What Hypnospace Outlaw shows is that the novelty of exploring an operating system and its content doesn't hold up for long without a decent narrative behind it. That game is genuinely good because it starts out as a total shitpost, but as you play on, you begin to see a deeply human side to those characters and the story. By the time you've grown tired of exploring the 90s Internet, you've now got characters who've won you over, and they carry the third act of the game all on their own...Just watching the webm clips from this new game, the first thing I felt was that it's being made by people with no life experience, copying the superficial trends that impress them.But I could be wrong, who knows?
