How are you guys enjoying the season 2?
I just joined with this season, the game is oddly addictive despite me not knowing what the fuck is going on. I think I played 5 rounds last night and only extracted once.
>>
I will use the first post to beam negative energy in your general direction for no reason.

Man, it feels so weird to be weak again. Almost nostalgic. Running grey kits on Night Marsh and getting melted by basic bots... we're back.

Progression feels so much faster now, and the cradle system is great. Sentinel is rad and the new weapons shred.

I really really really love Night Marsh in general, and the Sponsored Survival playlist in particular. I's such a nice come-down / chill-out option. All the random I've match-made with were also loving it. It's a great low-stakes way to get acclimated for newbs, or decompress from pvp ptsd. Make it permanent!

They gotta fix the bug where it forgets your crew-fill / solo settings. Also wish your vault tab selection was remembered as well, after inspecting weapons or tabbing to the faction market.

Overall absolutely loving this season, can't wait to see what else is in store

I just started it on the first day of the free trial. I haven't played the night areas. Seems like I have a long way to go. What a great game it is. But getting over dying unfairly to other players is a big hurdle that could turn others away.

It's story is 10/10. Visuals, sound and gameplay are probably that too.

Fuck it's good.
>>
Is all the loot in this game just fucking trash? It really feels like it.

Bro what story
>>
I really like the new runner.
He feels like he fits into the game just as well as the base 6 do and has his own unique fun little niche to occupy.

I like this design style of the runners abilities and stats not being MASSIVELY impactful and instead being long cooldown and supplementary, lets bungie really go ham with a bunch of difference styles over time

If anything Destroyer still feels like he does too much and is the odd one out of the 7

Any vidya with existentilism and nihilism like Marathon?

I am referring to games where players are neither protagonists nor grand heroes, and where they never assume the role of the chosen one.

Specifically, I'm talking about games where a player's influence is negligible, extending no further than interactions with other players.

In such scenarios, you are an imperceptibly small component within a vast system of immensely powerful entities. These entities manipulate events and consistently diminish your importance, treating you merely as a tool.

The game itself refuses to acknowledge player actions beyond offering meager rewards, designed solely to motivate progression through a system of incentives and deterrents.

Nevertheless, we are compelled to play the hand we are dealt, striving to find purpose even in the absence of a meaningful cause.

This is pretty much the total opposite of what Titanfall 1 tried, which was another concept I actually liked. Titanfall 1 just slapped a bunch of intro/outro cutscenes and talking NPCs into a regular multiplayer match, trying to make it seem like Attrition had some kind of ongoing story where you mattered.

Marathon enhances immersion by establishing a setting characterized by fierce battles between rogue mercenaries engaged in largely insignificant tasks for modest compensation. It is particularly noteworthy that two opposing teams might both be employed by Space Nestlé, yet still engage in combat. Even the contractors themselves appear indifferent to the potential failure of an assignment, viewing death as merely a minor inconvenience and success as some small step forward of their much grander plans.

The only similar game I can think of is Mechwarrior Mercenaries, but it has nowhere near the same narrative focus as the world is a much grander setting centered on more than mercs, so it doesn't carry the same narrative impact
>>
>>740263658
I haven't played much but Vandal/Glitch seems good. I still don't know what L1+R1 do for her. But I died to a shot before changing to her. The arm cannon is a good ability against everything but the bugs.

I played sentinel before but that or recon is probably best. To stay away from other players and bots.

You start out at the mercy of the world. That doesn't last long or didn't at the start of the free trial with the free gear being a good assault rifle.
>>
[Script #11 DO NOT COPY THIS PART]

It's great.
Visuals, gameplay, audio.
Buy most of all story.

There is no reason not to like it.
Other players make you be careful. Sucks to die by them but it's not a big problem when you get over it. If you had friends you'd clean up. Playing solo is great too. The world is interesting. I can't overstate how good it looks. Especially with your tv set right.

It sucks they went with high res instead of high graphics but the end result is still great. Could have easily been better, like better lighting. And then incredible. But good enough.

Pay attention to the tutorial though. I spent about 10 mins trying to get inside somewhere before discovering a vent to crack open.

And there is no info on spending silk. I figured it out but by then had already wasted lots of unspent silk.

It fucking rules. It's one of the best games ever. I hope it continues forever. I'll probably spend hundreds on it for skins. And to support it. The free week was a good initiation. I probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

It still shows as trial after buying the deluxe edition so that was probably just an upgrade. Some skins. Not really worth it. Should have just bought the game and currency.

It might be free in the future. Due to how well it plays and how likely people are to keep playing.

You should get in before other players get in. So it's a lot easier. Encountering another runner is pretty much death. You can pay to win but die very quickly.

Worth playing for the story and design. It's still a game of exploring. The maps are huge. You are expected to look around. That is how you get loot.

