Today's my birthday /v/, or at least it was exactly a week ago, I completely forgot to make a thread. May we have a SMT Thread to celebrate?>What's your favorite demon?>What is your favorite game in the series and why is it Strange Journey?>What is your favorite alignment and why is it Chaos?>Did V live up to your expectations?>Hopes/Fears for SMT 6?>What demon would you fuck?8th year in a row I've made this threadhttps://arch.b4k.dev/v/search/text/My%20birthday%20may%20thread%20to%20celebrate/type/op/
My favorite alignment is dark[/spoiler) neutral
Happy belated birthday, dude. SMT a shit btw, Persona is better.
>>740269470Happy birthday, OP. Personally, I like Devil Survivor the most, even if it's a spinoff. I'm too weary of life right now to answer everything in detail but I like mothman.

>What is your favorite game in the series and why is it Strange Journey? But it's DDS2...
>>740269470Between Fenrir, Seth and Seraph. It is strange journey but Apocalypse is very close.Don't care about alignment much. I liked Chaos in Raidou 2 because fuck Akane's clan.V was okay. Just don't care about it's characters or world and its world isn't interesting like the Vortex World. Doesn't help how fujo it is.Hope 6 goes for a more post apocalyptic world like IV's Blasted Tokyo or MT2.Fear it will keep pandering to SMT3&5 fans.I want to be smothered by Sedna's giant breasts.Happy Birthday.

