I have a feeling the gameplay is going to be more like Project Wingman. It definitely feels like ACES took some inspiration from PW if the trailer's anything to go by.
>>
to someone whose only plane vidya experience is ace combat 4 and 5, what does it mean to be 'inspired by project wingman'?
>>
What does that mean? Wingman was just an Ace Combat game with overpowered sub weapons.
>>
>>740211386
Hopefully that means the missiles won't be absolutely braindead. I love AC7 but seeing missiles whiff stationary helos occasionally after playing PW really spiked my blood pressure.
>>
>>740211561
Don't forget how the guns in PW were actually useful, too.
>>
>>740211493
PW was more aggressive and you dodge a lot missile whereas in ac games you barely ever going to use flares
>>
>linking a video that doesn't go live for 7 hours
Dumb OP.
>>
>>740211493
PW had infinite flares and obnoxious missile spam so I hope it did not copy anything else off PW other than getting 2 special weapons
>>
>>740211698
AC7 was just constant handbrake turns. The planes in PW flew normally and this meant you needed the bare minimum of dogfighting skills to attack and defend.
>>
>>740211493
PW had a really strong cannon with generous hitboxes and more flexibility with special weapons

In terms of level design, very high target density, more dangerous SAMs, on higher difficulties enemy aircraft were very good at evading missiles and very aggressive.
>>
>>740211757
Don't act like missiles on expert in AC7 are any better. Yes, there's less missile spam but the missiles won't stop chasing you for a while.
>>
QUICK POST YOUR PLANEFU
>>
>>740211767
3 special weapons, actually. You didn't have to screw yourself if you brought anti ship missiles because you could also bring other stuff. The best plane in AC7 is the one that just lets you fire lots of multirole missiles, because then you have no weakness in your loadout.

turboprops when?
>>
>>740212364
Turboprops are useless in Ace Combat and in real life their only use is to bomb terrorists and cartel members.
>>
>>740212138
JSF is a strike craft that has really really good self-defense AA capabilities.
NGAD and GCAP are dedicated interceptors that solely exist to fuck other aircraft.
>>
>>740212138
>casualised
you say that like the games havent always been piss easy outside of a few difficulty spikes. 7 is probably the hardest game in the series even with its generous check pointing
>>
>>740212138
F22 is like late 90s tech, F35 is not made for long range operation or the same level of performance
GCAP/NGAD want to do the same concept but with 2020+ software and tech improvements
>>

And even that wouldn't be copying. Bamco already did it in Joint Assault.
>>
>>740211386
So I can now shoot civilian airliners, do a Pearl Harbor and commit warcrimes by killing retreating enemy combatants in Ace Combat?
>>
>>740212842
You could already commit war crimes in AC0. You bombed civilians in Hoffung and you could shoot down any damaged aircraft.
>>
>>740211987
It wasn't that good but the tunnel run was fun and the final boss was at least an interesting exercise in making a plane game boss fight.
>>
>>740212842
>and commit warcrimes by killing retreating enemy combatants in Ace Combat?
Not how it works, retreating enemies are 100% valid targets. Retreating and surrendering are mutually exclusive actions.
>>
>>740212138
F-22 is 30 years old platform and F-35 is multi purpose fighter instead of a dedicated air defense fighter.

the base level of skill in ace combat has always been too easy. it's never felt like something to seek your teeth into and git gud at, basic flight being guaranteed and the challenge from memorizing whatever bullshit is thrown at you. getting a hit in a dogfight should feel more special.

>>740215758

It was definitely better before they introduced high G turns. The games have always been easy but the player's maneuverability was in the same ballpark as the enemies so dogfighting felt somewhat like dogfighting and they didn't have to rely on missile spam to reintroduce difficulty.
>>
>>740215758
The mountain pass mission in AC7 is harder than any dogfight.
>>
>>740216127
Yeah high G turn is such a gay I win button. they should balance it like in war thunder where your pilot goes unconscious and you insta crash if you go too high G.

