156 GIGABYTES!
>>
>>740220040
you don't need to have installed 500 games at once.
>>
>>740220040
What the hell is a gigabyte(pronounced jigabite)
>>
My internet is so slow it takes 3-4 days to download a 100gb game
>>
>>740220040
And disk space was never less a problem than now because it's impossible to find more than 2 of those games you'd even consider installing.
>>
>>740220040
Why is that an issue op? Imagine having less that 8TB of avaliable storage
>>
>>740220182
>500 games
That's less than 1 ARK Ascended with no additional maps.
>>
>>740220240
Australian?
>>
>>740220330
That is not what he meant at all
>>
>>740220312
No human being needs more than 4TB
>>

American. I live in the middle of a city, but only one company will service this apartment complex and it's an absolute ripoff. My friend a few miles away pays the same for his 100 gb fiber internet as I do my 10 mb net.

fucking christ what a joke of a game, what was the explantation btw? So it could run on HDD?
>>
>>740220550
I'm using my grandma's 20mb takes like 8hr to download 60-70gb. Shouldnt take days. And yes I'm Australian. I have 100mb at my place which is the fastest I can get.
>>
>>740220040
why does doc pronounce it as jhee-ga rather than ghee-ga?
>>
The entire NES/Famicom library is 300MB, btw.
>>
>>740220719
I notoriously hates those jiggas from the middle east
>>
>>740220040
>have enough space to download the shitty 150GB slop game

Why is this allowed?

I work for my ISP so mine is free hehe
>>
>>740220698
I'm not getting the full 10mbps on my downloads. I typically cap my download speeds at 6.5mbps during the day so I can still use my internet without videos buffering or websites failing to load properly.
>>
I have 25 tb of storage on my pc and I still plan on installing more
>>
>>740220719
The Bobs went to a science lecture where someone pronounced it like that.
>>
>>740220040
I refuse to download a game more than 50gb
SSDs can't be rewritten endlessly you know
>>
>>740220665
The explanation for why it was made at all?
People think they needed money and ARK 2 wasn't (and still isn't) ready. Apparently the publisher blew it all on failed gaming cars.
>>
>>740220040
It's mind boggling how normal this has become. I have a good buddy irl who has the most shit taste in games, but always wants to play games with me. I'm not exaggerating when I say 30 seconds into a Helldivers 2 match all he wants to do is tk and run around in circles, but he's constantly begging me to install 100+gb linear slop like Dead Island 2 or some Far Cry bullshit.

When I tell him I have maybe 1 game I play that takes up that much space and the the vast majority are under 20gb, his brain explodes. The list of good games over 100gb is VERY short, but the list of great games under 10gb or even 40gb is miles long. I'm so tired of bloated file sizes, being forced to download 4k textures I will literally never make use of, etc. Rapes your drive for no fucking reason
>>
>>740220195
A Gigabyte is 1000 (actual 1024) Megabytes. Which itself is 1000 (1024) Kilobytes. Which is 1000 (1024) Bytes, which are 8 Bits. Be aware, STORAGE (space) is measured in BYTES, while SPEED (network throughput) is measured in BITS.

Worms Armageddon is 500mb. Any game that is over that in size has to contend with whether or not it's more fun than Worms Armageddon.
>>
>>740220040
Marvel rivals recently added an option to remove some of the higher resolution textures to bring your filesize down a bit, hopefully we see more of that sort of thing in future

Looked it up and someone said they switched to uncompressed textures so it's easier to run, like you said.
>>
>>740222184
I know it's hard but you might have to delete some of your dolphin porn.
>>
>>740222669
interesting, was/is the same in vermintide 2 where they used an exemple of having multiple chair asset so the HDD didn't have to load it. Thanks for looking up
>>
>>740221506
Don't forget that some chucklefucks were like "Umm, you're using SI prefixes for something that's 2^10 instead of 2^10! That's bad!" and now mega-, giga-, etc. bytes are "officially" actually based on 1000s and you're supposed to use "mebibytes" and "gibibytes" for the 1024 ones (MiB, GiB, etc.).
Windows doesn't give a shit and calls "gibibytes" gigabytes. Hard drive manufacturers use the decimal gigabytes. And that's why when you buy a "1 TB" drive it only shows up as being 931 GB in Windows.

You can switch windows over to using decimal so I don't see how the EU could help. Maybe make it mandatory to express storage size in both decimal and binary on the packaging?

>Jigawatts
Was that the common pronounciation in 1955, or did the actor just flub it and because the film had a troubled production they just went ahead instead of doing a retake?
>>
>>740220040
Because decompressed assets only bloat the file size and take longer to download. But compressed assets need to be decompressed by the game, either on the fly or on start up. That can cause bad performance, increase load times or cause micro stutters. In general they require better hardware. Decompressed assets only require more storage space. But nobody wants to talk about that.
>>
>>740220195
It's pronounced jiff like the peanut butter brand.

That sounds like it would be full of modern games in like 3 years time

reminds me of helldivers 2, they reduced the install size from like 140gb down to 20gb because they were just too lazy to do it before

I invested in a bluray burner for long term storage.

It really sucks how we've abandoned disc based storage development.

iirc jhee-ga as in 'joule' is correct latin pronunciation and it's probably what academic lectures used back in the 80s
