Of the 3 new Doom games, was Doom 2016 the best one? I remember 2016 had unique glory kills, detailed demons, and didn't include the gayass story that followed in the later games.
>>740211519Doom 2016 is the best one. Eternal has a meta and thats gay. Dark ages was made for game journalists.
Doom Eternal is the best one.The reason now you see Doom 2016 threads is because it is popular in Eastern Europe and Asia because they just now can run it (without snap maps).Which proofs my old theory.Slavs love decade old games.Join me in 2032 when Eternal is finally playable in Slovenia and given the title of best FPS ever created by the entire population of the Balkans and once more in 2038 when we finally agree Dark Ages was just fine.Meanwhile enjoy a decade of slavs shit talking Quake V.
>>7402115192016 was the best because it had the least bullshit. Never played Dark Ages because Eternal rubbed me the wrong way.
>>740211519>was Doom 2016 the best one?maybe on planet retard
>>7402115192016 is the worst one, the game feels more like Halo than doom, at least newer releases felt more like quake
>>740214136give it a shot, it isn't an 'Eternal 2', it does its own thing
>>740214136>>740211641Doom 2016: W+M1Doom Eternal: W+M1+Mouse Wheel+M1
>>740211519Eternal reigns supreme.2016 is a decent single player FPS. For me, I felt it ran out of ways to challenge the player half-way through, unless you're scorewhoring with arcade mode. There's some hard weapon balance issues like the railgun and some genuinely shit re-designs of classic DOOM monsters with the Mancubus and Cyberdemon. I'm not even going to mention vestigial systems I had to pay for like snapmap and the arena multiplayer. As complete as it is, I'd probably put it on par with Dark Ages, or maybe slightly ahead.
Eternal's my favorite, 2016 has merits, Dark Ages is some weird entirely different thing.
>>740211519>2016Guns look like guns>2020Guns look like parodies of guns>2025"Guns" barely resemble anything. Most like scifi plumbing
>>740211519Eternal. I dont give a fuck about the lore, thank god its all skippable, but the gameplay is probably one of the best single player FPS designs ever which is surprising coming from an AAA. '16 is okay but I wouldn't replay it again when eternal exists, same with dark ages though maybe that might get better with the dlc who knows.
Eternal was great for the amount of combat options you have and you can even lean into the least powerful options and still come out on top. I even beat the whole thing in UN with a controller to prove one anon you did not need to play like a schizo on cocaine. The only problem is that the level design demanded very complex levels that used vertical space, reason creating a level for Eternal takes ages. All in all, what Eternal needed was the level design of Arcane Dimensions or Ultrakill. Something that loops around with meanignful secret areas but it is genuinely the best AAA game released, and you need to find me a game with better enemy AI because I swear nothing comes close.Dark Ages felt like Id Software addressing directly all the dumb idiots nitpicking on Eternal. Eternal was a filter that even makes some anons here butthurt, taking me back to the first Demon's Souls threads.DA is slow, monotonous and the level design ids far more simplistic.I genuinely hoping the expansion turns things around like TAG for Eternal. I have hope the Archvile can rescue the game.
>>740214254You speak as if it was a tortanic level flop disaster. It was just a mid game. They'll be fine though they might be less inclined to experiment in the future.
I feel like 2016 is honestly the hardest game on Nightmare by a significant margin although that may just be that the way I actually like to play gels the best with Eternal. It's about as simple as "fodder kills you in two hits and you get less health and armor from all sources." but there's a bit more, like>fodder enemies can charge up fireballs to hit you as soon as you leave a glory kill/chainsaw, you can instantly die from full health and armor if there are other factors like another enemy up close to punch you as soon as you leave it>INSTANT death if you bungle a jump, GG if you're on ultra nightmare>first part of the game where you don't have the juice for proper quickswap combos and are forced to maneuver in on enemies that kill you in two hits to deal with themLike, in Eternal if you make a mistake you flame belch a crowd of demons, shred them and you're back up. In 2016 if you take a bad hit it's going to be awhile before you're back up to anywhere near full health. If you want to be aggressive (which is what nudoom is about) you can get punished way harder for that.
>>740214254Dark Ages is still getting a purportedly huge DLC so it can't be that much of a write off. There can also just be no DOOM game in active production. The series isn't Call of Duty.Surely after Wolfenstein and DOOM, Quake is next.