SMTV made me really like Slime. I never thought it was possible, but all they needed to do was make it desperate to be a mascot character and its appeal shot right up for me.
>>740269971Persona is ultimately incomplete without SMT laying the foundation.
>>740269470Happy late birthday, OP!I've seen your threads on the archives and I'm impressed you kept the tradition this long. My birthday was yesterday but i didn't make a thread to celebrate it like you didHow old are you now?Anyway my favorite demon is Jack Frost, and I only played the first SMT
>>740269470Huang Long has always been goated for my runsIV:A is the best because I can kill everyone and make it my world. In every game after IVA I repeatedly say "where's the masacare ending?".V was nice, I'm playing it right now.I want more cool combos and innate abilities. I fear they'll keep making it like Metaphor were OP enemies give themself a billion press turns instead of being actual fun fights.I'd fuck Anansi
I wonder if we'll get another SMT game where there are more generic humans to recruit again.
>>740279856The demons definitely have a lot of personality in V.
Emulating SMT4 using Azahar/Citra here. All's good except the graphical glitch in death animations. Turns out it's because I'm using Vulkan. Supposedly using OpenGL will fix it just fine, except now the emulator will just crash every time I run the game -- any game, actually, so it must be my GPU that doesn't play well with OpenGL. Yes it's AMD so jokes on me I guess.Any tips?
>>740282901It's kind of nice, but ultimately they take up space in the party which I'd rather have demons occupy. I'd say Apoc's way of handling humans as "party members" is the best they've done it, although the characters themselves are, well...
>>740283228Newest versions outright refused to work for me. 2125.0.1 on opengl fixed it for me.
>>740283454Is that the stable release? I updated to prerelease but still no dice. That's with Azahar. Unless you're using Citra? Haven't tried it since it's taken down, but I do remember back then it still has massive slowdown with OpenGL.
>>740278535>ParvatiBased. The pajeeta waifus in SMT are unmatched.
After many days of pondering, I think I finally have a workable argument as to why the Axiom and the Great Will are distinct entities that isn't just "they have a separate name," and it comes down to what choices the two entities allow in the games that let you interact with the Throne of Creation in the scenarios you are presented it. In fact, I think the entity looking over IV and IV:A being separate from the Will is an intentional choice as the plot of those games seems to be a microcosm of the greater plot occurring between III and V. If you would allow me to distill my autism onto your thread for the sake of an argument that occurred a week ago (heavy spoilers for the plot of IV:A and less so for III and V abound):
>>740283950>Axiom's purpose is to keep its reality perpetually running without going stagnant; this is most prominently shown in the two non-alignment endings where you march up to the Throne of Creation to depose/and or replace Mr. Clean, but can also be inferred in IV's White ending where Flynn's work is eventually undone by the next cycle of creation. Why the Axiom would care about the state of physical reality under the Gnostic-esque metaphysics of the setting isn't made readily apparent on its own, but it does make sense under the greater context of the Mandala Cycle governing the bulk of universes within the SMT sphere.>Kagutsuchi sheds additional light on the cycle in III by inferring the eventual end goal of the system is a world where all beings fall in line with God. Naturally, being a subset of YHVH, he interprets this as the usual Law-approved brainwashing, but the actual intent should be something closer to a Pleroma-meeting state of enlightenment, my main evidence for this coming from the dubiously-translated SMT NINE's Sophia endings that make the Gnosticism more explicit, though how literal it is has my head scratching given it's supposed to be an interlude between I and II? Digital Devil Saga ends with effectively the same message of self-actualized enlightenment in spite of a more Hindu influence, so they could be chalked up to as different flavors of the same basic enlightenment idea, but I'm sticking with calling it Plemora for simplicity's sake. >Ergo, the Axiom wants to reset the universe until it generates one where everyone reaches a state of Pleroma, which can only be done voluntarily (no Law-style mass brainwashing.) Like hunting for a shiny legendary in Pokémon. This lines up with the interpretation of God as an omnibenevolent being who would never willingly let a soul fall into Hell (here interpreted as a permanent state away from Pleroma with no possibility to join it.)
>>740269470>>What's your favorite demon?Hard one but I've gotten favorites over different entries. Cu Chulainn, Daisoujou, Jack Frost always stand out for some reason. I liked how Pazuzu was used in MT2, although I would call it a little underutilized. >>What is your favorite game in the series and why is it Strange Journey? It's SMT1, but I do love SJ. SMT1 may be a very easy game but it's everything but the difficulty that I love about that game so much. >>What is your favorite alignment and why is it Chaos?Neutral all day baybee. >>Did V live up to your expectations?Yeah, it was pretty fun. I think combat wise it expanded on press turn nicely. The music was really good. >>Hopes/Fears for SMT 6?Frankly I just want another first person dungeon crawler with MAG as a resource again. I'd also like some kind of party chat too with demons, even if that'd be a bitch to write for all of them in game. Like how DQ does it, where I can just talk to them in my party, maybe with more in depth conversations. After getting heavily into Wizardry I wish SMT had thin walls for its dungeons like Wizardry does. >>What demon would you fuck?Despite being a cocksucking faggot who likes male shortstacks, I don't want to fuck frost. Cait Sith (pronounced kit shee) however... Well, a cat is fine too!
>>740283989However, I think the Great Will's plan appears to be entirely different from what the Axiom, Kagutsuchi, or any of the other kalpa governors desire. My evidence comes from the available endings of V and V:A, and how they contrast with IV. Namely, the fact that all the true, non-looping (that is, not leading to another kalpa) endings revolve around trying to end the Mandala, with Kagutsuchi's canon destruction perhaps a prelude for the Will's desire to finally allow universes to live out their lifespans.>Lucifer, much like his reflection in IV, is ultimately a pawn of the Great Will's goals, as one would expect an individual attempting to rebel against an omnipotent, omniscient being to be. How and why he wants to rebel against the Will is effectively arbitrary, as his existence hinges on humans believing someone would be willing to rebel against God, effectively forcing a poor soul to play his role until humanity is convinced of otherwise (usually from a law ending: not desirable), or the system of reality quits forcing it into being.>The Mandala system works by reusing the vast majority of a universe's spiritual and physical matter and setting everything anew and different. This results in any departed souls getting infinite chances to achieve Plemora come next kalpa, but it also effectively strips them of their previous personality, preventing any soul from permanently living with the consequences of its actions. The "Tensei" part of SMT, is effectively an aberration for any belief system that values self-determination.>Thus the entire plot to end the cycle and enable true free will where souls can either achieve enlightenment or forever spurn it without worry of having their decisions overridden. The Great Will is God as a proponent of free choice, where at the end of days those who chose Him will get to live in His Paradise while those who do not will get to live forever without it, which if you believe Him would be a bunk deal.
>>740283812Nah latest azahar is like 2125.1 or something. There's an issue about it on the githib about which version might work.
>>740284025The curious thing to me about this though, is that though I think I can make an argument as to their separation, it occurred to me it's less clear if either of them are concretely meant to be The definitive God, given their mutually-contradictory goals. Perhaps, that's up for (you) to decide?Scattered observations:>Gnosticism is a heavy influence on SMT's metaphysics and there is syzygie symbolism abound in the numbered games with the True Goddess of IV:A and V's Goddess of Creation being the most obvious examples, yet SMT is NOT a copy paste of Gnostic philosophy. Otherwise, the God figures wouldn't be trying to recreate material reality constantly, whose status as a testing ground for souls is more in line with mainstream Abrahamic religion.>Manifestations of the idea of God can be roughly divided into three categories; demiurges, or demons made out of humanity's (and occasionally other demons', like the false YHVH of II's) observations or ids or whatever mechanism allows demons to form in a given game, throne-holders who sit upon the Throne of Creation or its equivalent to impose their will on creation that can be humans, demons, or occasionally demiurges directly (Most YHVHs, but also Maruduk and Akemi Nakajima), and universal intelligences like the Axiom and Great Will, who represent God as an underlying reason. Stuff like Kagutsuchi, Strange Journey Metatron, and the Titles of II are extensions of these roots.>The re-release of II has a mysterious voice conversing with Zayin in the Petrification Prison, detailed here https://youtu.be/8ykJwmE6IwM?t=565 (spoilers for SMT II!) If it is the Great Will, this would imply the Great Will is capable of direct intervention if deemed necessary while reaffirming a difference between YHVH's desire for worship with the Will's desire for mankind to chose whether or not to embrace it.
I only played SMT5V, but I enjoyed it very much. Have played Persona and Metaphor also.

