VTMB2 is adding guns next week. (They added melee weapons in April.) This marks the end of the post-release roadmap. You miiiiight get a surprise patch with some last minute fixes for the 1 year anniversary, but no more DLC and no more gameplay revamps. Now it's up to modders, who have made a surprising amount of progress, but who have been having to deal with TCR breaking everything every two months.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFiHMeQmiVgIt's just a shame that the chances of an official mod toolkit are basically nil due to red tape.
>>740263715When are they adding content for your own character that you create but only play for about five minutes while you jump POV to other random retards instead? Oh wait they're not doing that. Instead they're adding even more random retard POVs and you barely get to play your own fucking character. In an "RPG". Fuck off!
>>740263926I don't think the game really thinks of itself as an RPG.
>>740263715damn they're actually updating this game?did they sell a preorder dlc pack or something?
Kinky.
>>740263715I forgot this game even existed
>>740266260>Hey, want to create an RPG>No we want to create a waling simulator but okay we'll take your money and agree to create an RPG called Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2>WAAAHHHH WE TOLD YOU WE DIDN'T WANT TO CREATE AN RPG WE TOLD YOU WE WANTED A WALKING SIMULATOR AND WHY DID YOU MAKE US USE THE TITLE VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE BLOODLINES 2 THAT'S NOT THE TITLE WE WANTED WHEN WE ACCEPTED THE JOB SO IT'S YOUR FAULT AND IT'S THE PLAYER'S FAULT WE TOOK A JOB WE NEVER WANTED TO DO WAAAAAHHHHHThe Chinese Room is retarded beyond belief
>>740266629They hastily promised two story DLCs. First story DLC was mediocre. Second story DLC seems a bit more promising. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z0V_vJde9QIt seems like the DLCs were partially used to get funding for the combat reworks. First they reworked melee combat. Then they reworked gunplay. This does address two of the biggest complaints about the game, but the third complaint -- that the game is a weak RPG, is far more difficult to fix.
>>740267083No, that's not what VTMB2 was pitched as at all. They basically told Paradox that due to a lack of money, staff, time, etc. it wasn't possible to make an RPG like Bloodlines. What they were going to make instead was a linear stealth/action game. Very Dishonored+BioShock. When the original writer/director left in 2023, he was replaced by a guy who worked on Fable and the guy who wrote Amnesia Rebirth. They looked at the game and decided that it was too combat focused, so they created Detective Fabien to act as a second protagonist playable in non-combat flashbacks. The idea being that players who were irate at the amount of combat would enjoy just walking around and talking to people.
>>740263715fucking hate how this looks this is not bloodlines
>>740263715this game already released what the fuck?
>>740267721>They basically told Paradox that due to a lack of money, staff, time, etc. it wasn't possible to make an RPG like Bloodlines. What they were going to make instead was a linear stealth/action game. Very Dishonored+BioShock.THEN DON'T TAKE THE FUCKING JOB FAGGOT
Lipstick on a pig.
>>740263715Oh great the shill is back, it flopped stop trying to act like anything is going to save it you pathetic nigger.
>>740267721I would genuinely like a VTMB game dedicated almost entirely to character interactions and some exploration flavored by Character skills and Disciplines. I barely cared for Bloodlines combat at all it's appeal was more about the characters and the setting. Combat was just to enable having the social decision to tell someone they could fuck off and then kill them. But Honestly that could just be a skill check and cutscene showing my character killing people as opposed to a subpar action game where I do that. VTMB2s biggest sin is that it's protags fucking suck. They're neither the blank slates who provide the freedom to make your own decisions and imagine your characters personality, nor are they an interesting enough base character to make their self reflections and relationships narratively interesting.
>>740267721>No, that's not what VTMB2 was pitched as at all. They basically told Paradox that due to a lack of money, staff, time, etc. it wasn't possible to make an RPG like Bloodlines. What they were going to make instead was a linear stealth/action game. Very Dishonored+BioShock.VTMB2 was started by scammers who roped some of the original Troika guys in to give themselves legitimacy, pitched the game to Paradox, had the old guys do some PR tours, then fired them and ran off with the money. Paradox then dumped the project on the new devs who were totally disinterested in making anything like the first game which resulted in the undercooked mess we have today.
