I played SOTN and loved it.
is it as good?
>>
>>740208327
Personally, I like it just a hair more. You'll like it if you like SoTN. All the GBA and DS titles are stellar. Some are not as beloved as others, but they're all worth at least trying.
>>
>>740208327
You get to do more funny shit without wacky inputs, some being equally if not more broken than SotN, but less flashy overall. Still impressive for a GBA though. Romhacks after beating it legit are also fun. One of them even turned AoS into a modified version of SotN weirdly enough.
>>
>>740208327
it's like SotN with high quality production
of course, it loses some of the quirky soul because of that, but the game is extremely well polished
>>
>>740208327
Michael Jackson looks good here
>>
>>740208928
i like SotN for the atmosphere and the music for the most part desu
>>
>>740208327
Yeah. I'd say so. Drop rates for items and souls are cancer though.
>>
>>740208327
It's better than SotN, it's a much more refined version of the same concept. It has less wacky shit like the command input spells and crissaegrim but the core systems are all so much better
>>
Damn near. Definitely worth playing if you liked SotN. Avoid Dawn of Sorrow unless you simply need more Aria action though (and at least grab the Definitive Edition Plus patch if you do). It's a very redundant game.

>>740208327
Best game on the GBA actually
>>
>>740208327
It's way better imo.
>>
>>740208327
Both Sorrow games are amazing. I honestly think they're the best games behind Symphony of the Night.
>>
>>740208327
No. It will literally just feel like a watered down version of SotN. The only good part about the game is the soul catching shit but it's only good in concept, in practice it's not that interesting.

The reason aria is praised so much is because for a GBA game, it's extremely good, but outside of that in the greater context it's very meh. This was actually my first CV EVER and I was heavily disappointed by it and didn't feel anything. Unironically had more fun playing the very first CV game than Aria. SotN is a bit overrated too but it easily wins with superior aesthetics, music, and generally a bit more going on (even if it's ultimately shallow)
>>
>>740208327
music and graphics are worse obviously, sine it's on a shitty handheld. it's still a very good game though
>>
>>740208327
It's not very close, but you have to accept that when it is on a GBA, the boss AI is pretty non existent they just sort of do their own thing if you are there or not outside of 1 or 2. I prefer Dawn, but you do have to just play it without worrying about grinding for optimal stuff and play as the crow flies.

Aria of sorrow has good music and atmosphere too.
>>740209030
Valkyrie soul ftw i always farm valkyries until i get it when i replay the game.
>>
>>740208327
Since it is on GBA don't expect it to look anywhere near as fancy as SotN but all things considered it is still a very pretty GBA game.

The gameplay is better all thanks to the soul system which is really cool, the music while not SotN level is still nice.

I do like the castle layout and areas, Soma is also a cool guy and Julius is top kino.
>>
>>740209030
It's because the luck stat was completely broken. You can use a rom hack to fix it.
>>
>>740208327
i feel like it's too short
>>
>>740208327
Almost. I haven't played all the Castlevania games, but this is my second favorite, with SotN being #1.
>>
>>740210382
It's short if you rush but you are meant to collect all the souls.

He solos the universe of your favorite video game franchise.

>M2 offered to fix it in the castlevania collections, but Konami said no
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
>>
>>740208327
It's better than SotN in every respect except visual style and soundtrack.
>>
>>740210616
I would say that SotN also has a better atmosphere and attention to detail, Alucard also feels better to play as.
>>
>>740210728
>that groddy ass hi-jump
Fuck no.
>>
>>740208327
I'm a big Aria fan.

It isn't derivative, it is a sequel to SotN but the setting and Kirby/soul mechanics with more weapon variety made it interesting. But above that it's FUN nice length nice difficulty. I like the plot even though I thought I wouldn't. Vampire war of '99 excited the imagination.

