I think the telling part is that Nintendo, who have never been particularly strong in the UK market (some exceptions aside) since the SNES/MegaDrive days, is handily outselling both Microsoft and Sony. And during the early phase of a new gen (for them), at that. Normally, you wouldn't see this until later in a Nintendo console gen, and even then usually with exceptions i.e the Switch. Then combine that with them also steadily outselling Xbox and PlayStation in America this year, and Japan? We don't even need to bring that up; it's a Nintendo stronghold at this point. Suddenly time-honored narratives are starting to fall apart, and companies like Microsoft and SIE/Sony largely have no one but themselves to blame. Yes, I do see PS5 sales improving somewhat once Wolverine & GTA6 release; Xbox sales in theory should get a bump, too. And maybe for Sept-Nov PS5 narrowly outsells Switch 2 in America with that + Switch 2 price increase happening. And really, when we're talking about PlayStation, the overall trends in what's been happening with PS5 the past couple of years, and what will likely continue for the rest of this year and 2027, are creating a very rough environment for PS6 to thrive when it's inevitably launched in 2027/2028, IMHO. I'm not necessarily talking about pricing, but rather deflation of interest among even hardcore players who'd constitute the early adopters, let alone other core games, the casuals & mainstream (though the latter two would be more likely disinterested due to higher costs). That's just in isolation; no competition needed.