>>
>>740215998
it's the same reason why ac5/6 were only available with 7 preorders. aircraft manufacturers (most every defense/arms manufacturer really) are tremendously jewish about their ip. bamco, also being jews, clearly have no desire to renegotiate the deals for the older games.
>>
>>740215998
it's IP rights, happens everywhere. It's the same reason you can't watch some old TV shows with their original licensed soundtracks, can't buy some old games with licensed cars or some series can't ever get a sequel because either the company that owned the rights died or got split into 10 other companies that will never work together.
People that own the rights charge out of the ass for perpetual licenses that most creative projects aren't willing to pay so everything has an expiration date, and any re-releases would require a whole new deal. Nothing is really preventing them from doing, it's most likely just too expensive for something small like a port.

it's retarded that you even need to license aircraft and cars if you want to use their real names in video games. IP law is devil work
>>
>>740216393
Dogfight mode completely kills that game. Otherwise its got some decent setpieces and the plot, while dime-a-dozen, isn't totally horrible. But DFM is the most retarded shit in the franchise period.
>>
>>740216395
If what you're saying is true then wouldn't Bamco be violating those license agreements by releasing AC0 with AC8 if it only applies to that game or are they trying to bypass it by including AC0 since then that would technically still be one game and they won't have to pay for more licenses?
>>
>>740216543
Besides plot mandated bullshit was it even able to be ignored?
>>
>>740216574
NTA but it's been years since I played AH so what I might say might not be true. You can dogfight normal enemies without going into DFM to some degree. They are still agile as fuck, especially on the higher difficulties, but if you keep going you can take them down. Squadron leaders (TGT_LEADs) are next to impossible to kill without DFM.
>>
>>740216428
It's completely retarded that ace combat uses licensed aircraft in the first place. The game isn't set on earth, its got retarded stories about scifi super weapons and anime melodrama, increasingly the people who are into the series aren't plane fuckers so they wouldn't be able to tell either way. plane fuckers are also weird and rare in the first place because its impossible for any of them to have first hand experience with these jets, unlike cars where every normie has a certain car they are familiar with or attached to.

They really should just get rid of the licenses and invent their own manufacturers, it's cooler for a scifi adjacent series to do this. They are wasting so much potential revenue and IP mindshare over time by locking their history behind this pointless barrier.
>>
>>740216547
they are definitely violating the licensing agreement but blamco is just betting on the manufacturers not being bothered to litigate since it is only available for a limited time as a preorder bonus. and history has proven them right because they have already done it

I dont care about the money or IP, I care about the fact that the series cannot gather new fans without them being autistic enough to emulate and that they have no revenue stream to keep project aces alive. The constant stream of new fans and old game sales basically guarantee DMC will always have new entries. I think half or more of capcoms sales are now from old titles that just hang around on digital platforms, this is an alternative to this constant season pass, gaas dogshit which AC is now forced to chase.

There are enemies you have to DFM no matter what. Markov has to take you through certain areas of Miami and DC to progress the stages. It's multiplayer where DFM is 100% optional.
>>
>>740217068
I think they should have a small team that remakes the old games and replaces all licensed aircraft with their own models and new aircraft manufacturers. These can then be reused in any future prequels. I hate remakes but this is atleast preferable to shifting the series into another GAAS abomination which is inevitable on their current course.

ACI had enough ground enemies that you could a lot of points from them even if there were no super valuable ones. And you needed someone to do it anyway, it's not like they were going to kill themselves.
Ideal four player team composition for standard maps was 2 fighters who went for air and 2 multiroles/attackers who went for ground. I played that game way too fucking much so I'm an expert on this subject.

Back in the day, those licenses were cheap enough that it made more sense to just use them. It's like how Netflix used to have everything, because they bought all the rights for pennies when "digital distribution" was a joke. How were they meant to know that 30 years later companies would expect you to pay an absurd amount to stick "F-16" on a menu screen?

>>740211386
>I have a feeling the gameplay is going to be more like Project Wingman. It definitely feels like ACES took some inspiration from PW if the trailer's anything to go by.
This statement makes absolutely zero sense given that PW just took the most basic AC missions and gameplay but made it worse, due to terrible AI and lack of actual funds and expertise to make combat more than just enemies beeswarming the player.
>>

Literally what made the franchise interesting in the first place and why it still has a fanbase among aviation fans.

