Not a journalist, but he is a valid critic. That said, he is sort of a retard about the mirrors. I didn't see the npc walking into one, but I did meet the NPC talking about how her sister disappeared when playing near a mirror and around the last generator the news article literally says something about monsters in mirrors. Should be enough hint that. That said, I wouldn't mind dropping a scholar NPC next to every mirror if some poor bastard hadn't figured it out at that point.
>>
>>740242495
I'm clearly not as bright as the devs who don't let you bind your mouse input to the controls.
>>
>>740242571
His preferences and his criticisms are practically random. And he straight up hates multiple genres, making his own tastes much more narrow than the average player. He just finds some niggling little aspect and harps on it regardless of it being a big deal... which is fine if you're a heckler, but not a reviewer.

I know you consolefags will worship your thumb torturing devices until the day you die, but not that many people share your masochistic fetish. Unless a game provides finer control with console controller sticks than with M+KB or KB only, there's no biomechanical advantage to be found.

When you go back to Lionel's manor, the HUGE mirror in the foyer has an NPC you've never seen before walk up to and INTO THE REFLECTION.

The fact that every area has a mirror and the center of the map has a giant one should already be a massive hint towards the fact they are connected and that you can probably walk into them, even if you don't talk to the little girl or see the npc walk into it.

>>
>>740244747
>You cannot dig in earth, jump long and dig into deep water.
I mean it functions pretty much like a hole you can dig through. Without a trinket you can't dig back into regular ground without doing a normal jump anyway.
>>
>>740244771
A game mechanic in 2026 should be explained via gameplay and not by looking up a manual. This is game design 101. Even then. It's not well explained. The manual just mentions that you are able to swim. Nowhere is it stated how to do that. No mention of deep and shallow water or how to jump in to trigger it. It is really not intuitive.
>>
>equip the sturdy soles
>move at normal speed in deep water burrowing
>this trivializes the whole zone
lol

Except demanding fealty and villainizing people who said "ALL lives matter." And the worshiping of a fent-fueled criminal who died because of his own bad choices.

But at least we have more cameras on police... which shows normal people the absolute horseshit they have to deal with while babysitting adults.
>>
>>740245051
The devs said that not having a detailed map was a conscious decision
probably because, looking at a fanmade detailed map, it's a fucking mess that doesn't fit neatly into a square like LA's map

I actually kind of hated the demo but I still ended up giving it a chance and bought it and damn I'm having a blast. It's been years since I've had such a good time exploring. The best thing about this game's exploration is that when you find a hidden area, it doesn't just hand you a reward, there's at least one or two rooms of challenge attached to it. Finding the pipe to the railway tracks on the farm and then exploring the tunnel was ludokino.

I 100% the game a couple days ago but I slightly agree with the mirror thing. Of course, I immediately realized it when I literally saw the NPC walk into the giga mirror, but that was after I had left the Crypt and it was mildly annoying walking back to the Crypt mirror. I even went to the mirror room while exploring the Crypt for the first time and thought the mirror was just decorative. The little mouse NPC talking about her sister isn't even really a hint either because it can be interpreted as flavor text or something else not relevant because that mirror is inaccessible for a long time.

>-BLM is not an organization
There was an official BLM that everyone donated money to.
Also this is a complete non-sequitur. There is no official antifa but if someone wants to donate to antifa, and finds their local cell or whatever and gives them $20k, it would still be "funding antifa" even if there's no central organisation.

>giving YCG money today does not go towards any "BLM" organizations
It repays money to them after they gave it away to a cause that I am opposed to. They have also shown a tendency to fund causes that I am opposed to; they've been strapped for cash trying to get Mina out, but if they're successful enough to start having spare money again, they could easily do the same thing again.

Are these commentors unironic bots? What the fuck?
In the top half he explains in detail how much the game beats you over the head with how you can enter mirrors. And even mentions the NPC that walks into the mirror, where the game is all but directly telling you to try to do the same thing.
Then in the very next line he calls it obscure.

And most of the comments under the video appear to be in agreement that it is obscure. Not because they somehow weren't aware of all the hints. But in spite of being aware of all the hints, they still don't get it.
What the fuck?

There's an upgrade to the underlabs that lets you keep a permanent copy of any sidearm you want, and an upgrade that lets you carry two sidearms. So you can effectively have three at your disposal without having to go searching for one. That and there's very few places in the world that outright require a specific sidearm, probably only 2 or 3 for each one.

>>
>>740253000
To be a doubles advocate, that guy's point is
>the game gives you a ton of hints
>but it never actually teaches you through gameplay
In other words, it's not really some grand secret where if you solve it you feel really clever, but at the same time if you don't pay attention to environmental clues you can still just miss it. Whereas if the game had done something like put you in a room where a mirror is the only exit, players would be forced to figure it out even if they hadn't paid any attention otherwise.

