Games take too long to develop as is while every shareholder-ridden company excises excess expenses (hah), so having a bunch of portable ports of games that aren't just universal engine configurable on PC for PC handhelds is stupid nowadays, never mind making original games solely for such proprietary hardware. Your best bet is ARM architecture getting that FEX support so thoroughly that those chinkhelds and any future alternatives become the next portable series of systems in their own right, and that's still not really a PSP or a DS and so forth.When a top end phone can play Resident Evil 2/4 Remake and handheld devices with mobile chips can run up to Switch emulation give or take performance issues variably while we're already emulating PC games on these devices, there's literally no need for oldschool walled garden handhelds anymore but the novelty and collection. Even besides the AI nightmare and ownership quashing, the most probable future is universal game distribution and play.
