Are you more likely to continue playing a game if it has achievements for you to unlock?
>>
Statistically yes. Having rewards is good game design. At a core level you're playing for dopamine. Adding extra shit you can do/get along the way only improves the experience. People who complain about unlocks, progression systems, even shit like dailies are full on retards.
>>
Fuck no. If a game is shit I'm not gonna waste my time playing. Life is too fucking short. As I've gotten older I've just started dropping shit instead of forcing myself to sit through mediocre dog shit. Game is boring and not fun and isn't capturing you? Dropped. Anime/TV show is boring and uninteresting? Dropped. Movie is boring and uninteresting? If I want to see how it ends I'll watch one of those shitty Youtube recaps that explains the movie and what happened or I'll just outright drop it. Life is too short to waste it watching, reading, and playing dog shit slop you don't enjoy.
>>
not really, no
I don't give a shit about cheevos, 90% of the time they are just pointless filler content

What happens if Sisyphus doesn't push the rock?
>>
>>740245239
idk I mostly buy games on gog - no achievements
>>
>>740245239
Not really. I only ever really go for achievements if it's a game I already really like. (Terraria, for instance). I don't usually cheevo hunt, especially since alot of games will have a few achievements that require a long, tedious grind and/or ridiculous rng.
>>
>>740247563
He gets bored, because pushing the rock is the only other thing to do.
>>
>>740247563
Then how will get stickers for his rock
>>
>>740245504
An achievement on your steam profile is not a game reward, you absolute retard. A good designed reward in a game is something you can use IN THE FUCKING GAME, not a sticker on your social media profile
>>
>>740247563
He'll be ostracized by his rock pushing peers.
>>
>>740245239
No.
If it is a fun engaging game that I like then maybe getting the achievements gives you additional objectives to engage with after you've completed the main objectives in a game.
But if the game sucks and I don't like playing it then it doesn't matter how many achievements there are.

Achievements are nice for replay value
That said, they don't influence my purchase decision making whatsoever, they're an absolute chore if they have online play achievements (I'll get gud at the games I want, I'm not gonna be tricked into spending thousands of hours on a game just for chieves against people who live and breathe the fucker), and I believe the emphasis on achievements has not necessarily made gaming objectively worse, but did ruin the fun of ridiculous "cheat codes" by aiding in completely phasing them out of the industry
Sometimes I just like to be retardely powerful, equipped, resilient, stocked, or ridiculous looking

>did ruin the fun of ridiculous "cheat codes" by aiding in completely phasing them out of the industry
The reason they don't make cheat codes any more is because games aren't nearly as hard as they used to be, and if the game is double-bastard hard, then that becomes its selling point.
For everything else the difficulty modes make it irrelevant. Want to one-shot everything on a map without worrying about enemy fire? Easy mode.
Also the accessibility options on some games have gotten to the point where they've just started to look like old-school debug screens.
>>
>>740249203
It's not about "easy mode", it's about the absurdity, silliness, and alternative replay value
Which can be easily conflated with "easy mode"...
Idk, sometimes you just wanna be a mr mackey proportioned god among men, ya know?
>>
>>740245239
I don't care about cheevos at all. That's a normalfag thing.
>>
>>740247563
People call him a useless parasite on the internet.
>>
>>740249203
The reason they got rid of cheats is they would rather sell you 1000000 ingame dollars for 9.99 rather than let you R2, R2, L1, L1, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up
>>
>>740250419
Yeah, that too.
>>740249781
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't miss goofy shit like that as well, but modding games has never been a bigger and easier thing, an if you want to play BG3 where wither's has big naturals, that's at your finger-tips too.

Oh, that's not lost on me -_-
>>740251004
>[modding is] at your finger-tips too
True, but my pc isn't specced for anything modern unless I kneecap everything, MAYBE
I'm a simple anon that enjoyed when gaming was about fun, not tryhard sims, immersion porn, and 1 v 5 billion battle royales
>>
>>740245239
continue? no
im no longer brainwashed into thinking i need 100% of the achieves, especially since some games add MP or speedrun achieves now
infact i look at the list and it will make me ignore(not buy) a game if they have to many shit achieves

games used to have thier own ingame unlocks or things that gave you a sense of achievement even if only for personal reasons(and not to share to strangers online). thats gone now, those unlocks are now paid dlc. its not even worth torrenting games now either
>>
>>740251614
Some games still have that, they just also make it an achievement that pops because the consoles usually insist that the game have x-number of trophies and achievements to unlock.
Its also an easy way to get analytics.
