What does the future of PC gaming handhelds look like? Is the future for these devices ARM? Will the Steam Deck 2 or newer Legion/Ally devices become less powerful and compatible due to the architecture, but more efficient? Or do you think they'll keep going with beefy APUs and keep it a niche for people willing to spend $1500 on something like this?I've heard now the new thing is to just grab a cheaper handheld, install rocknix on it and ditch these bigger devices.
Yes, the future is Android. These handheld PCs are about to price themselves out of existence, way too close to laptops now.
>I've heard now the new thing is to just grab a cheaper handheld, install rocknix on it and ditch these bigger devices.Fell for youtube clickbait again award.
>>740242826>Is the future for these devices ARM?Probably.
Being able to stream my PC games to my deck pretty much anywhere in the house without any noticeable input lag has been eye opening for me. I never new game streaming had come so far. Comfymaxxing has never been easier. I don't know what the hardware requirements are for that though. As far as running the games on the handheld itself, I think that's going to be restricted to expensive devices for quite a while.
>>740243497I have a deck and honestly I'd like something more vita sized at this point with better controls (the d-pad just sucks dick and I don't use the touchpads pretty much). Most games I'd play on these devices can probably run on something weaker than a deck, so I'm wondering if I should sell my OLED and grab one of these instead.
The future of pc gaming in general is arm despite how much /v/ is going to fight against it by using their current pc forever (like 5 more years if they're incredibly lucky). So yeah I'd say steam deck 2 is going to be arm based. It's why Valve was pushing for an arm compatibility layer so hard. Not because it would be an extra option but because all future computing will be on arm. Valve knew this is what nvidia was pushing for and they complied.
>>740243676In which way are they considerably a worse option?Games that require decent specs are often best enjoyed at home on a bigger display. Simpler indie games are more suitable for handhelds. Some of these devices are more affordable and more portable.
>>740244385I did exactly this, traded my deck OLED for a Thor max and I'm happy I did. I happen to own a Windows handheld so the deck was filling a very, very tiny niche at that point. Downsizing was the right call for me
>>740247169I would if it was cheaper, but my deck cost me 540€ and one of those is 650€ in my cunt.
>>740244385>get one of those razer kishi-likes for cheap>play on your phone using steam linkit's really peak, ngl
>>740249723I tried this today and I was getting constant cutouts unfortunately
>>740244385The Odin 3 is what you want. It's around Vita size and it has a d-pad clone of it.
Handheld threads would be a lot better without all the chinkshit shilling
>>740250162sort of... it's still the wild west with these devices and it's not all that hard to print your own shit, so there is some competition, and you can bet your ass people are shilling for an against certain devices. I think the competition is good.
>>740243497Fuck, I hate this. But yeah. I've spent the last year modding tablets, phones, consoles and handhelds. I use my computers everyday, but I don't really mess around anymore. Being able to mess around with new hardware requires a lot of money nowadays. I'd rather mess around with stuff I can find at Goodwill or a junkyard.