It has "emergent gameplay". It's different every time. It's well thought out. You don't know what to expect. There is a lot, like starting area that isn't explained. You just have to be familiar with it.
>>
>>740263723
Nah. But every negative spam is the same degenerate shit.
Formatting text well so it's easier read is a good thing. And if not for people like you I wouldn't know about that site and would have entirely forgot about it.

This is a great game. Find something actually shit to hate on. Or stop getting your jollies from saying things are shit and laughing. /pol/ is shit. Don't fill yourself with bad things.

As games go this is as good as it gets. In every regard. It doesn't have any invalidators either.

Progression feels fucking wack now, I played for like four hours yesterday, didn't get a single kill, extracted maybe four or five times, yet somehow already hit level 20 when I only made it to just under 50 in 80 hours of season 1 play.
Night marsh also seems like just a strictly superior version of regular marsh, though the one time I was in the upper floor of complex it seemed really lame.
>>
>>740264148
I wrote that. Aside from your addition.
It's true. I came on v just to gush about it. Finally after a long while a game meant for me. Pragmata is probably great too. So is Metal Eden and Returnal. I also like Sunless Sea and the Division. I've said a lot of praise for them against the likes of you who say they are bad not just without playing them, but for bullshit reasons touted by the media or your favourite streamers ie child molesters getting in between people and games, trying to give people hangups and sneery attitudes of watching and seeing others try and fail as if superior.

Kane & Lynch was also top ten stuff. Bullshit it was bad can't change that but can condemn devs.

What do you want. Try saying that instead. Might find out it is a lot harder than laughing at things pointing out flaws etc.

Don't make your side opposite to something good.
Have a fresh perspective.

Marathon themes apply to reality outside the game. Organisations to ensure humanity's survival. Considering the severity of death and pain we should already be at the stage depicted. Maybe. Maybe not. But it's a pleasant change to see good design as charge and maybe the big bad. Glitch asks where's death. Not being able to die might be bad, not just for torturous reasons and inability to adapt.

Anyway. Should probably focus more on what people do when they don't have to do anything to survive. Like kids. Or not.

Synthetic stuff is a good time. Theme. Clean, recycled maybe. Considerations for everything. Beats pressure to confirm stupidity. Conformity to rap and all that and fictional factory/factionary nonsense where something bad pretends it's better.

Be nice if things were nice. When not distance from nice and recreation of it is understandable. Not compedative. Just off a good base.
>>
They really need to change something with the beginner perimeter. It's just fucking boring and barren. At least up the player count or something, man. Shit is not fun as it is, and I'm sure these first few hours of the game are where they're losing people.

Vandal/Glitch's L1+R1 (Assuming thats her Prime/Ultimate you're referring to) maxes out your agility and heat capacity for its duration, as well as resets your heat capacity bar when you activate it. Basically, its a giga movement speed boost and stamina boost for its duration (Also improves weapon handling I think which is recoil, reload speed etc.)

Doing the marsh complex on free kits and limited timer is actually more fun than queueing in to normal night marsh and getting it done, and yet people insist that the sponsor marsh is the issue with fast gear.

I'm trying it out for the free week and I like it. I've been playing Thief solely and been having a ton of fun both ratting it up and ambushing runners.

I played some more rounds today and finally got into doing more of the story contracts. I think the nuCaloric AI is the Bentusi voice from Homeworld, which is very cool. Also started running assassin (hi Adam Jensan), since the cloak feels like a crutch i need right now. It's feeling better and I still want to keep playing after taking a break for a couple hours.

Still, today has reinforced some thoughts:
-the onboarding is truly terrible. Throwing you into live matches without any kind of training room to learn the shells or way to learn the maps is so dumb.
-base inventory too low. it should be one row more, 4 spaces.
-or, it should be easier to find a basic backpack in mission.
- it's a shame there's no single player storyline. the factions so far are cool, the UESC enemies are cool, i love all the tron block ships and sounds. the sound design is really good.

I would like to know your guys idea on how you would fix Marathon because clearly this game is not attracting a sustainable enough audience for the amount it cost.

Like it seems they genuinely have to pull a FF14 1.0 ,a no man's sky, or a cyberpunk and redevelop it into something people actually want to play and that itself is a massive financial risk of throwing more money into a hole for the chance to pull yourself out of the ditch you dug yourself into

Do a hard pivot to PvE mission-based co-op shooter, similar to Warframe or Helldivers. They can keep PvP as a side mode, but at the end of the day extraction shooters are niche so it shouldn't be the focus.

Actually use the fucking roster of enemies from the Marathon series instead of random ass lego robots and create a real narrative the players can engage with that isn't reading codex logs.

FPS Warframe doesn't exist, so this would fulfill an empty spot in the market.