>>740211519doom 2016 is a mediocre but relatively inoffensive reboot. doom eternal tries to expand on it, and does so in the most dogshit, heavyhanded, and brainless way possible (we saw a speedrun of doom 2016, and we believe that everyone who touches the game should be REQUIRED to play exactly like that). the dark ages is mass market slop for mental retards.
>>740214602hugo did say that he would be happy if they just kept on making doom games forever and doom is an actively pretty popular series even if dark ages is definitely a low point
>>740211519I wish the bodies felt meatier in these games, they somehow feel like lifeless rocks compared to something like killing floor 2
>>740214212>not having keybinds for every weaponHuh, i guess i see why tards hated this one.
>>740211519Eternal had the gayest story ever. Then niggers said that you're supposed to ignore the story and play for the gameplay, but the gameplay was just swinging around like prince of Persia and hearing "blep blep" and seeing a low ammo warning every two seconds cos heaven forbid you want to shoot more than four fucking dudes with any given gun at a time.
>>740214721That dude must be retarded I distinctly remember reaching all the way across my keyboard to press 8 to use the chaingun and never thought to change the bind lol
2016 is the best baseKaiser Eternal is the best overall
>>740214721>>740214765The point of that post was to make fun of people who think Eternal is complicated. You literally just change weapons, any weapon does it.There is no need to be more specific. What you essentially did here was something a kin calling me a retard while you two dropped your pants and shat on the floor going "nyeh huh nyeh" then drooled all over yourselves.I can't believe we are in the same fanbase.
>>740214837>Kaiser Eternal is the best overallYeah in 2021.Restoration Mod.Custom ML campaign.Let's fucking go!
the bottom line is that nu doom has a skillcap enforced by console controllers. eternal going balls deep into the resource management juggling was the only path forward while not leaving behind the lcd playing on controller.
>>740214753>seeing a low ammo warning every two secondsHow else could they force all the unnecessary and convoluted combat mechanics on you?
>>740214465ID keeps on trying to add things in-between combat encounters for the sake of pacing and variety, but honestly I think that would be solved by having more exploration and secret hunting in between large encounters instead of platforming or the mech/dragon segments from DA.
>>740211519Doom 2016 was a shit made for consoles with controller controls in mind, slow gameplay (to pander to consolefags), and finishes from Brutal Doom. It was basically an adaptation of the original DOOMs to modern audiences (read: shit).Doom Eternal at least introduced something new: fast-paced gameplay, fast map traversal, and limited ammo, forcing players to make strategic decisions. It had entirely different gameplay style compared to original DOOMs and Zoom 2016.Didn't play Dark Ages since gameplay trailers looked like shit.
>>740215321Yeah, Tears of the False God from Arcane Dimensions is the perfect Doom Eternal level. It even plays like it with the level climax being a big fucking arena.Sadly it is going to be a long time before we get PCs good enough to mod Eternal to reach that level intricacy.
>>740211519I bought Doom eternal when it came out, but it asked me to create an account so I never played it. Wish I had refunded when I had the chance
>>740211519>turn based Doom Why?
>>740215130>being this reductiveAnti eternals are hilarious
>>740215321They tried that a little bit in TDA, they have the big exploration heavy levels- the exploration just isn't very fun.
>>740215218The sad thing is, by forcing you into using them in such a restrictive way, they nullify them as mechanics. They're just the specific steps you follow to engage with the combat, not interesting things you can do during the combat in order to gain the advantage etc.
>>740215691After watching the interviews you sort of understand why they got pigeon holed into that kind of design. The director talks about how he wanted the game to be a fast paced tactical game where you HAVE to switch weapons to stay alive, but he couldnt figure out how to do it organically. He recounts how in one of the long gameplay reveals he basically tried to play in a way that looked like you had to do this, but in reality the game was still designed to be piss easy like '16 where sticking to the super shotgun wouldve solely trivialized all the encounters he showed off where he used like 6 guns. After that he heavily revamped the gameplay to make it more like a rigid loop. And it works for me desu, but it is very divisive as you can see from literally every weekly doom thread
They are all kinda shit but eternal was absolute cringe slop, it's more of an inspector gadget autism simulator where tards compete to see how many guns they can pull out their ass per minute, it's also very jewish and therefore even more cringe inducing, you can smell the game. I couldn't stand playing for more than 30 minutes and had to refund Anyhow the game was so bad it marked the end of bethslop and microslop and everything associated with it
