which falls in line with the Paper Mario mindset Tanabe was going for too. If you look at his resume, he basically falls right the fuck off after 2014, with Luigi's Mansion 3 being one of the few bright spots.
>>740203290Senile at 50? Alzheimer's doesn't develop that early. The man is only 62 now.
>>740203802Then let me correct that: he just naturally became really fucking incompetent.
>>740203290Holy shit the only good game on that list is LM3 and even that is the worst of the trilogy good riddance
>>740199498I'm part of the 99% who slated it, it's not my fault that only PM64 is good. Switching dimensions fucking sucked too.
>>740199498You're welcome.
>>740204652>>740204739Boooo
>>740200663Thats really Nintendo in general. None of them really know what the customer actually wants but they confident they do. Tanade doesn't play games. He watches movies, and Miyamoto has probably not touched a game in 20 years. The last time he tried to get involved we got Star Fox Zero and two other projects that got rolled into other games. They've also hired a ton of people who aren't gamers themselves. The next 10 years of Nintendo is going to be remakes as a retirement party for the geezers and complete dogshit as the new hires have no idea what they are doing. People aren't ready for it.
>>740203876Bro, his first two games sold 10 million each in the fucking 80s when the install based was 20 times smaller and game price were way higher relative to basic necessities. He could have practically jerked off on the job for the next 37 years at Nintendo and he still earned it.
>>740205475Well he jerked off at his job for 10+ years, and made a bunch of shitty games. Also I don't really care about how much he sold for Nintendo? I don't get any of that money.
Iwata killed Paper Mario. Every single Nintendo franchise went to shit in the mid to late 2000s which is "coincidentally" when the first batch of games made under Iwata released. He wanted to focus everything on the casual market, and with Mario games specifically that meant cutting back on all the weird OC stuff to focus entirely on the generic toads/koopas/etc. The first wave of games made under the new president started coming around 2022-2023 and we immediately saw the soul come back to Mario spinoffs around then, with remakes of Paper Mario TTYD/Mario RPG and a new Mario and Luigi.
>>740205475This is the "but he made Graduation" of gaming
>>740205956>most of BotW's development happened under him, the game that threw out the baby with the bathwater and pivoted the series to appeasing western open world casualsMy god, I think you're onto something.
>>740200478Explain how it's all of those things.
>>740205956>a bunch of censored altered ruined demakes>the soul came back
>>740199498maybe they should have shoved in more shitty memes and references than it already had
>>740199498Does anyone find shit like this crazy? Mega Man Legends 3 had the same thing. "Oh sorry, but it turns out this random social media survey was FUCKING PIVOTAL to the future of the franchise. If you wanted to say your piece, why didn't you do it?..."
>>740207921Yup
>>740208313I thought Legends 3 got canned because it was that time period where Capcom hated Mega Man because of Inafune and were trying to bury the franchise.
>>740208313Legends 3 I get because it was just Capcom saying fuck you to Inafune But this shit makes no sense. In fact, the stupid ass sticker system was added in really late, even without a good story the game itself looked like a fun Paper Mario game in the beta. They just royally decided to pivot and make the most unfun game of all time out of NOWHEREhttps://youtu.be/hKdcu5g0lfc
>>740208515>On July 18, 2011, Capcom officially announced that production on Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled. Capcom also announced that neither a full game nor Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version would be released.[6][7] In replies to fans two days later, Capcom's UK Twitter account appeared to blame lack of fan involvement for the game's cancellation.[21][22] Capcom UK later apologized for the original wording and clarified that the tweets referred to the lack of interaction in the Development Rooms that Capcom created to help the game's development, not to the fans "who have been nothing but supportive".[23] Capcom shut down the Japanese Development Room one month after the initial announcement, but initially stated the North American Development Room would remain open indefinitely;[24] it was later closed in 2020.[25] Many of their contents have been archived by the fans.[24][26][27]Basically, "you didn't use our obscure internet forum? Well the game's cancelled."
>>740199498I'm so glad this fucking cunt eventually got fired even if it took too long, any other company publicly throwing their rewards program fans (aka some of their most loyal fans) under the bus for a game being total pigshit would've been put on blast immediately and harangued for weeks or even months for it on social media. Especially when the excuse for Colon Splash also being bad was just "we definitely didn't have time to factor people's distaste for Shitter Shart into CS's development haha oopsiedoodles :) ".
Chuggaa went into great detail on why SS was such trash.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUEdHCGNvpo
>>740200478pic related and the menu speed comparison webm made me forego purchasing the game
>>740208980I think he recently teased that Color Splash is coming next. Oh boy.
>>740209160Oh, this is gonna be good.
>>740199498Club Nintendo Japan*Only westoids care about a fucking Paper Mario story.
>>740209098the sun isn't that big of an issue, but the slow menus and being unable to skip text really dampers the overall game
>>740209160Color Splash is so fucking badIn some ways its worse than SS. Color Splash makes you do like 5 extra steps for every bad shit thag SS does
>>740209604Plus there's absolutely no room for benefit of the doubt that they couldn't have known that what they were making was bad, like you could give to SS.
>>740209796It's ironic miyamoto call anything a "port of the X version" when NSMB was the same game for multiple entries, his anti-RPG bias was showing
Rip
>>740209772Their development overlapped, so by the time Sticker Star came out, they were too far deep into CS to turn back
>>740208980>Game bad because my e-celeb daddy said soWhy are Nintendo fans like this?
>>740199498Literally no other Nintendo IP’s future has hinged on an online survey. Why did they do it to Paper Mario when SPM still sold well despite the gameplay change?
>>740216774You're not defending Sticker Star get the fuck out