As has been said, the drop rates are really bad. I wouldn't fault someone for patching the luck stat on their first playthrough if they want to try a big variety of souls, which is how I think the devs intended

But playing vanilla, only getting a few souls, and making due is fine too as it's how most players played it. If you know which souls are OverPowered you'll steamroll but you'll have to grind and I think grinding is always gay.
There are graphics patches too. Big romhack community around these

Aria is way better than it's GBA brethren, both of which I thought were mid
>>
should I play SOTN as my first castlevania
>>
>>740210942
This nibba gets it.
>>
>>740210797
Not a problem if you are a fighting game chad.
>>
SOTN is so fucking janky compared to the GBA games, they're all better.
>>
>>740211009
Sure, go for it.
>>
>>740211050
I am and it's still shit.
>>
>>740210942
>It isn't derivative

Soma has
>white hair
>clothing that flows as he runs
>is a vampire man with magical powers
>box art shows him with a thin Alucard type sword

AoS is literally made for people who were too poor to afford a PS1. It's SotN-lite
>>
>>740211009
yup

>>

>AoS is literally made for people who were too poor to afford a PS1. It's SotN-lite

>not needing to equip a healing item just to use it; can be done from the pause menu as God intended
>you can choose which warp point to travel to, as God intended
I grew up with PS1, liked SotN, liked AoS more.
>>
>>740208327
sure, aria of sorrow is a fun time.
dawn of sorrow too if you want more aria.
>>
>>740208327
Not quite as good but still very good. Music is a noticeable downgrade, but that goes for every CV game after SOTN
>>
>>740211394
u?
>>
>>740208327
It's better
>>
>>740211009
No that's a bitchmade tourist normgroid move. Play the NES games instead. You won't understand SotN.
>>
>>740211262
>AoS is literally made for people who were too poor to afford a PS1
Negro, AoS was released in 2003, by that time the PS2 was already out and PS1 were dirt cheap. You can't even say that about third world countries since PS1 piracy was already king in the late 90s.
>>
>>740211009
Might as well. It's a very easy game
>>

Soma is a better take on Alucard's gameplay but in a deal-with-the-devil Julius is SUBSTANTIALLY worse as a Belmont mode than Richter

Belmonts wouldn't fucking feel good to play again until Harmony of Despair on the PS3/360
>>
>>740213069
I think Richter in portrait of ruin may be even better than SotN because of how he can tackle the tower.
>>
>>740213069
Dawn of Sorrow's Julius Mode was its only improvement over Aria
>>
>>740213472
Isn't he weak as hell in that compared to AoS?
>>
>>740213583
Not particularly as far as I remember but it didn't matter because he wasn't the only playable character. He can't solo the castle anymore, so in that sense, sort of? I do remember that Yoko was very OP.
>>
>>740213583
Having regular access to Holy element keeps him ahead in DPS compared to the other two but he isn't designed to solo Castlevania anymore because le epic CV3 reference
>>
>>740213854
That game atleast for Alucard has 1 frame jump resets by memory so you could mutilate enemies real fast, I imagine a TAS run should have him kill things almost immediately.
>>
I think portrait of ruin feels good like SOTN after aria. dawn is a big downgrade with its retarded DS gimmicks, im talking about the retarded ice cubes that they put there just so you could waggle your autism stick at the screen
>>
>>740214310
Theres barely any ice cubes in the game and the boss glyphs take all of 2 seconds, I'll never understand this narrative that's existed since the 2000s
>>
>>740208327
It's not as good, but it's very similar and only slightly worse.

HoD sucks fucking ass. what a let down after CotM.
thank god AoS had the grace not to have a dark world/inverted castle/second castle nonsense
>>
>>740208327
I preferred it.
>>
I played SOTN after all the GBA and NDS Castlevanias and I can safely say it's overrated.
>>
>>740208327
out of the sotn clones id say aria is the best one

>>740210509
do you have the edit from the sotn prologue?
>>
>>740216867
Another way to say that you lack the taste to understand why SotN is a timeless masterpiece.
>>
>>740208327
>is it as good?
it's alright. The Castle is sinificantly smaller. HoD has a bigger ones if you are into exploration.
Out of the GBA games I enjoyed Circle of the Moon the most but I'm mostly a classicvania guy myself.
>>
>>740208327
It's tied for SotN for the second worse
so yes you'll enjoy it
>>
>>740219585
(you)

?
>>
>>740208327
SOTN is ovrrated garbage. So is Aria of Sorrow.

The peak of 2D Igavania are the DS games. Just buy Castlevania Dominus Collection and play and replay those games, ignore everything else, anyone who tells you otherwise is a low IQ subhuman or nostalgia high subhuman, ignore them.
>>
>>740208327
Yeah it's garbage just like SOTN

It's better in every way(that's not to say SOTN is bad) it's just AOS is vastly superior
