what causes this?
we're not in the 90s anymore, developers are able to keep updating their games long after release. sometimes those changes are for the better, sometimes they're for the worse. it's completely reasonable for someone to have enjoyed a game for thousands of hours to eventually turn on it after the developers pushed out an awful update that ruined the game

My favorite is when it's a negative review. Trashing it. And it shows hours played at time of review(0.2 hours) and then time played (2500 hours)
SURPRISEAfter 13 years we are happy to update game1 with new features to the character creator.
>>740259712Who would you trust saying a game is garbage, someone with 50k hours in a game, or someone with less than 1?
>>740259712The developer posted something political on twitter
>>740259712His game knowledge is far superior to yours.
>>740260326lol
>>740260725to be fair, if a game provides thousands of hours of enjoyment and only becomes shit after you've exhausted absolutely every ounce of fun after 10k+ hours, is it really a bad game?
>>740259712CS and Dota are games that trick you into thinking you'll eventually have fun with them once you make it to Gold or Platinum. It never happens, and you're left with a feeling of emptiness after spending years playing actual slop.
>>740259712Some games have good elements making you stay, but the bad ones reenforce your hate for the dev team that sullied what may be a good game with a few tweaks. Take Prey, I've wasted 120 hours on this janky piece of rubbish. It's the type of game where you're bored out of your mind in normal, and want to hang yourself in nightmare mode because you fight giga bullet sponge enemies with erratic movements who can kill you in two hits. You need to force yourself through this jank ( bad stealth, bad melee, bad physic ) to focus on the only neuromods to do any damage ( psyc/shotgun ). Apparently the 'tards at arkane never envisioned in their feeble mind the concept of a hard mode where you kill fast and get killed fast, and where enemies are visually distinct, projecting their intent with visual clarity and are fun to fight. Maybe they need to take notes from Dishonored. I can't quite remember who made dishonored but they had a good system in place.
>>740259712>game does an updateThe vast majority of negative reviews with playtimes above triple digits will generally mention exactly how the devs ruined their game, often going into multiparagraph rants about each fuckup.
>>740259712>>740261668>>740262474One thing you guys should also consider is that just because someone plays the game a fuckload, enjoying it as well, doesnt mean they would recommend it to people. Some games just aren't something that a person looking at reviews should consider. They are too autistic, have too niche of an appeal, or too difficult a learning curve to realistically recommend them to normies on steam. This is much rarer than shit like >>740262567but its worth considering.
>>740259712true knowledge
>>740262567pic related is the OP for me
why are you retarded OP?
>>740261831this is why fighting games are superior. after years of suffering, I did eventually start having fun.
