I wanted to like Gargoyle's Quest, and I did beat it on original hardware (MiSTer FPGA) without save states or rewind or a guide, but it really is just shovelware tier even for a GB game.

The sidescrolling sections are I guess somewhat passable, but the sprites are so massive and the screen is so cramped and the game moves so incredibly slow and the gameplay is so simple that the skill expression is almost non-existent, the artstyle is just hideous, enemies and items are all just amorphous gray blobs, sounds are grating, the game has so much slowdown and flickering, and projectiles (both yours and enemy) just disappear in mid-air. The RPG gameplay is even worse, and it takes the worst elements of old jarpigs and then makes it even slower and more boring: the text crawls slower than any game I've played, the villagers have absolutely nothing interesting to say, the world is totally bland, and the it has constant Zelda 2 tier shitty random encounters with the same handful of layouts.

It's like Zelda 2, but somehow worse in every possible way.

Also that's not Mega Man X, that's Mega Man X3, which is a downgrade compared to X2 which was already a downgrade from Mega Man X, which is already an overrated (but still good) game in general.