Holy fucking kek. What is Bungie thinking right now?
>>
>>740294356
The elephant in the room is the game's visual presentation. Nobody wants to look at dogshit color vomit Ikea acid trip slop on their screens. Nobody wants to have to decipher what items actually are because the graphics of what they appear as in the UI are indecipherable colormashed slop. Nobody wants to play as characters that literally look like homosexual robots carrying around Nerf guns.
Shills praise this shit for having some avant garde cutting edge graphical style. But the reality is, most games use a familiar sci-fi/modern military aesthetic for a reason.

>I would like to know your guys idea on how you would fix Marathon because clearly this game is not attracting a sustainable enough audience for the amount it cost.
Well, for starters: I wouldn't make a Doom clone (only Macintosh exclusive for it's era/1990s) into an EXTRACTION SHOOTER. So write that down...

Second, if you were going to make a sequel to Marathon 3: Infinity, I'd try to fix the complete stopping point of that or make Durandal time-travelling shenanigans the point of "Marathon 4: Durandal Harder" or whatever you wanted to call it.

Then make Halo's sandbox gameplay (that Marathon was the precursor for) be nailed to get the disgruntled Halo fans.

There, I have saved Marathon. A single-player campaign + multiplayer PvP for those that want a continuation of Halo.

I've tried the f2try and i dont understand how you are even supposed to know if its an actual enemy or just a robot most of the time?
Also i feel like my character is not being able to withstand anything at all. Does better gear give you much more survivability later on? like x4 or something?
I just went in with freekits

>>
>>740299232
>Does better gear give you much more survivability later on? like x4 or something?
Yes, your free skit has a one slot grey shield while you can loot better shields that give you more slots drastically increasing your survivability.
>>
>>740299775
If I the doctor kept constantly yelling into my face that I have a disease that kills me in 2 weeks, just to be doing fine 3 months later, then yeah, that's a chud doctor.
Especially since said doctor would still be yelling that.
>>
>>740299232
>i dont understand how you are even supposed to know if its an actual enemy or just a robot most of the time?
By their animations. A running player and patrolling UESC have very different animations. A Rook can easily blend with other robots but that's kind of his deal.
But yes, in a teamfight with high adrenaline you will mess up and mistake enemies and get third partied, it's part of the game.
>Also i feel like my character is not being able to withstand anything at all. Does better gear give you much more survivability later on? like x4 or something?
Not that much but shields so matter a lot in PvP. Each shield bar adds 20 HP and your health is 120 HP, so having one tier higher shields than your enemy can compensate for missing a shot, but it won't make you that much tankier.
UESC in particular use the same weapons players do, which is why they drop them sometimes. But they fire less accurately and less often. If you stand still or let yourself get surrounded, the shittiest fodder robots will melt through your max shields and health very quickly. That's why you must always dodge, get cover, or rush and stab them.
>I just went in with freekits
You shouldn't, outside of dedicated sponsor maps. Even if you're out of gear, a green shield, backpack and Punch pistol are basically free and a lot better than free kits, especially after they nerfed the depleted patch kits, and will matchmake you with better players.
You have to get used to the mindset of using what gear you have, and you'll find yourself playing better, extracting more often, having better gear, and being less frustrated overall.
>>
>>740299232
The best shields only give like a 60% health increase over greys, but more important than just raw health is that those get your TTK to a point where you can actually react to getting shot and get to cover before dying.
>>
>>740294356

>It's done. The stink of corporate decision making and maximising shareholder value extends to its core.
The only shareholder maximizing decision here was making a play on extraction shooters being the next big thing.
The game has shockingly terrible monetization systems to get engaged players to spend more.
If it was really maximized for shareholder value there would have been no/limited free cosmetics plus some whalebait system like CS:GO knife skins. Players want to buy shit rn more out of fear for the game’s longevity rather than because it’s valuable.

>ive been changing runners often and have grapplng hooked to my teammate when i thought i was still triage
I guess that comes with practice. It took me a while to remember to use grenades in combat.
>wait wut? you can't be serious?
About what? It's a Bungie game, it has aim assist. This won't change.
>with only the stupid flashlight and everything being a robot i end up shooting my teammate thinking they are an npc
I've only had trouble telling apart my teammates from enemies in the heat of combat. UESC are too blocky for me to mistake them.
>ilvl = item level, gear has a stat value so matching people in the same gear range instead of level range, in a free kit i should be matched with people wearing white/green/blue gear not purple and gold
This kind of removes the point of extraction shooters. This should be a thing for ranked, but not for the main game. But to do miss the freekit mode from season 1. Free kits should be delegated to their own tardbox, I don't want to grab my best gear and get matched with a grayshield.

I liked the aesthetic and art direction of GUI, screens and art in general of this game. But when I'm actually in game it looks like a kids playground of lego or something, for me it's awful. If this game was free to play maybe I would play it from time to time but I'm not buying this. I respect your opinions tho hope you keep enjoying it :)