I've only played Vengeance though not the original release.>Hopes/Fears for SMT 6?Hopes: More overt and Chaos-aligned Japanese ultranationalism, V was a return to form in this aspect, fuck Neutral.>What demon would you fuck?Lilith, Lilim and Succubus.

>Read manga once.>You're not allowed in God's kingdom of heaven anymore. Eternal Damnation awaits you.Why is Law alignment so retarded? There is no room for error, you make one minor mistake and you're out permanently.
>>740283950This is probably interesting to read but I'm replying just so this thread stays up and I can read your autism in the morning.
>>740284296Other way around: the Axiom is the source of all life, be it human, demon, animal. It is in essence an attempt at depicting the Ein Sof of the Kabbalah.

Should generic demons have more variations to them? Something like how Dx2 typically allows for multiple art depictions of demons to be recruited, but in a mainline game. Like pixies having multiple designs to chose from to make it clear they're species instead of any single specific individual, like the demons based off individuals.
>>740269787Dark spoiler...
daisoujouSMTVVyes it's chaosyes but the dungeons are absolute dogshit and disappointing, temple of eternity feels like it's literally unfinishedonly fear is that we get some shit dungeons again but otherwise "let them cook" as zooms sayEisheth, raw amazon position while she holds me down with her sassy office lady nailsand I hope ringo comes back in some shape or form in the future, she's too good to be stuck in SH2
>>740292620I actually really like the Laputa aesthetic of Temple of Eternity and the layout itself is good, the one way door puzzle is just straight up pointless since you can just punch through the enemies. If they wanted the option to fight your way through, they should make it so encounters in Temple spawn like 5+ waves of reinforcement, that would justify all the demons standing around and would make it highly risky since if any of those waves start with advantage they could wipe you out. It would also make it the prime endgame grindspot.
>>740293062There was probably some thought behind the layout that sounded better in some intern's head than how it was actually implementedI'm just mad because the open world is amazing but every single dungeon feels like it's stuck in 2003, especially now atlus proved they can do actual detailed dungeons with fagsona 5
VV's demons at times are hot as fuck, I'm amazed the game managed to release when it did without huge censorship.