I don't agree with him because paying attention to the world is important and good. But at the same time people think Mina is a soulslike where you just rollslop your way past enemies, so I can kinda see why someone might get mad that they have to actually think about environmental clues and not just rollsop through linear levels.

>>
>>740256049
I think the fact that when you walk up to mirrors, the only prompt is the action prompt that just makes Mina look at herself. The fact that this is the only thing you can do when you encounter the mirrors for the first time, it kinda teaches people "yeah this mirror doesn't really do anything but look at how you can see Mina's face! cool, right? okay bye." Like the other anon said, the only real hint is seeing the scholar walk into the mirror very blatantly. People bringing up the little sister mouse NPC isn't really a point because it's not really a hint. Might as well say the snake guy in the crypt talking about the guy in the red shawl is a hint too (because it's not).

It's a solid action adventure, solid open world, though level scaling does mean you're somewhat funneled into the same areas early game. The world is very detailed, 99% of secrets are telegraphed well, build variety is pretty varied despite there being only 5 weapons, and it has a solid amount of actual platforming challenges that can be completely trivialised with the right trinkets. The only downsides to it are the story is really pulled back, the sheer NPC variety and personalities doing a lot of heavy-lifting on the predictable barebones narrative. It's a very gameplay-centric game that still expects you to be invested in the world, so it can make it hard to care for secret hunting, which could make the game harder since a lot of the rewards are trinkets and money. Also mouse sexo.

Keyboard/Mouse is only superior for FPS and RTS games (maybe TPS too). Every non-Nintendo controller on the market even doubles as a PC controller, so you have a plethora of options. I don't know why you'd shoot yourself in the foot and willingly hunch over a keyboard for a platformer or a top-down game.

Do controllers NOT have d-pads? You just contradicted yourself.
But anyway, the GBC did not have a stick of any kind. So obviously the intent was D-pad primarily. But I've been playing largely with the thumbstick and it's been fine so I don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Combine it with the medallion trinket that makes you not lose yellow hp, and if you want the quick heal one. When your health reaches zero, you can live on borrowed time for few seconds to max your healing and get back to full.

You can probably combine it with Bonnet too, since you are on 0hp most of the tough boss fights.

The SNES controls thing is necessitated by the fact that it needs more buttons for convenience. Which is really quite fine. Worst part about GB Zeldas is you only have 2 buttons to work with and constantly have to rebind your items because of it.
And personally, I do feel like platforming is easier on controller, but it depends on what you're used to I suppose.

best game since silksong, and I liked it almost as much. very solid 9/10. only real complaint is that it feels a bit bullshit before you start finding the good items/weapons/trinkets and way too easy too fast once you do, but i guess that's what later replays with self-imposed / cheevo-chasing limitations and difficulty-increasing modifiers are for

I think the rat's really cute though and a little sad there aren't many other characters on that level, a bunch of reasonably charming npc's but a ton of fugly ones, unnecessary h*mans everywhere almost all of whom are fugly as hell except like the duke and guy you went to school with, music is mostly awesome but to my personal tastes i kinda prefer most Kaufman's other ost's that focus on extreme catchiness, while Mina has some of those it's mostly focused on atmosphere, nothing really wrong with that though. A few total bullshit moments/rooms and a kind of bizarre amount of 'jumpscares' and weirdly dark moments that felt incongruous with the style and Yacht Club's previous faire. Also probably my biggest pet peeve, a shitload of massive boss sprites that for some reason you can't go behind at all despite the perspective, the literal entire sprite is a hitbox. You get used to dealing with it but it took a lot of beating it into my head as the rest of the game outside these specific bosses is all about burrowing to the other side and attacking enemies from behind when possible.

tl;dr legitimately extremely good game with a handful of nitpicks. I still think Shovel Knight is a more flawless and timeless game but Mina is an incredibly worthy successor (even if we're going right back to more SK soon... hopefully Mina will get some big fat juicy DLCs though)

That's just the same problem as not going to the Manor and the second quote is the same problem as the little mouse girl NPC. Forcing the player to actually see the scholar walking through the mirror early to get all players on the same page would've just solved this "issue". Or even make the word "mirror" a different color when it shows up in text like some other games. And just to note, I personally did not have a problem with the mirror, but seeing as quite a few people did, it could've been changed to be more apparent for other players.

If theres anything that doesnt need to exist its the souls mechanics because top down platforming sucks dick even if youre good at the combat.
>>
>>740267428
>>740267526
Gotcha. Well can I be a try hard and not buy any thing or level up? I hear a lot of people complaining about difficulty but is it artificial difficulty? Or is it completely your fault?

Yes, you can even sell all your upgrades if you want. There are also a bunch of extra difficulty options if you wan to be a masochist. On a normal playthrough it's really only difficult at the beginning. Once you get used to the burrowing ability and get some upgrades the game becomes much easier. Hitboxes can feel weird sometimes but it's generally pretty fair.
>>
>>740267323
Yes. Yacht Club have good intuition about what makes a game fun. It's not 1-to-1 a Zelda game, but you can feel the love for the mechanics deep in its DNA. Someone like you would probably have a good appreciation for it.

