As a britbong, this reminds me of when our beloved TV series Doctor Who got a soft reboot with a female lead and new writing staff (with atrocious writing). Countless articles were made to shame anyone that wasn't "open-minded" enough to accept a female lead, only for the new direction of the show to be so bad it practically killed the series.