>>740268456Sumo Digital was subtly threatening them by telling them they needed a AAA project, and logically it would have to be an existing IP.Paradox was looking for someone to reboot the game, and most of the other devs had already turned them down because the pay was so bad.
>>740269440>Paradox then dumped the project on the new devs who were totally disinterested in making anything like the first game which resulted in the undercooked mess we have today. It wasn't a lack of interest. They just straight up didn't have enough money or time. Paradox told them that the project had to be rebooted in 2 years. That was the initial timeline. TCR told them that they couldn't make an RPG from scratch (paradox hated everything Hardsuit had made and wanted it scrapped) in 2 years, so proposed more of an action game with the hope that if it sold well they could pitch Bloodlines 3 as more of an RPG. Things went sideways during development it took 5 years instead of 2 years, and a lot of that was done by a disorganized team with semi-frequent layoffs making the team smaller and smaller.
>>740266652
>>740269281>I would genuinely like a VTMB game dedicated almost entirely to character interactions and some exploration flavored by Character skills and Disciplines. That's basically what Swansong is, but hampered by Nacon being retards and BigBadWolf (whom Nacon are planning to shut down) being incompetent.
>>740269630The fact that they went with a premade protagonist who never shuts up paired with scuffed Johnny Silverhand makes me not believe that. It seems like a very intentional choice to ape Cyberpunk.
>>740263715Great. Did they time travel to remove the writer who actively said she was trying to fight against White males being main characters?
>>740270101I wish for a complete blacklist on feminist women and left winged faggots in the industry
>>740270001The Chinese Room were always hugely into games with voices in your head and stuff like that.https://youtu.be/2jEbq3fE94Qhttps://youtu.be/hlGdbziSwEYhttps://youtu.be/_c45mzfRF_U?&t=70It's nothing new at all. Interestingly, the original version of VTMB2 at TCR had a somewhat different story about Elif and Karo (early name for Fabien) working together and Karo being the mastermind who had conspired for you to diablerie him.
>>740270101I think you're confusing it with the cancelled version.
JUST FUCKING REMAKE THE FIRST VTMB GAME!Shit ain't that hard, you got an easy template to follow plus all the mods that people use.If you want to be ballsy just add or flesh out more content that was originally supposed to be in the game. It's free money right there for the taking.
I know the combat in the original was pretty bad but christ the op/shills webm looks terribleAlso having to patch using weapons into the game post release is pathetic. The chinese room shouldn't be allowed to touch anyone elses IPs ever again
>>740271293>I know the combat in the original was pretty bad but christ the op/shills webm looks terribleWhat looks bad about it to you? Looks fine to me.
>>740263715combat gameplay looks like shit
>>740271293>Also having to patch using weapons into the game post release is pathetic. It was originally envisioned as a first person brawler game. Its codename is literally "Wrestler". Reworking the entire combat system to use weapons was a huge concession. Probably one they should have made before release, not 8 months after release, though.
>>740271579Doesn't look that different to Dead Island 2 or Dying Light.
>>740271293combat is the weakest aspect of the game.the only "combat" i actually enjoyed was running away from the werewolf at the park observatory.
>>740271575>hold m1>enemies act like they're getting pushed when they're being sliced with a sword>press F to epic finisher>just soaks every bulletIts so generic and soulless its laughable. And don't try the "well they're a vampire" excuse.
>>740271293>hire walking sim studio>they make a walking sim>WOOOOW HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOWbravo paradox
>>740271731>"Well it's a piece of shit but actually it was always envisioned as a piece of shit. Infact, it's codename is literally 'piece of shit'"
>>740271883>>hold m1To what?>enemies act like they're getting pushed when they're being sliced with a swordYea, it's called hit impact.>press F to epic finisherYea, you have a choice between feeding on enemies or killing them instantly. Feeding on enemies or using potions is the only way to regenerate your blood pips for abilities.>just soaks every bulletLikely playing on Easy. And using potions.>And don't try the "well they're a vampire" excuse. The fixation on making the protagonist an Elder did cause a number of knock-on effects.