If you like secret hunting, it probably does that better than any Zelda game, too.

No you can't, faggot has a store limit. I actually uninstalled the game right after he said he couldn't accept any more items to sell. Fuck this piece of shit

You start the game with everything required to beat it. Game swings quickly from hard to mostly easy as you pick up new defensive and utility tools. If you're in for a challenge there's even an achievement for beating the game with a negative collection% by not picking things up and selling to a certain amount below what you started with.
>>
>>740261515
Me
>>
>>740267621
Nta, I'd say it's fair difficulty, and a low level run is possible, in fact I think there are achievements for low percent, and not buying things. But that reminds me, is it me, or does the game force you to level up at times? If I ignore leveling up a couple times, the cancel button is grayed out for me.
>>
>>740267621
The game CAN be completed at Lv1 with no trinkets but it would be a tedious affair. The difficulty is quite rough in the beginning but it evens out once you get a few levels in attack power. If you want a more Zelda-esque experience without stat growth you can set Boning Up to Auto under modifiers.
>>
>See dude going inside mirror
>Stand in front of mirror and just do random movements like up and down, left and right and going in circles

>>
>>740268019
Cancel only appears if you can't purchase the bonestone.
>>

>Hitboxes can feel weird sometimes but it's generally pretty fair.
Honestly the only time I felt that way was when I was above a boss. It's not 100% clear where 'safe' is so I just stopped moving above them.
>>
>>740267621
I forgot the main resson I replied
>artificial difficulty
Most challenges are fair, the only thing I'd call artificial difficulty is how poorly the game handles verticality. The most egregious example being massive towering bosses who still do contact damage near the top of their sprite.
>>
>>740268235
I see, yeah I never purchase bonestones. I don't even know if they go up in price too.

1. Do you think all the people playing the game will actually read them?
2. Again, even if they did, the text can be interpreted as flavor text just like the the sister mouse NPC dialogue.
This isn't an issue about reading or context. You can brush this off as "well those players are stupid retards who cant read who cares about them" but it's still a problem that could've been easily solved. This is an issue about being forcibly shown what can be done. I loved this game but is it really hard to admit that this problem could've been easily solved by presenting it in a way that can be guaranteed to be seen by every player early on?

>Do you think all the people playing the game will actually read them?
It's really not my problem if fuckwads want to play an action RPG and not read at all. People like Egoraptor who just button mash until the text is gone deserve all the time they waste aimlessly wandering.

You play games wrong. So get fucked.
>>
>>740268703
Brother I 100% the game already and I already said I personally didn't have trouble with it, so you're obviously a retard who can't read. Fitting for you to post Akko, since you probably share the same single brain cell with her.
>>
>>740269002
I don't care if you beat the game or not, and I have no way of knowing if you're lying. It doesn't matter. Standing up for people who WANT to play the game wrong puts you right in their same camp. Fuck those kinds of people, I have no sympathy for them, and neither should you.
>>
>>740267621
The game is hard for the first 2-3 hours but then you get enough upgrades and trinkets and it becomes very easy imo

>This is an issue about being forcibly shown what can be done.
If that's the complaint that can kinda go for a lot of the game
>The game didn't explicitly show me you can use the lava west of Ossex despite having enemies and forcing you to burrow next to lava to create a trail
>The game didn't explicitly tell me I could swim in the Backwaters despite having bones in the water and having those rope bits that force you to burrow under them anyway.
>Despite having multiple opportunities for hints about the Astral Orrey (with some of them outright telling you about people walking through them) the game didn't directly show me to walk into the mirror for more than a second despite the fact this isn't even outright necessary until late game for me to figure this out
>I wasn't directly shown that I could dig under and move the purple bouncy things to reach other areas despite some of them having bones underneath them.
>I wasn't told I could hook onto enemies and grapple using the fishing rod onto them despite the fact the only (optional) area outright requiring only opening up once you get the fishing rod
There's more but you get the idea. The game often clues you in on what to do without outright telling you what you need to do. Some people get it immediately, some don't. Some experiment, some don't even try.

I was also confused by this because manuals are for retards (apparently me) and didn't know you could dig in water, but with those stats you should really have some way to do 4 block jumps without sidearms
I will defend my and his retardation because I assumed you would get flippers at some point. The game's really not very good at indicating what is and isn't diggable, for example why the fuck can I not dig in fire?
>>

>it's still a problem that could've been easily solved
It's only a problem for stupid retards who can't read. Why do we need to cater to people who fundamentally do not understand how to play video games? Why is a non-issue something that needs to be addressed?

Everything about the mirrors is done right, it is objectively good game design. Why do we NEED to babyify it even more?