And look at the alternative. Unless you get something goated like the delphinus that had story relevance you just get NOT REAL mock fighters that look like actually real planes but are TOTALLY not real planes. Which is super gay.

it's weird 'cause AC's old sister series ridge racer has been fictional cars from the start, and it's pretty much the only series like that where all the original cars are actually (mostly) original with their own company backstories and design language evolving over time and so on, the opposite of GTA-type games where you do get the "real cars but we changed the badges so they're 'not actually a ford' cars"
>>
I don't even see why they need to get licenses to have real-life planes modeled and named in the game. Copyright law doesn't really apply here and the case for trademark infringement seems really weak. I always felt like game developers paid for those simply because aircraft manufactures are too big to risk a direct confrontation against rather than out of any legal rational. Activision did win that case against Humvee a while ago and it really feels like the same situation here.

Using current jets make it feel grounded while the Si-fi stuff makes it really feel you are up against superior odds when they appear. Using a fictional word just gives them a means to do anything with the story without making certain countries mad while designing their own missions without relying on existing geomerty.
For example they can put the grand canyon in not-europe and just make a cool mission. Also they can just shift the odds in fictional countries and keep it believable instead of having Russia invade the Us for the zillioneth time.

6's gun was insanely strong so that's both expected and good. Even though it was funny using the A-10 and being able to do like 50 missiles worth of damage in a few seconds.

>Considering the global satellite network exploded
It's been 10 years after that and considering how fast Strangereal seems to pump out superweapons I won't be surprised if the global satellite network was restored in a timely manner. Then again, maybe the FCU isn't as stupid as Osea to make it so that their IFF or entire military network relies on satellites.
>ISEV is breaking down/being attacked
That's the thing that's gotten me curious. If Osea still has control of the ISEV, wouldn't they get involved with the war in Usea again of Sotoa threatened its existence? But if Erusea controls Selatapura again, and by extension the ISEV, they could get involved too. Rosa was in the trailer so maybe the Eruseans will be allies now?

If they're going to let you pick two weapons they really need to increase the options. Go back to 6 style and have four specials per plane at least. With this setup you're not even picking the ones you want, you're picking the single one you don't.
>>
I love Tasha already. Hope they don't kill her off.
>>
>>740231831
They removed the pulse laser guns that everyone loved in AC7, too. They kept in high G turns but removed our PLSL!
>>
>>740231530
It's a reasonable request with a real plane, if you can line up for a shot with the guns you can go for the wings
But in AC there's no such thing as breaking off a wing
>>
>>740231837
Bring the SU-35 with LAAMs. Lock onto the targets and hold the change target button so you recognize them faster. When the bomber comes focus only on the bombers until they're dead, ignore the escorts and any ground targets left. Same goes for the mass driver ship, focus only on it.
>>
>>740231837
If you know it's an enemy, you don't have to do the whole ID thing, just blow em up
You might also want to consider using different special weapons, stuff designed for taking out distant air targets like LAAM or PLSL (be mindful that PLSL gets countered by clouds)

I highly doubt Bamco is going to bother with a full-on remake of Electrosphere. Back in 1999, it was one of Namco's most expensive games but they got nothing in returns. Bamco now knows how AC3 is liked, the Japanese version at least, but considering AC3 was a net negative dunno if they'll bother with that.

Can someone give a brief rundown of the Ace Combat games before 7 and whether they're worth playing?
>>
>>740235782
All the numbered games are worth playing
X as well
You can play Infinity now but it's unfinished and more for pve multiplayer content (which you can also play)
For 3 you want the translated Japanese version because the International version is missing 4/5ths of its content
Assault Horizon sucks but Assault Horizon Legacy is just a remake of 2 so it's good
Joint Assault is jank but has coop
>>
>>740235782
I would say they're all worth it. You can skip 1 and 2 though since they're far more arcadeish than the ones after and also don't have any story. 3 is a bit unique since it's very "Japanese", you should give it a try and judge by yourself whether you can enjoy it or not. As far as I know the US release is gutted and does not have any story, so you'll have to get the Jap one.
4-7 are all great, though 6 is a bitch due to emulation issues. I think you can basically just deal with the series in any way you want, you could play in a random order or just start from 1 and make your way up like I did.