>>740271965Where does the walking sim thing come from? Bloodlines 2 is an action game that had walking sim detective sections bolted on late in development when they recast Fabien. It is overwhelmingly combat oriented. That's why the combat not being fun was a huge, huge, huge problem.
>>740272079I think you're intentionally playing dumb and missing the point, but i also notice you didnt comment on the generic and soulless part.Seeing as you're the games number one defender, go on, sell it to me. I'll listen, im interested in what you see in it that nobody else seems to
>>740271579That's why they're adding guns next week, so people who don't like clobbering enemies with a baseball bat can just shoot them with double revolvers instead.
>>740263715>guns and melee weapons are being added post releaseWhat the fuck did the game have on release then, harsh language? Sounds like a shitshow, I think I'll just go ahead and stay away, thank you.
>>740272507>What the fuck did the game have on release thenPunching and kicking, and vampire abilities. It was a first person brawler game. Terrible idea, IMO, but one that they didn't begin shifting away from until very late in development.
>>740271814agreed
>>740271201a VTMB1 remake would require the permission and licensing agreement by Microsoft AND Paradox.both companies aren't that strapped for cash.
>>740269630>TCR told them that they couldn't make an RPG from scratch (paradox hated everything Hardsuit had made and wanted it scrapped) in 2 years, so proposed more of an action game with the hope that if it sold well they could pitch Bloodlines 3 as more of an RPG.THEN DON'T TAKE THE FUCKING JOB FAGGOT!
I never thought I would be reading about a game's weapons needing to be patched in after releaseFuck 2026 LOL
>that soulless UIick
>there are people in this very thread who don't realize this trash was doomed before it ever startedSurely Teyon's Hunter game won't be the same festering fucking garbage WoD has been stewing in for 20+ years too, right?
I played the first hour of the game when it came out and you'd have to pay me to go back.
Did they take out the detective parts???? I hated those so much i stopped playing
I'm guessing it did alright I think they would be smart to do another and take their time there's always room for a vampire immersive sim imo
>>740271201A lot of people would love to work on a VTMB1 remaster or even a remake, but the rights are complicated. I think it will happen sooner than later, though.
>>740275180At least Teyon is TRYING to make theirs an RPG. TCR is so unbelievably retarded and shit. It'll be funny if a no-name dev comes in and steals their lunch.
>>740274751I must agree, I really hate these modern UI trends.
>>740275260I wonder what behind the scenes stuff led to the main game being so utterly sexless. The DLC is the first time anything even slightly erotic has made its way in.
>>740276652You can fast travel as Fabien now, but no. You can't really take them out because the restructured story is built entirely around them. Yes, I think they should have rethought them.
>>740277443Lesbian selfcest is hecking problematic male gaze behavior. What is going on at Paradox?
>>740277443>The DLC is the first time anything even slightly erotic has made its way in.And conveniently you're not even playing as your own fucking character.
>VTMB2oh yeah that happened.lol
>>740278679Did it though? Did it happen?
I pirated this game and still felt ripped off. I liked some concepts of it, some of the characters were interesting and parts of the story were kind of neat. But overall it was a major slog.
I think VTMB2 got trapped between eras. It began development during the tail end of peak woke. The final game isn't hugely woke or anything, but it feels extremely tame. Then you have this DLC trailer where Ysabella has just hilarious levels of hip sway when she walks, which would have been considered absolutely unacceptable a few years ago.https://youtu.be/0z0V_vJde9Q?si=t1oaP9bh8lUEIiJd
>>740279408>I pirated this gameWhich version did you play, though? Because it has undergone a somewhat substantial revamp that ends next week.
