But why was the rebar glowing red hot?
>>740254474To deal extra incendiary damage.
>>740254474i thought that was just a magic red glowing thing, not red hot rebar
>>740254624>That part you pin a combine to a billboard
>>740254474Because it's not enough to merely impale a Combinigger, you want to sear his insides so he can suffer more.
>>740254474How? ElectricityWhy? Because being shot is one thing, being shot by a burning object that splashes molten slag on you and melts your armor, potentially grafting it to your skin so if you survive it rips off a chunk of it when removed is another.
>>740254474Induction heating from some kind of heater and the battery underneath the real question is what kind of magic space slav technology created a battery that small that could heat up a steel rod to red hot more than one time without dying
>>740255660ayliums
>>740255072You know why metal things are glowing red hot in a forge or on the anvil? It makes them softer and more pliable, so you can mold or hammer them into shape. Thus, making the bolt red-hot means it's more likely to bend & deflect off their armor instead of penetrating. Splattering someone with molten metal would really suck for them, true, but that's not what the crossbow does in HL2
I try not to think about this weapon too much because it's fucking retarded and would never work
>>740255747maybe it cools down enough while traveling through the air to penetrate again and defeats the whole purpose besides looking coolnew HL lore unlocked
>>740254474Because it's cooler than just having a regular rebar.
>>740254624I always thought it was a Xen crystal thingy
>>740254474Superheated by the battery pack toward the front... You see the lightning bolt?
>>740254474because it looked kewl
>>740255846About that... https://youtu.be/0nLT_bEaLlY?si=j3QbQQtA_5vVJgTT
>>740255747If it's coated with something like Zinc that melts at quite low temperatures, wouldn't the zinc glow before the steel loses any toughness?
>>740255747The middle would still be a solid mass unless you pass an incredibly large amount of electricity through it to melt it completely.
>>740254474it represents my penis when I see antlions
>>740256328Yeah if its galvanized rebar that would work, so the only crazy thing would be how its heated i guess
>>740255846It's not that it would never work. It's just pointless to put in the effort to heat up a projectile like that unless you just want it to cause more excruciating pain.
>>740256225>needs two men to gingerly load the thing>can barely penetrate 3 inches at a range of 8 feetThis retarded clickbait for normies certainly showed me!
>>740256794That's sans HEV suit and alien hypertech, you stooge
>>740256676The crossbow in HL2 can impale a man and nail him to a wall from half a mile away.
>>740255747It's still a mag-accelerated two-foot length of rebar, no one is just gonna walk that off.
>>740256865Rebels are supposed to use this thing. Actual humans, you know, the malnourished, beaten, oppressed dudes, average (cotton eye) Joes. And it's clearly niggerrigged together out of Earth materials and human tech, not combine bullshit, not even the battery.
>>740256550Just need a scifi chemical that reacts with zinc to cause extreme heat. Then you just apply it to the bolt by pushing it through that scifi-box above the handle. Something like that. Or just fill the box with good old white phosphorus
>>740257145You think rebels with the help of Kleiner and Kleiner adjacent scientists don't have ANY access to Xen technology?Did you even play the games or just watch a let's play?
>>740254474because it was in you're are ass
>>740257005Neither would Gordon. The way those bolts behave the force would probably take his arm off and destroy the weapon on the first shot. It's not like his suit makes him invincible even a short drop breaks his legs.
>>740254474because it looks cool, duhFuckin Zoomers don't understand us 90s kids.
>>740257343What force?
>>740254474Or perhaps he's wondering why would somebody scald a man, after pinning him to a wall.
>>740257973The force of blasting a length of rebar so hard is travels perfectly straight with no dropoff for miles and will take any grown man in the way with it with no deviation in trajectory until it impales itself and anything it's carrying to the first solid object it hits. It's cool and everything, but also fucking bananas.

>>740258748It's a powerful gun.
>>740260172>>740260172>>740260172>>740260172
>>740260172for you
>>740259215Its a crossbow
>>740255848Assuming it's steel it'll need more than just a split second of high-speed air travel to go from glowing red hot to ambient.>>740255072It would have to be inductive heating I think.
>>740257242>Actually it makes sense because [fanfiction I invented in my head]
