Why is Goldeneye so praised?
>>
is good
>>
is bad

Do you know how rough it was to play fps before golden eye?

everything about it is good, actually

>Do you know how rough it was to play fps as a subhuman consolenigger before golden eye?
Fixed it for you. Quake released 1 year before tendie 007
>>
It was the multiplayer mainly

quake was shit on consoles because it was not designed for the intrinsic limitations of gamepads

It does a TON of shit that was revolutionary at the time. I mean even the fact that your head bobs around like real life and the start menu is a first person view of looking at your watch.

The limb based damage system is still beyond any FPS game today, it makes the game feel absolutely dynamic and it makes your guns feel like they have more interactivity with the enemy than just purely "Shoot Guy = He Die". It actually emphasizes headshots because a limb shot will just stagger him.

Its level design is insanely bad now by todays standards, we are able to look past the flaws because of just how modern and amazing it was for it's time.

It really was the first shooter I ever felt like it was trying to achieve realism and not just pure arcadey gameplay. Like seeing the blood on the guys as they writhed around from gunfire was actually quite shocking for the time in a way that like Quake and Doom were not.

Why should I care? It's as if I'm talking to a faggot phonefag, no one cares about your kiddy hardware

It seems pretty mysterious now why the game was so praised but it was effectively the birth of modern FPS. Before that basically you had doom and doom clones but the way those games actually played is way less like today's fps than Goldeneye.

Couldn't imagine being a PC only nigger in the 90's. Setting yourself up for a soulless future early.

quake's campaign was also dogshit on pc

yeah basically this Goldeneye was at the time a very tactical game with lots of corner peaking and such. I know it sounds ridiculous today, because of what speed running looks like and people playing with mouse controls and run and gunning.

But yeah, goldeneye felt ultra tactical and modern. I didnt know about Rainbow Six at the time though.

consolebabies' first FPS

>anything which inhibits my god given right to single frame twitch headshot opponents with a railgun while moving at 300mph is gay and bad
doom and quake purists hate videogames

Medal of Honor was the birth of modern FPS. Nothing plays like Goldeneye nowadays.

goldeneye plays more like an immersive sim than a shooter
>>
The objectives and level design made it feel more immersive than most FPS games before it. Great music and sound design, fun split screen multiplayer on a system that excelled at that, too. It's a cool game. Perfect Dark is too.

There are other 90s shooters I'd rather play, but the "only tendies liked it" meme is mostly wrong, in the same way the old Halo "Baby's First FPS" meme was mostly wrong.

Brutally mogged the PlayStation to this very day.

Ignoring the cracks and wrinkles that will inevitably appear after three decades, there a two big problems with Goldeneye, and they were problems when the game was new.
1) The music is fucking mind-numbing. I HATE IT.
2) Somewhat connected with the music, but more due to the N64's smudgy style, the game lacks atmosphere. There's no sense of industrial grit in the Facility, no chill of Russian winter in Surface. Meanwhile the grainy details of Id Software's 90s games (and Build Engine games) evoke atmosphere very effectively.
