Is Donkey Kong really Nintendo's first and longest running franchise? Didn't they make games before donkey Kong? What came before? And why hasn't Nintendo revived those older games and turned them into franchises?

their first video games were technically the lightguns for the magnavox odyssey but their first solo game was a shooting gallery light-gun game
none of the older stuff nintendo made in their toddling first years was really an IP instead of an existing video game clone, donkey kong in the first place came from a deal to make a licensed popeye game that fell through