>>740269502Again, if these people truly wanted to be "independent" then they should have remembered that before taking other people's money.
>>740279536The difference is VTMB2 is so sexless because someone could conceivably self-insert as an eww heterosexual male character whereas the DLC you're forced to play as a sassy woman of color.
Wait, this game only JUST got guns? What the fuck
>>740279786The canon protagonist of VTMB2 is a vampire woman who spends almost the entire game with another vampire woman clearly wanting to fuck her and demurely stuttering every time you look at her. They manage to make this weirdly unsensual.
>>740279871But you can change the canon. You can't with the DLCs. It's insane how the character you create is the one that gets no content.
>>740263715>guns>on the fucking post-release roadmapGrim.
>>740279997The whole Nomad/Phyre situation is frustrating, I agree. I also think the gender neutral bullshit was lame. She was originally explicitly a woman, and referred to as such in dialogue. The final game is a "them"-fest. Also, the art book refuses to say "female" and loves terms of like "female-presenting" which is peak tranny-speak.Also, originally the Brujah concept art had tranny flag pins on the jacket. Someone must have told them to cut that shit out because the final game doesn't have it.
>>740280185If they had to keep the Fabian stuff at least let Nomad do it with Fabian "guiding" or whatever. Shifting POV so you play as someone else all the time is unbelievable.
>>740269281VTMB disco elysium like
>>740271201it pisses me off to no end that we get countless shitty remakes of games that don't fucking need it whatsoever, meanwhile games like VTMB that would actually benefit from remakes are left to rot. i get with bloodlines it's more so due to how much of a nightmare the licensing would be, but still. then again, it's also likely that even if it did get a remake, it would be shitty.
>>740280246Playable Fabien was added quite late in development. I personally feel this was maybe a mistake. Or at least his sections should only have been the 20s flashbacks. And have the modern day investigations as Phyre. It's messy.Another issue I have is that Fabien, as a character, is way too politically correct for a 1920s detective. I dislike that he calls Patience "them". It's a little thing but it bugs me. Vampires have a huge problem adjusting to change. He should be calling Patience "her". It's so dumb and cringe that he uses modern, politically correct language.
>>740279853It's always had guns, but it used to be you couldn't hold them in your hand unless you were possessing someone. Only being able to fire guns while possessing someone OR by having them floating with telekinesis upsets people, I guess.
>>740280280There was one of those. Heartless Symphony or whatever it was called. I did hear it was actually still in development. But no real news for a while.
>>740279853>>740280581It's a bit more than that. Really late in dev, they added the ability to hold guns using TK to mag dump them then throw them. This was very clumsy and you had no real control. You couldn't play the game as a gunslinger. The new approach is similar to how melee weapons work. So you can only hold one melee weapon and one gun type. And it looks like you press tab to switch between melee/guns. If you find a pistol, and you already have a pistol, you can hold two pistols. I assume there's no reloading and you just fire until you have no ammo. I don't know how ammo supply is handled. The first DLC had ammo boxes and lootable enemies for Benny's pistol. We'll find out next Wed I guess.
>>740271201>Shit ain't that hardIt is for a product of its time.
>>740277443>>740277750My suspicion was always that The Chinese Room were never the problem when it came to VTMB2 being sleazy. I think it was Paradox that wanted something cleaner, safer, more brand-friendly. With the game financially failing, they don't give a shit anymore and are allowing the DLC to be edgier.
>>740263715You're telling me they didn't even have weapons on release?
>>740280948Except again, the DLC forces you to play literal whos instead of your own character.
>>740281074Its codename was Wrestler. It was primarily a game where you punched things.
>>740263715This game is not fucking complete yet?
>>740281689Final major update next week. I wonder if we'll see any kind of reappraisal videos looking at what was and wasn't fixed.
>>740269281You might enjoy Choice of Games' Vampire the Masquerade CYOA games. At least Night Road.
Just a shame the game sold poorly. If it had sold well they would have pumped way more into salvaging it.