They are mostly really good
1 is pretty basic and 2 has GREAT gameplay but it's not as engaging as future entries

4 5 and 0 are the distilled essence of AC
from there the games have been trying to introduce gimmicks they also drop immediately in the next entry

Air Combat: an arcade port without much plot, as far as I understand.

Ace Combat 2: the Zone Of Endless (ZOE) AI starts a war, you shoot her down.

Ace Combat 3: An elaborate simulation of the corporate-dominated Usea of the 2040s concocted by a vengeful scientist, all to ensure that the sublimated personality of a man he blames for the death of the girl he liked will be destroyed no matter what.

Ace Combat 4: Erusea invades the rest of the Usean continent with the support of the Stonehenge anti-meteor railgun array (made to try and counter the Ulysses meteor which fucked up Strangereal to a heavy degree). An international coalition pushes the Eruseans back to their capital city.

Ace Combat 5: Crypto-Belkans in the Osean government start a war between Osea and Yuktobania as part of an elaborate revenge plot for the events of...

Ace Combat 0: Belka invades their neighbours, and a coalition pushes back until Belka nukes themselves seven times. Ideologues then steal another nuke and try to use it for their own ends (the removal of global borders)

Ace Combat 6: Estovakia invades Emmeria, but the Emmerians manage to liberate themselves.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon: Not set on Strangereal. It's Call of Duty with jets and all the worst trappings of the 7th console generation.

I haven't even touched the portable games. All worth playing except AssHor.

There was talk about doing a shooter a long time ago, set in Sapin
It'd be fun to be part of Bravo during the ground attack inside Megalith

>the objective is to protect nemos's targets and ultimately defeat them
>the main drive for this is that you have a emotional/blood connection with the targets, specially your wingmen
>the twist is that the wingmen are real, we are a AIthe emotional connection is all fake
>we then either destroy nemo or merge with them

I was really kinda hoping that the slow speed aerial moves were going to changed to imitate PW, but it doesn't look like it. It was absolutely useless in AC7, the speed requirement was so low that you'd spend about three seconds airbraking before you could do it. PW didn't give a shit, it'd let you do it under a 1000 knots or something like that.

I've always advocated for Battlefield's modern-era entries to just set themselves in a Strangereal-type world rather than pretend that Russia is an actual threat.

Captain Ishaq's voice is way better in japanese unfortunately

There's one good reason to play Assault Horizon.

Does anyone have recommendations for flight sticks
>>

I recommend not using a stick for Ace Combat.

The twist is a huge part of AC3's narrative though, after a few routes you'll be asking the questions of why you can't side with Dision and why things keep going to shit, and the final reveal explains everything. Knowing the twist in advance basically takes away all of the mystique that gives an incentive to keep trying the other routes.

>Obviously a faithful remake of something as ambitious as 3 is impossible.
You guys talk about it like it's fucking Baldur's Gate 3 or something. It's a game full of reused assets and similar missions taking place in the same maps across different routes. The overall size of the game isn't any bigger than the newer games which have focused on campaigns where every map is distinct. The only reason a remake would be impossible is because of the enshittification of game companies where for most of them simply meeting the same level of quality they once did is an impossibility.

I happened to stumble on that line in a Japanese video and it's kind of a bad translation. He should be saying please don't aim at the cockpit, which is a lot more reasonable.

wait did they really delist Ass Horizon from steam kek
>>
>>740240356
Yup. Probably licensing issues which is why they are "giving" Zero away as a pre-order bonus.

I'm fucking convinced that if this game does well, we'll finally see an Ace Combat anime.

Such a big explanation of how the game works and its still just another "wait for lkong and press circle game"
Ace combat gameplay has not evolved at all since Ac1

The parts system made its debut in AH and was in 7 too. It looks like the blocks are gone though, somehow, that'll make a plane even more overpowered, late tree placments? lol

I've noticed a lot of people are stuck in that grind. I hope its not willingly. I don't know why they' want to subjegate themselves to that hell.

Experiencing some natural progression is alright, not everyone wants to jump to instant max level on everything
Though it's a problem when the two groups mix and people just don't have fun, which is unfortunate