Mainline is 4A (I love the story and Asahi). Wish it was a bit more consistent but it had some really high highs). SMT1 is probably my next one then SMT3. All SMT games are genuinely good. >What is your favorite alignment and why is it Chaos? Chaos is just pretty much "neutral" in a way. It doesn't necessarily have to be STRONK WILL INHERIT THE EARTH. I know that's a bit contradictory but true freedom is better than getting crammed in the asshole being forced to do whatever.>Did V live up to your expectations?Eh.... I only played IV back then so I was pretty open minded on what V is. After marathoning the series, it's probably the weakest mainline. Development trouble in the story that makes IV blush. >>740284058I feel like your observations about which game is more gnostic is ignoring how V is the most gnostic game in the series next to NINE. And it makes a point about YHVH (or whatever law god was on the throne) being a false god (demiuge) and the GW is the true god (Sophia even serves him).
SMT1 and 2 are really underrated though. I like SMT1 cosmic journey through shit and the post apocolyptic setting and everything slowly turning to shit was peak. The only thing I'm a bit meh about is the ending but otherwise, it's been solid the whole way through. Lucifer is fucking hilarious though, he's just like "WELL UHH YOURE NOT WITH US UHH GO TO THIS AREA YOURE GOING TO FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING HAHA" and it's a optional boss fight

>>740303529I was thinking they should just make the FES/Royal/Golden versions of their games like vengeance with an expansion pack DLC. The expansion gives you an option at the beginning to go down the new route, which leaves the old game intact so normalfags won't screech about their saves being incompatible. That way they get to avoid the problem of everyone waiting for the rerelease instead of just buying the base game and getting the DLC a year later and doing a se3cond run, while newfags can get a cheap base game + full price DLC bundle.

Have not played Vengeance>Hopes/Fears for SMT 6?Hope: New setting, even better quests and exploration to surpass SMTV.Fear: We get another cast like SMTIVA but without a good character like Gaston >What demon would you fuck?Abdiel, any of Lucifer's female disguises and Hecate (SMT 2).
Have you thanked them for saving SMT yet?
>>740292065Feels like a lot of modelling work for a small payoff. I'd prefer they spent that effort into making other demons.
>>740301589The way V handles gnostism is somewhat different to how the other games handle gnostic themes. Lucifer in V is meant to evoke himself as an interpretation of Sataniel, a rebellious angel who took God's Knowledge to allow humanity to liberate themselves from the system that keeps creating Him.But the God of Law being his target was entirely incidental, as the only reason the God of Law had that knowledge to begin with was from taking up the throne from a long line of holders partially detailed in the game itself; in Lucifer's mind, he's not merely rebelling against this cosmic equivalent of a mall santa, yet attempting to rebel against the Great Will who keeps forcing his role into being as well as the Throne of Creation. He's trying to upend Mandala and create a universe without God, not cognizant to the fact its cession is exactly what the Great Will wants. V:A confirms the Lucifer of III and V are one in the same.

>>740315336All gods had knowledge until YHVH in V separated them from it because he said "no god may come before me" another thing the demiurge said.
>>740316324And claiming the throne is what enabled him to do that. Whether the last throne holder was explicitly YHVH (particularly the implication he was the Canaanite god El literally nicking parts of other pantheons to make his angelic order) or Yaldabaoth is less relevant compared to the System the thrones represent.
>>740318341They tell you which gods are one the throne before him. And the throne did not give him knowledge. Everyone had it.
